“Private Villa - Stunning”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 6, 2012

Best value accommodation in Oia. Comfortable, clean and spacious apartment, and reasonably well equipped self contained kitchen.
But the clincher is the view. Stunning! Spent most of our time sitting on the small terrace on the edge of the caldera, sipping the local white wine, Assyrtiko. It doesn't get much better.
Spiros is a generous and caring host. He and his family run the restaurant located at the main hotel on the road. Great eating and good value here. Best mousaka ever according to my wife. The whole family make you feel welcome and appreciated.
No wifi in the apartment but available at the hotel.
Keep a lookout across the bay for cruise ships. If there, the village of Oia will be packed with tour groups. When there are no boats around, Oia is a lovely charming village, well equipped with bars and restaurants and an easy walk from the apartment.
Sea food restaurants at nearby Ammoudi are great, if a little more expensive.
A stay in the Private Villas is highly recommended.

We took the private villa looking into the caldera. I was blown away by the famous Oia view, which was postcard- perfect. This doesnt look directly into the sunset, would recommend walking to the central Oia area which is just five minutes walk away to see the sunset.

The room was basic, tho a little old, and is very spacious, and does provide basic toiletries. If you want, you could do some cooking. There was also a outdoor deck area so you could sit and have your coffee while taking in the view. (i wish i had the chance to do that but it was unexpectedly cold during the time I was there)

Spiros was very friendly, personable, helpful- he helped us carry our two huge luggages down the many steps to the villa. He is at the restaurant for most part of the day if you need help. If not, his parents are around. Tho they do not speak English, they do their best to help. I love that it is family run, very personable. Spiros' mom was so sweet, she gave us a hug when we left, and that is something I wlll remember dearly.

Free wifi is available at the restaurant/ lobby and not in the villa itself. There is a provision shop near the villa, opposite the hotel restaurant. The bus that goes to Fira stops directly in front of the hotel.

Overall, for the price, it is as good as it gets.

Rooms are basic - no toiletries provided so make sure you bring your own.
Shower in my room was very small and the shower curtain stuck to you as you showered.
Air-conditioned rooms which is great in summer as it does get hot and I assume that all rooms had balconies which is always nice.
Beds weren't the most comfortable but didn't expect them to be for the price.

Pool was a nice temperature and comfortable to sit around - I do think they could make it more inviting by providing pool side service or some sort of drink availability.

Only problem I found was that the cleaners start VERY early in the morning so when you are on holidays you don't want people knocking on your door at 8am. They slam doors VERY loudly each morning which is most annoying.

Family run hotel which is nice - very polite and helpful. Food in the restaurant is quite nice too.

It is located down the road from Oia which isn't ideal as you'll need to walk on the side of the road to get back to the hotel at night - that can be dangerous but then again, it really isn't that far. There's a bus stop across from the hotel which is handy and parking is provided if need be.

My husband and I shared a private villa with another couple we were traveling with for one night and stayed in one of the apartments the second night. Even though it was a bit of a pain to move our stuff, the private villa was totally worth it. Amazing views. Beautiful terrace to have a cup of coffee in the morning and sit back and relax. The villa had one completely separate bedroom and one that was separated by a curtain. One bathroom to share – for 2 couples was a bit much. Would work great for a family of 4. Tub was a nice size although, in both the villa and the apartment, the shower head was only hand held and couldn't be attached to the wall. very weird. The apartment shower was tiny and I kept on hitting the shower curtain. Views of the caldera from the private villa and views of the back side of the island from the apartment. Both were air conditioned. Nice walk to get to the main shops and many restaurants of Oia. Wonderful place to stay.

Room Tip: Go for the private villas. Amazing experience.

My husband and I stayed at the Anemomilos hotel for 8 nights in Sept 2011. The photos on the website don't do it justice. We were greeted by Stelios, who gave us a choice of 2 rooms to choose from. Both had pool and oustanding sea views from a lovely balcony. We did not overlook the Caldera, but it was a nice change to see the other side, as we saw the Caldera views on a daily basis when travelling around.

The room was spotless and we received clean sheets and towels every day. We booked ona room basis only, however a few times we ate in the restaurant for breakfast and evening meals and it was just lovely, and very well priced.

The pool and pool area was kept spotless and we had daily visits from a lovely cat and watched the little birds bathing at the edge of the pool. I am not sure if it would be busier during the other summer months, but most days we had the pool to ourselves, and sometimes there were other guests, but no more than 6 all at the same time, so it felt like a private pool.
There were plenty of sun loungers on a daily basis. There is a well stocked shop oppopsite the hotel and restaurant, and also a bus stop. The village of Oia is absolutely stunning. We spent many days and evenings walking along the quaint streets, stunned at each view and photo opportunity around each corner. The sunset by the castle is a must- very emotional when everyone strats clapping as the sun disappears on the horizon.

i would recommend this hotel, this village and this Greek Island to anyone, it was just perfect. Thank you Stelios and his lovely Mother for making our holiday perfect. We hope to see you again one day.
Melanie

Room Tip: We had a non caldera view which was equally as beautiful, and also a pool view, from the second floo...

The hotel is at the beginning of the village only a short walk from the pedestrian zone of Oia although busy traffic makes the walk perilous at times. We had a sea view room with balcony. We sat there in the evenings and watched the much hyped Aegean sunset. The pool was a plus considering how far the hotel was from the sea. Shampoo, soap and shower gel were provided. Also towels and pool towels. Rooms had A/C and a small fridge. Hotel had a good wi-fi internet coverage. Continental breakfast was of limited choice. Same ham and cheese every day, toasted bread, cereals, cake and jam. There's a grocery shop just across the road from the hotel where we went to buy drinks whilst relaxing by the pool. Overall a pleasant stay.

My teenage daughter, her best friend and I stayed at Anemomilos Hotel for 8 days in June 2011 as part of a Volcano Discovery natural history tour. We absolutely loved it, and never again found a better, more luxurious and more friendly hotel in our month-long travels through Turkey, Greece and Italy. Anemomilos (Windmill) Hotel is the place for you if you want a special, authentic family-run establishment next to the caldera with beautiful views, an immaculate and refreshing swimming pool (very popular with kids), friendly owners and staff, comfortable rooms, attractive and welcoming restaurant and delicious meals. You could not do better in Santorini and will be very glad you stayed here and met Spiros Kokkalis, his mother Margarita and their family - lovely people.
