“Best place to stay in Santorini!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2013

In the first week of October 13, my wife and I had the opportunity to spend 4 nights at Villa Renos. In short, it was simply stunning and was the highlight of our 4 week Europe experience. Villa Renos is perfectly positioned in Fira, central to everything that is important and has the THE BEST view of the caldera. The most impressive feature is the unique “family” service. This wonderful family, with host Vasilis, makes everything so easy from arrival to departure. In particular, the home made breakfasts are sensational with every day being a fantastic surprise….not your usual hotel breakfast!!

If you want to enjoy Santorini and have a unique experience, please stay at Villa Renos…you will not be disappointed. Ideal for groups or couples with over 3 levels, all with stunning views.

Room Tip: All rooms have exceptional views!

My wife and i spent two heavenly nights at Villa Renos 30 October to 1 November. Last guests of the season as they shut down until next May and carry out some renovations (not that the place really needs any). We had our choice of a few different room options and went with Room 1 - next level down from the lobby and breakfast area. The room was larger, but slightly smaller balcony compared to other choices, but latter was still plenty big enough for our needs (basically, a place to drink wine in the evening). King bed was quite comfortable and there was actually a third bed in the room. Bathroom was extremely large by European standards. Everything in the room was tastefully done, with refrigerator (stocked with various refreshments for purchase). Another nice thing was plenty of power outlets for charging phones, cameras, iPad - somewhere rare in some European hotels. Heated blankets were also a nice touch, though we didn't need them as the weather was surprisingly warm (high 70s).

Wonderful French doors opening to the balcony and the gorgeous caldera view, apparently available from all 11 rooms of the hotel. We really had a spectacular view, with churches near and far, and the donkey trail not too far below us. Location is about as good as it gets for caldera and sunset view from Fira, though sunset view was a bit disappointing both nights due to haze in the West (kind of hoped for sun setting directly into the sea). Also great location for those with mobility issues who still want caldera views. This is pretty much the closest hotel to the center of Fira, with Greek church and bus station just short minutes away. Steps up to the top of the rim were slightly tiring, but not near as bad as the numerous hotels further below Villa Renos.

Cannot say enough good things about Vassilis, Petros and Zina. Vassilis was extremely helpful with ideas and setting up places to shop and eat, along with setting up a rental car for a day, etc. I was a bit embarrassed by my initial American cynicism that everybody is always looking for a kickback - I really think the people of Santorini do look out for each other, but they want to make sure guests all have the best experience possible and in the end I was quite convinced they look out for each other while being quite objective.

Of course, we have to join others in touting the daily breakfasts, which really covered both breakfast and lunch. Each day started with a superb combination of Greek yogurt topped with honey, walnuts and mixed fruit - we certainly should have stopped there, but not possible. As others noted, all fresh ingredients direct from Zina's garden and wonderful variety, along with good conversation with our hosts.

Last but not least, many thanks to a very nice departure gift from Vassilis - he and his parents are truly a class act (I pointed out to Vassilis that that was exactly how Rick Steves had described them in his Greece guidebook).

Room Tip: Better sunset views at the top, but largest rooms appear to be toward the bottom (and more steps dow...

Vasilis and his father were wonderful hosts at Villa Renos, making us feel very welcome. We wished we could have stayed longer. Ah, those breakfasts - superb! Never the same menu, always a delightful surprise, and all prepared with fresh local ingredients. The hotel is stylishly furnished with a clever mixture of objets d'art and prints/artworks, and cleverly designed so that each (comfortable) room has a superb view of the caldera. It was our second visit to Santorini, and if there's to be a third, we would definitely seek to stay at Villa Renos.

We have just spent a most relaxing 5 days at the Villa Renos where the view and the breakfasts were second to none. Not only did breakfast always include a dessert, but we were never served the same cooked breakfast twice. This wonderful selection of home made and freshly prepared Greek cuisine should satisfy any gourmet. Operated by the very friendly and obliging Matekas family, this hotel provided an ideally located venue for just relaxing and/or exploring Santorini and all it has to offer. Waking to magnificent views of the caldera or tasting the local wine as we watched the sun set, our only regret was that we had not planned to stay in this idyllic setting for a longer period of time.

Room Tip: All rooms have wonderful views and a sunny terrace but there is no lift so one needs to be prepared...

My boyfriend and I finshed a 7 week long European adventure at Villa Renos in Santorini during August 2013. It was everything that we needed, and more than we expected! The service from each staff member was outstanding. Petros ensured that we did not leave Santorini dissapointed by helping us plan our activities for the week. The view from the room was incredible and we watched the sun set each night from the pool with a few drinks in hand. Breakfast was an amazing feast and we found ourselves wondering each night what delights we would be tasting the following morning! We have ben recomending Villa Renos to anyone and everyone! And we cant wait to go back for another perfect break!

Room Tip: We had a room on the same level as the pool, it felt like a private pool as it's entrance was st...

Following a busy tour through Athens and the Peloponnese, we landed on the idyllic island of Santorini and our stay at the Villa Renos Hotel. Our hosts, Petros, Zina, and Vasilis were as accommodating and thoughtful as can be imagined. This is a family-run affair that offers unparalleled views of the caldera, breakfasts fit for any 5-Star restaurant, and comfortable rooms with a private deck hanging out over a view you can't stop appreciating. We enjoyed 3 wonderful days exploring the towns and beaches, we savored the restaurants, the shops, and the courteous people, but we won't soon forget this absolute nugget of a hotel. It's a bit out of the way from our home in Seattle, but it begs a return!

Room Tip: Our room directly below the breakfast room was very quiet and offered the privacy of a corner locati...

We have just spent 3 days at villa renos. What can I say? I got my daily exeracise going up and down the stairs but that is the norm in this hillside area. We were collected and redeposited at the airport....our luggage was carried to our room....the view from our own personal terrace were spectacular and we could sit enjoy some wine, cheese, biscuits and watch the passenger liners arrive, depart and unload their passengers for their shore excursions. The breakfasts served were traditional with freshly squeezed orange juice to start and the most dishes made using fruit and vegetables grown themselves. Cereals, yoghurts and eggs etc were offered if you chose.
Thr room had mini fridge, safe, comfy bed, bath/shower with good water flow. The rooms were made up promptly each day.
They organized a day cruise for us which was really special..distinct from the ones
offered at the tour agencies.
Up the steps and you are in town, with the many and varied shops.
I can't say enough about the proprietors, they were friendly, accommodating and would do anything to make your stay memorable.
Can't wait to come back and will definitely recommend to anyone travelling over that way.
