“Breathtaking Views”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2013

This Hotel is perfect for spending a couple of nights in bustling Fira. We were staying in Perissa for 2 weeks and decided to have a couple of nights in Fira but wanted something a bit special. I wouldn't say it was cheap but you get what you pay for. We had the top suite with amazing views, the apt was a cave room and very quirky . Outside we had settees and 2 sun loungers . We bought a bottle of fizz from the supermarket and watched the amazing sunset. We would definitly recommend this Hotel.

We stayed on the top apartment. The view was wonderful and the service was great. Good location and with just a few steps to climb. Dimitris and Inna were very good host and accommodating. Will certainly book with them again when we go back.

Room Tip: Top room has the best view and terrace. Have not stayed in any of their other rooms.

Couldn't really fault anything about our 5 night stay at Antithesis. Yes, the cave rooms take a little getting used to and yes, it is a pretty darn exhausting climb up and down the stairs to enter or leave the hotel - but we had anticipated this and it didn't detract from our experience here at all. This is a really small hotel run by a husband and wife, and the hosts were so lovely! From the moment they picked us up from the port they were so friendly and welcoming, couldn't have asked for better hospitality on their part. They upgraded our room free of charge as well. The wife was very bubbly and eager to help (can't remember her name but I think from other reviews here it was Inna?), and straight away showed us a map of Santorini explaining all of the best places to see and things to do. The view over the ocean from the very large balcony of our room was absolutely breathtaking. The room itself had its quirks - low curved ceilings in parts which made it kinda awkward moving around, and you had to wait 20 minutes or so for the hot water to heat up when you wanted a shower, which then didn't last very long... but oh well. Regardless, it was overall very cosy, clean and comfortable. Wifi, air con and kitchenette facilities all perfect. We visited in off season (late January) and the island was almost a ghost town, as expected. This had its downside in that all of the shops and cafes were closed save for three or four little places in Fira town centre which we came across... but nevertheless, we thoroughly enjoyed the peace and privacy. We could sit on our balcony and appreciate the sunset in complete and utter silence - so magical!

Before booking, be aware that this hotel, like the majority of the hotels in Fira (Thira), Santorini, is built vertically on the cliffs. It is not wheelchair friendly and is totally unsuitable for anyone who is physically unable to climb steep stairs. From where a car must be left, you descend 79 (mostly) steep steps to the room we occupied and another down 16 or so to the reception area – with no guard rails. Word of warning: look around you, even take a photo of the spot from which you leave the top to go down. There are many staircases, all of which look similar. We went up and down twice before discovering the right route!

The description on their website is accurate although the term “modern comforts” needs to be understood to mean that yes, you can cook your own food, refrigerate it, turn on the air conditioner and probably the TV (we did not try – who comes to Santorini to watch tv?) but it is by southern European, not by North American standards. The bed is quite firm, as the mattress is on a wooden base. What a great spot for breakfast! As to the breakfast itself, – it is adequate, brought to you on a tray, and you don’t have to climb any stairs for it except to go to reception to say you are ready.

Most challenging was the bathroom, which in our unit is at the back of the "cave" and quite a tight fit. As in most places in Greece, paper does not go down the toilet. On the bright side, since the entire room doubles as a shower, the handheld shower can be used as a bidet! I recommend lifting both toilet lids during showering. Plenty of hot water!

While we were not there for the sunset, the view is spectacular. It is centrally located, just below the Atlantis hotel complex and the biggest church in the center of town. Near the central bus depot from which buses go in all directions.

Demitrios, our host, picked us up from the ferry and explained what we were seeing. He is an informative, entertaining, and attentive host. The suggestions he made for dining and a boat tour were absolutely the best!

If you are fit, looking for a place to lay your head, a stunning view and a central location during your stay in Fira, this is your spot.

Room Tip: All rooms face the caldera and back into the cliffside.

Only stayed 2 nights and I wish we would have just sat on the deck for half of that. I liken it to Haleakala crater with water, cruise ships and villages hanging from the cauldrera's edge. The challenges were parking although we managed to find a spot both nights(very small car) and luggage down the stairs to the hotel. Oh finding it was somewhat achallege too. Once settled in we enjoyed the location immensely as it was close to all the business in Fira.

this B&B only has a few rooms but the location is fantastic in the centre of Fira but in a reasonably calm area, next to an old church (closed). Great service from the staff, especially Dimitri. We got the top apartment, with a small extra price, for a couple of nights and it was great!
