Aris Caves was the perfect choice of accomodation in Oia. Oia is definately the best place to stay in Santorini. Aris caves was like staying in our own little carved out piece of the island. We stayed in the Gonia room, it was private and the common balcony area for the guests is amazing. We had our dinner and wine overlooking the Caldera. The room was simply stunning, clean, tidy, and very romantic. I would definately reccomend staying in this traditional style of housing, as if you stayed in a regular hotel, it would be a lot less authentic. Christa the owner was very helpful and accomodating. The place was easy to find and in short distance to many eateries and bars, and may I an an idylic sunset that took my breath away. Thank you again Christa for having such a great place of accomodation.

When I began my internet search for a place to stay in Oia, I came across Aris Caves first--and instantly fell in love! I looked no further, simple as that. We spent 5 wonderful, romantic, relaxing days there in early October and could not have been happier. Thank you to our most thoughtful hostess, Christa, who made sure we had all the information and help we could ever need. The cave rooms are so interesting and comfortable, close to the pedestrian streets but secluded and away from the cruisers who mob the town during the middle of the day. My husband went totally native on me, traded in his coat and tie for a loose, white linen shirt and sandals, lived on Greek salads, spanakopita, and Santorini white wine. A month later, back home in Seattle, we are still dreaming of Oia, and have recommended Aris Caves at least a dozen times already.

We stayed at Aris Caves for 5 nights at the very end of the tourist season and couldn't have been happier. We were in Folia, which is the most private of the cave rooms. Since we were the last guests of the season we had a chance to look in all of the rooms. While any of them would be very pleasant, we were glad we had Folia, with its private veranda and windows looking out on the sea. Christa, the owner, was extraordinarily helpful, even before we arrived. She arranged transportation to and from the ferry, gave recommendations on local restaurants and sites to see on Santorini, and made the arrangements for us to rent a car one day for a self-guided tour of the island. She was friendly and helpful every day.

Be advised that from the main street to the rooms is a descent of about 100 stairs. A porter will carry your bags up and down (thank you!), but you'll have to get yourself up and down each day. This was not an issue for us, but it is something to be aware of. It's worth it, though, as the views from Aris Caves are spectacular, and the homey atmosphere made our stay a real treat. All rooms have a small kitchenette, so you can bring food from the supermarket or the bakery and prepare breakfast or other meals. We were welcomed with cake, milk, and a bottle of wine.

Judging by the reviews on Trip Advisor, there are plenty of good places to stay in Oia. If we are coming back, though (and I hope we will), we will be on the phone with Christa again to book a place at Aris Caves.

NOTE: The temperatures on Santorini in late October were perfect. We had some wind, but we didn't even mind that because the temperatures were so mild. It was a great time of year to visit because of the nice weather and the relatively small number of tourists.

We stayed at Aris caves in August and loved it. Christa is an amazing host and goes out of her way to help you get the most out of your stay in Santorini with her excellent local knowledge. The cave we stayed in was Folia and it was just lovely. The terrace had uninterrupted views of the Caldera and the rest of the bay - beautiful. The cave itself was spotlessly clean and well maintained with lots of character and comfort. We didn't even mind the 120+steps which were made even more bearable as there is a porter to carry your cases - thank you! Aris caves is very well positioned in Oia and we can't recommend it enough. You can't see the sunset from the caves but if you have a car go to the beach 5 minutes away (passing everyone coming into Oia to see the sunset..) and watch it there....on your own!!! Perfect! Alternatively you can go with the rest of the world and squash up with them on the street....I know which we found most romantic!!
