“Fantastic service and unbeatable views”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2014

We traveled for the past 2 weeks in Greece and Santorini was by far the most beautiful relaxing and amazing experience.
Our hotel was recommended by a friend who stayed at Aspaki, a real gem located perfectly in the middle of the Oia where town splits in two. Right in that edge Aspaki opens to an amazing panoramic view of full caldera and sea views.

Our exclusive suite was very spacious with 1 bedroom, one large and tastefully decorated living area, 2 bathrooms and the best balcony you could picture.
Everything we dreamt about and more....that was our experience at Aspaki.
Extremely clean, attentive staff, yummy breakfast and amazing cocktail selections. Room service was limited, but overall it exceeded all our expectations.
Many thanks to Daniele, the excellent cleaning team and the adorable French chef.
We would return

We just finished our stay at Oia Castles and generally had a good time.

The hotel charges what you would pay for a 5-star facility but it is not quite what you get. You need to keep in mind that you are paying for getting to stay on the side of Oia that has a direct-view of the sunset. While everyone else lines up outside - you get to sit on your own patio and look out at the water. That being said - it would be nice if the inside of the suites were "5-star" quality as well.

Also - most of the reviewers can only speak to the room they stayed in - since this is a set of boutique suites - and each room and view are different. We stayed in the Olympic Deluxe Villa (2 BR, 1.5 bath suite).

The good:
1. INCREDIBLE view
2. Very friendly and mostly attentive service
3. The room is clean
4. Promptly served breakfast (but limited menu)

The bad (or needs improvement):
1. The room itself (including bedding and bathroom) is only 3.5 stars and the style is unique to say the least. The bathroom is more run down.
2. The room is down 50 steep and sloped steps - which you have to climb every time you want to go into the city.
3. The room is right by the main path down to the dock. Donkeys go up and down it many times a day. The path is often strewn with donkey poop.
4. There is a cave pool (which is basically an indoor, fancy, whirlpool); beware if you are claustrophobic. There is an outdoor pool but it is a 5 minute and many step walk away.
5. The patio needs an umbrella or a awning that covers the entire area - it is too hot to sit out comfortably most of the day without this. They have an awning that only partially covers a quarter of the seating area.

We started our visit here at two stars, but changed it to four stars by the end of our four day stay. So we would give it an overall rating of three. My husband and I came here for our honeymoon. We spent the first four days at the Fanari Villas. (Great hotel! Read my review. We highly recommend this hotel!) For the last four nights, we wanted to stay at a "nicer" hotel and treat ourselves. We booked a room with a cave pool. When we got to our room, we found that the cave pool was not next to our room, instead we had to walk through another hotel room balcony area to get to it. The room was nice, but our window was small, and our view was a staircase. When you are staying at a hotel overlooking a breathtaking view, you want a window with a view. My husband spoke to the manager, but she was unhelpful. PLEASE NOTE: when booking here, request a room with a window with a view and a cave pool next to the room!

The next day a family of five checked into the hotel and stayed in the room between our room and our cave pool. They had visitors come to the hotel and they hung out on their balcony and our walkway. We didn't feel comfortable sitting in our cave pool area, and had to close our window because they were loud. I was very upset. We were spending a lot of money for our room. I spoke to the manager, and she was very helpful this time. She agreed to refund us our money for the rest of the stay, and find us another hotel, or upgrade our room at Aspaki. We ended up choosing the upgrade. In the end, we don't think we were upgraded. It was a cave room pool, the one we thought we had booked originally.

However, the next room was perfect! Spacious, clean, great views, and a private balcony with a cave pool. We enjoyed every moment in our new room. The maintenance staff was very friendly and helpful. They cleaned our rooms two times a day! The made to order breakfasts were delicious! The chef and waitress were friendly and attentive. The views from this hotel are amazing. Only drawback: the "lounge chairs" on our balcony were not comfortable. They were essentially beanbag chairs that unfolded, if you wanted to lay down.

Stay here, but beware when booking!

We choose to stay at the Ois castle because of the reviews we had read about the sunset view and we want to make the Santorini leg of our Greece trip the "relaxing" portion of our honeymoon. We imagined ourselves sitting in our jacuzzi at sunset, romantically enjoying the view.

The night before our departure from Mykonos to Santorini, I got a call from a greek number - given I was roaming with my US phone, I did not pickup. We manged to call them back with our hotel phone and we were informed that due to some booking issue, we couldn't have the marine suit so instead they were going to upgrade us to another suite in the Aspaki. After talking it over with my wife, we informed them that we really want to stay specifically in the Oia village part of town and have access to the sunset view and the jacuzzi. The upgrade in Aspkai had no sunset view nor jacuzzi. After explaining to Dimitri that we just wanted what we booked, we agreed for them to host us for the first 2 nights in our marine suite at Oia Castle and then on the 3rd day, we can move to the Aspaki.
To our shock and dismay, Daniela picked us up on the third day and walked us right into AltaMare instead. You can imagine how confused we were. When we inquired about why we were being checked into AltaMare instead of the Aspaki as promised, she explained that the person in the suite we were supposed to stay in decided to stay an extra night. What?! So we get tossed around when others decide to change their plans?! She further explained that the suite they got us at the AltaMare was more expensive and had a jacuzzi. We ended up with a better experince at Altamare but the manner in which new arrangements sprung up at the last minute and we had no choice but to go along.

On the whole though, aside this experience was average. Breakfast was just average and the room itself was okay. We hated that we couldn't flush toilet paper and the toilet and the shower were in the same space.
We thought the jacuzzi could be warmer but we were told it couldn't be made warmer.
The staff was helpful though. The lady(I forgot her name) and the bell boy were really nice and we wish we had better things to say about our stay there.

My wife & I, stayed in the suite for 5 days and it was the only place we wanted to be... The interior and the view was amazing.

The staff was very pleasent and discreet but always there when you need them.

My family and I just stayed at Oia Castle. You really need to organize transfer from the airport to the hotel through the hotel staff because as one reviewer pointed out, the hotel is not easy to find. The very narrow cobble stone streets are no place for suitcases and we were all in admiration of the porter for negotiating our 3 super heavy suitcases up and down the stairs. We stayed in the honeymoon suite which included a private sauna type small cave pool, a main master bedroom with a smaller bedroom and kitchen. The draw here is the view. People come from all over the island to see the sunset and crowd the steps to watch as you leisurely lounge on your private deck watching the same view. The staff was extremely nice and helpful and we had a great time. My only negative but it's not the hotel's fault is that because to villas are located on the steps and because there are donkeys taking you up from the restaurants in the bay (a fun thing to do for 5 euros each) back up the 300 steps, you can't really leave your windows open to enjoy the nice sea breeze because it smells so bad. The room was nice but the second bathroom was rather cramped. The hotel is convenient to the little town of Oia...just keep in mind that you will need to go up and down steps for every outing.

I and my wife stayed for 3 nights at the Sunset superior suite at the Art Maison Aspaki-Oia Castle in May 2014. We have experienced many unique and wonderful hotels during holidays in various parts of the world but it would not be an exaggeration to say that this hotel ranks right at the very top of the list. Right from our arrival we realized that this would be a hotel experience unlike most others. We were greeted by the staff at the airport transfer drop-off area to assist in transferring our luggage through the narrow winding cobble stoned public alleys, and up and down the many steps that need to be negotiated, to reach our suite (it is better to have the transfer arranged by the hotel since it is not easy to find it on your own). Once we entered through the main door to the private area demarcating the hotel, the view of the Caldera was breath taking. The Sunset suite is spacious with separate and comfortable living and sleeping areas, and includes a steam room in the shower area (up a few steps) and a small kitchen (down a few steps). But the star attraction of the suite is the huge private balcony with large comfortable sofas, a hot tub Jacuzzi and views of the Caldera and the sunset to die for. There is a crowd of people from all over Santorini who gather at Oia every evening to catch the glorious sunset. But some of the best sunset viewing spots are from the rooms and balconies of this hotel (especially if you are in the Sunset suite and decide to slip in to your Jacuzzi with a glass of champagne in your hand). Oia is THE place to stay in Santorini and the Art Maisons is without doubt THE place to stay in Oia. A delicious breakfast is served in the balcony every morning and there are some excellent restaurants nearby (from which the hotel can arrange to deliver room service if you wish). Last, but not least, this hotel would not be what it is without the excellent staff - ever helpful and providing service with a smile. Our special thanks to Boyan, Nicholas, Mario and Anita for making our stay an unforgettable experience. Hope to see all of you again soon.
