I could take up pages writing about the terrible experience my wife and I had at Aigialos, but I'll try to keep it as just a brief precautionary tale to anyone considering this over other options in Santorini.
The pictures of the rooms on the website were misleading... what we found were unclean, mosquito infested accommodations with just a decent view compared to the many other places on the caldera... and the promised welcome fruit basket was nowhere to be found.
The experience of trying to sleep was a nightmare... the area where the rooms are is very loud, and there is no insulation from the many sounds outside (passers by on the heavily traveled walkway, patrons at the nearby cafe/bar, even wind howling through the cracks in the window and door frames).
To top everything off, when concerns were brought to management, they couldn't have cared less, and were only really concerned with collecting the money for the room.
We did move on to another place in Santorini (to Astra suites just up the coat in Imerovigli) and had a much much better experience. I'll save those details for another post.
Save yourself the hassle... find another place. You'll regret it if you don't.

We read with interest your comments regarding your stay at Aigialos Hotel. Let us point out that your comments are concerning the same stay in the hotel as your wife's dated July 8, under the nickname "Kate H." so our reply is to both comments, which are actually about the one and same overnight stay.
A point-by-point review of comments follows.
At your first comment, about "misleading photos at the site" you give as argumentation for the said mislead the comments "unclean", "mosquito-infected" and with "just decent view". Taking aside the fact that Aigialos, being a luxury hotel, has a strict housemaid protocol of twice a day cleaning and, also, that in the Aegean caldera mosquitos, due to the climate and the breeze are a very rare site, one cannot help but wonder how the said arguments support the claim that the photos were misleading. We fail to see how your comments connect with the argument in the first place, as web photos depict decoration, premises, view, general location and hotel specifics and more qualitative aspects, such as architectural and aesthetic harmony, indoor and outdoor specifics, furniture and room styling etc.
In the one comment that indeed relates with the photos, the view, let us just pinpoint that Aigialos hotel was the front cover of the Annual Edition "Resorts and Great Hotels - The Connoiseur's Guide to the Word's Best" for the year 2006. View the link here: http://aigialos.gr/reviews/default.html. Sometimes, a picture is, indeed, a thousand words.
Regarding the area where Aigialos is located, thank you once again for giving us the opportunity to quote hundreds of independent Trip Advisor reviews which have repeatedly rated Aigialos as"calm" "serene" and "a heaven". Let us also quote statistics, which rate that on an average high-season day in Fira, Santorini, the "heavily traveled walkway" that you describe sees an average of 20-30 walkers-by a day, as opposed to the average of 1,000+ walkers-by strolling the main pedestrian street of Fira! The Authorities of the Municipality of Thera will be happy to ascertain this fact and give further details regarding the neighborhood of Aigialos hotel.
The wind is indeed blowing, gently or with more gusto depending on the day, at the Aegean and especially at the Caldera. It is actually the hotel's trademark, as every House is named after a God of Wind. It is this same climate of the Cycladic islands that millions of tourists come to experience every year, fresh, invigorating, cool even at the hottest day.
Just two more facts:
Aigialos Hotel has been honored not just once, but repeatedly, with certificates of excellence throughout its operation, including the Trip Advisor 2013 Certificate of Excellence Winner, Fodor's Choice from 2000 onwards until today , "Resorts and Great Hotels Connoiseurs Choice 2006", as well as Trip Advisors Traveler's Choice in Greece, in the categories "Luxury Hotel"and "Small Hotel". These independent, international rankings are clearly demonstrating the commitment of Aigialos to customer satisfaction and service excellence and are the result of a very strict evaluation of many parameters, such as welcoming policy, front office helpfulness, politeness, professionalism, management, consistency in high-quality service and more.
Finally, one cannot help but remind that Aigialos hotel's understated luxury and charm is the result of combining the unique Santorini architectural heritage with the brilliant restoration, in 1996, of the acclaimed architect Michalis Fotiadis, the same architect who co-designed the new Acropolis Museum in Athens.
As stated in our previous replies, it is a fact in the hotel industry that different travelers seek different types of accommodation, depending on their profile, taste and experience. However, in all different niches, excellence is achieved through consistent scoring in areas such as premises, hospitality, cleanliness, location, gastronomy etc.
Aigialos' top ranking by visitors and independent international rating authorities alike, is the best proof of this excellence.
