“Dishonest management - avoid!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2013

Although I booked a room at Villa Gianna, when we checked in, we were actually placed across the street in a hotel, Sea of Aegean, which is supposedly by the same owner. Perhaps the rooms in Villa Gianna are better, but our room had a terrible mattress, no WiFi, a toilet that ran constantly, a shower without any wall mounting, and, on the first day, not even electricity. The man at the front desk was rude, unhelpful, and could not care less about our comfort and experience. When I requested to move to the main hotel, he said there were no rooms available and declined to provide any compensation, even though the hotel we were placed in has significantly cheaper room rates. In addition, breakfast was not good (Tang juice, bread, ham and cheese, and dry cake), the reception at Sea of Aegean was always empty, leaving notes directing guests to their rooms on checkin, and the location was not great, a 15 minute walk along a fairly dark, congested street to Fira. I will absolutely never return. Stay away!!

At first we were surprised on arriving as we were expecting four star quality as Hotels.com had said who we booked through. It’s not a four star hotel, but it is a fantastically cheap, very clean hotel. The room was cleaned spotlessly each day and new towels given - toiletries aren't provided. There is A/C -which you will need - a large fridge, TV and space for your clothes. Bed and the breakfast were OK. Our shower was a freestanding space in the corner of the bathroom - no bathtub and makes your bathroom into a bit of a wetroom. This was fine as it was so hot it dried out so quickly. Our room was on the ground floor, I think the rooms are all different and the nicer ones on the top floor. Location is great, a 15 minute walk in heat into Fira through lovely alleyways. Quiet location, no masses of tourists outside your window - just the donkeys going past every morning and evening which was lovely. The swimming pool is lovely, used it every day. In late afternoon it is in shade though from the building. I didn't see a tennis court and a playground on site as Hotel.com says. The people who run this hotel were extremely friendly and kind. They certainly went out of their way to ensure we enjoyed out time in Santorini. I would advise you to go through their website and ask if they could pick you up from the airport. We were dropped off ten minutes away by a taxi driver- don’t know if he thought he dropped us off in the right place or wanted to go back for another booking. If you are on a budget like we were, then I would certainly recommend - we had a great time here once we realised it wasn't 4 star and that we hadn’t paid 4 star prices!

Room Tip: Book directly with the owners and ask for a pick up from the airport. Ask for the upstairs rooms if...

Hotel was clean, bathroom was big, great big tiled shower, loved it, bed was a tad hard as were the pillows. Great outlook, good pool. The young man at the desk didn't say much but he was polite, don't think he spoke a lot of English. Our balcony faced the little street where they took the donkeys morning and night, got some great pictures. Yes, it was hilly but walking to the main shopping area was easy and close, we walked around a lot, good exercise! We hired a car and drove around most of the island, saw some great towns and villages.

Enjoyed our stay at the hotel and would recommend.

villa was average. The location was pretty good for the money. The staff was nice but did not speak great English. It was quite and breakfast was ok. The tv did not work in our room but who cares you don't need one..

A tip when you get to the main bus station walk down the hill make a left , walk ten minutes and then you will see a steep drive way going down on the right and you make a right on the bottom and it will be to your left.

First of all, the front desk guy has a very bad attitude. He is no help and just don't do what he just told you he did. No proper welcoming. Mattress are very uncomfortable. Location is not so great. Wherever you want to go, you must climb lot of slopes. I had to rent a quad. Rooms are clean, hotel looks not very old.

I booked this hotel for my younger sister and her boyfriend as our family were visiting Santorini and my Sisters budget did not stretch to a Caldera view hotel.

I came across Gianna Villa on the internet, and thought that it looked OK and the price was right for my Sisters budget.

The hotel owner collected my Sister and her Boyfriend from the hotel, free of charge.

I visited the hotel numerous times during our visit to see my sister, and the hotel owner was always very friendly. The pool area of the hotel is lovely - very clean. In fact the whole hotel was very clean - there was always someone there cleaning the communal areas.

My sister told me that she thoroughly enjoyed her stay - and for the price she paid it was an absoloute bargain!

Don't be mislead by the pictures! The bedroom we had was very small, uncomfortable and view on the parking;
Breakfast was hardly acceptable with no interest and the worst coffee I had since I travel in Greece (1976)!
Staff was unwelcoming, nobody just said us good morning the first morning! Hardly a few words of English spoken and no attempt to help; the pool is un inviting as well;
Only good point is that they had accepted a booking on the phone with very late arrival (1 am) and had arranged to leave light and door open for us. We were so upset we left Santorini altogether the same day! Do not commit the same mistake as us avoid Gianna Villa, and even avoid Santorini!
