“Beautiful Stunning Relaxing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 4, 2013

Aris Caves is a beautiful and stunning place to stay. What can be better then getting up in a morning to the sight of the blue calm Caldera. Each day we would wake up and have our breakfast on the private terrace. It is hard to describe how peaceful and serene the place was. I like my coffee in the morning and to drink it with such a fantastic view was just brilliant. The rooms are down some steps from the car parking area but most people would be able to manage going up and down them. You might be out of breath on the way up but Oia's setting and views are worth all the effort. We are both 60 years old, maybe not that old but we had no real problems going up and down the steps, just take it easy, you are on holiday, there's no rush.
What we would like to say is that Christa and the other staff really made the holiday for us. Christa suggested various options for trips and meals out and we took up some of the recommendations she gave us. We took a sunset catamaran excursion, including swimming and a meal, a Santorini day sightseeing and Christa gave us some options for meals out. At no point did we feel pressured into anything. Every thing we did was excellent and we still had time to explore the quaint narrow streets of Oia and the lovely free public pool which was very quiet and once again the views were stunning. As for the sunsets, there are many places to see them, the pool being one of them but you can just walk to various points to see it. All in all this was one of the best holidays we have been on and we would recomend Aris Caves to anyone. Santorini and Aris Caves are a place we would visit again and once again Christa was helpful, informative and friendly and warm. Hope to meet you again Christa.

It was a unique experience to stay in a cave suite, like nothing we could have imagined. It was very open and roomy with high ceilings yet cozy at the same time. Christa and staff were very attentive, ready to offer as much assistance as we needed, at a moments notice. The transfers and activities that she recommended were top notch. My only suggestion is to wear supportive shoes to walk up and down the stairs that lead to the suites if you are at retirement age like me.

Santorini had always been a far away dream until we finally decided to brave the long haul flight from Singapore to finally see it for ourselves in early June of 2013.

Santorini was to be our third stop after Athens and Mykonos and it was indeed breathtaking.

What an interesting place Aris Caves is. So quaint and homely. Nothing like a hotel. It's more like being a guest at Christa's house. A lovely and warming experience, especially since we came with our 6 year old who invited herself into Christa's apartment at every opportunity and fed her 6 cats and dog Aspa every 5 minutes.

Christa is a very hands on owner. She helped us with everything from hiring our car, getting our luggage ported up and down the steps to giving us a detailed rundown of the best restaurants, beaches, day trips etc. We took her advice. Everything went smoothly and we had a great time.

We stayed in Cave 3(?) Fournos (oven). Maybe it used to be the communal kitchen in the cluster of caves in the old days. Now transformed, it is a spacious mini apartment with a queen size bed on the mezzanine level and a cosy sunken bedroom with two single beds in a recess to the ground floor below. There is quite a large living/dining area and separate kitchenette for light cooking should the mood arise. The bathroom is brightly lit with a huge cavelike shower that can fit 3 people.

There is a small private outdoor terrace where you can take in the magnificent view of the Caldera.

The view of the sunset is blocked by a jutting cliff on the right side so you will need to walk up to town to see it (2 mins up the stairs).

There's a steep flight of stairs to take going down to the caves or up to town that affords lovely views. Do be careful at night.

Whilst definitely not a luxury property, it does have a cosy home-like feel. There are books and personal decorative touches throughout. Don't expect a huge basket of toiletries, just bring your own or buy them in town if you are fussy.

There is no tv or phone but Christa has both if you are desperate. Wi-fi is free and connection is good.

If you are coming from a 5 star resort on Mykonos, the caves are much different and may take a day or two to settle in to but once you do, you'll feel you could stay the whole summer and immerse yourself into village life.

Santorini is not really a place for young children but Aris Caves was ideal because of Christa's hospitality and all the pets.

We drove around Santorini a fair bit. It's not really nice in most parts. Quite a few factories and industrial areas actually. Oia is really the nicest part.

A very unique and homely experience away from the busy town area. We'd definitely stay there again.

Travel can be an extraordinary experience but sometimes stressful when landing in a new place and wanting to experience all that it has to offer in a relatively short time. Aris Caves is not only a delightful and comfortable accommodation but it's owner (Christa) and staff will ensure that you have a full and satisfying Island vacation. Christa expertly guided us to wonderful restaurants, side excursions and places to visit on our own. The coterie of "caves" and passageways are spotlessly and beautifully maintained overlooking breathtaking vistas. She assisted us with detailed travel arrangements and more. We would not hesitate in recommending Aris Caves to any traveler wanting a uniquely divine experience in a superbly welcoming atmosphere.

From the time we arrived to the time that we left we spent magic moments at Aris Caves, due to its gorgeous setting, beautifully decorated rooms and terraces - and mostly because Christa was so incredibly helpful in every respect - in fact, we became friends! The place is magic, very unique and very special indeed! We would love to go back one day even though it is a long journey for us from South Africa where we are living. Thank you Christa and Aris, we hope to see you again! Thanks for the wonderful memories and times we spent together!

Looking back on Santorini, we are just overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity shown us by Christa at Aris Caves. From helping us retrieve our lost luggage when we arrived (what an ordeal for us to have done ourselves), to booking and arranging tours, to taking charge with the ferry cancellation and finding us a place to stay...we would have been beside ourselves without her help...she could not do enough for us. What a stay we had thanks to Christa. She is truly someone special!

Folia was a perfect room for us. Aspa (the marvelous dog) would come down to greet us each morning as we relaxed with our coffee taking in the pristine view of the caldera. The caretakers, Maria and Theodorous kept the rooms spotless and grounds immaculately groomed.

They say...it's always good to get home...but as you can imagine, our hearts are longing for a return to Santorini and our dear friends, Christa, Aris, and Aspa.
Thanks you so much for making our dream of Greece more than we ever expected!!

The previous reviews say everything and echo my sentiments about Aris Caves and Christa perfectly.

My husband and I have just spent six days there and it was a dream come true, in all aspects.

I felt connected to Christa even before our arrival as we connected through Facebook and we were in touch throughout via email, fine tuning our travel details. Upon arrival, therefore, we didn't feel like strangers, to the contrary it was like visiting family. Christa's pets were a bonus as we are pet lovers and, together with her potted plants, it really felt like home.

The amount of steps needed to go up to street level concerned me a little before my arrival but I needn't have worried, they weren't a problem at all and it was good to be away from the noise and hustle and bustle of the town. Aris Caves' location is perfect as it is private and quiet but just a few steps up the hill and you're in the middle of the business/shopping district - incredible. It felt as if you were far, far away from civilization when, in actual fact, it's only a short walk away!!

Staff were very helpful and friendly without being obtrusive.

Christa was GREAT! She helped us with airport transfers, tours, cruises, places to eat and lots more. She was unbiased with her recommendations and left the final choice up to us.Her advice and tips was invaluable and spot-on - helped make our stay more enjoyable. Christa lives on site but she's discreet and gives her visitors total privacy and respect. It was comforting to know that she was there if we needed assistance. All visitors get a welcome talk from Christa and are given a blue folder with full of information which was very handy.

The accommodation was ultra clean; traditional and had everything one could need. We loved the coffee percolator in the kitchen :) Each cave has its own private balcony (there is also a communal one) with spectacular views of the caldera and the gorgeous blue sea.

I'd like to keep singing the praises of Aris Caves and Christa but I should stop lol. The time we had at Aris Caves will always stay with us and, without a doubt, will return. When travelling I've found that it's not only the places you visit that stay in your memory - it's the people and you Christa do just that. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us.
