“A little piece of heaven”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 4, 2011

We stayed here three nights. The accommodations were wonderful: a kitchenette, a comfortable bed, furniture on the terracef for enjoying the view and eating breakfast or snacks, sitting room with lovely furnishings. Our host/owner was very helpful with suggestions for walks, etc. The room was spotless. This was a splurge for us as we were celebrating our 25th anniversary and it was worth every penney. The location was an easy walk to internet cafe and all the shops/sights in Oia. Great restaurants are Ambrosia and Nectar and Ambrosia, owned by the same folks I beleive. Ambrosia is more expensive. We also had a nice meal at Skala.

Room Tip: All rooms are cottages with great views, no noise

We were very pleased with Lava Oia! We stayed in one of the cave houses with a view of the caldera. It was a spacious studio with a patio overlooking the caldera. The charming room was decorated with "antique" pieces, pottery, etc. Ms. Petridou, the owner of Lava Oia, was an excellent hostess who made us feel like true guests. When we arrived, she had placed fresh flowers in the room and had given us a bottle of Santorini wine. The second day of our stay, she even took us on a little tour of some of the island. It was such a pleasant stay!

We loved the village of Oia, the most picturesque and beauriful place I have ever seen!...but staying in Lava Oia's made our trip to Santorini all it could be. Ms. Petridou is a charming hostess. Her apartments are like a fairy tale. If you want to wake up each morning in paradise, stay here.

My nineteen year old daughter and I just returned from two week trip to Greece which included Athens, Paros and four nights at the Lava Oias on Santorini. Our most favorite place was definitely Lava Oias. Mrs. Petridou greeted us warmly and introduced us to our charming home with comfy beds, fresh pillows, pottery...she even brought a bouquet of freshly cut flowers and put them in a vase for us! She told us all sorts of interesting information about what to see on Santorini and how to use the bus etc....but instructed us first to walk up the street to see the famous sunset that helps make Oia famous. It was incredible....but we were so happy to return to our quiet home tucked away from all the crowds. There was a nice little patio with inlaid pebble design outside our door and a table and chairs and two canvas recliners for us to use....and even some cats (which we love) who stayed with us a bit if we gave them some treats. Sitting on our patio we had a view that we will never forget! I think I spent half the time reminding myself that I was really looking at it. The water is so blue it seems unreal and to think of the history those cliffs have seen...it's just an amazing place. If Santorini is the lost island of Atlantis I can believe it....it is definitely a place the God's would have picked. I would highly recommend Lava Oias to anyone that wants to experience a traditional greek cave home and appreciates charm. I'm looking forward to going back!

Just discovered that our review of Lava Oia never made it onto Tripadvisor and since we’ve recently recommended that our family members also stay here this past May, we would be remiss if we did not add our hearty endorsement of Lava Oia as a wonderful place to stay in Santorini.

We had the good fortune to stay here twice last year, once on our way to Folegandros from Crete for one night and again for two more nights on the way back. This had been our second vacation to Santorini.

Without question, it is the wonderful lady-in-charge, Mrs. Petridou, that partly makes this small complex of traditional apartments such a wonderful place to stay. As an engineer/architect, she personally had a hand in the design and building of the Lava Oia Hotel and obviously takes great pride in welcoming guests to her place. For both my wife and I, and also my mother and brother this year, she provided personalized attention during our respective stays.

Each of the apartments are different and grouped together just below the main street, and south of the main church/cathedral in Oia. We were in three different apartments and each was well designed, with traditional decor, perfect small kitchens, comfortable beds and excellent balconies overlooking the caldera. The apartments are well priced, well-located, quiet, very private and cozy. We thought they were the perfect location for exploring Oia. A traditional Greek breakfast was served each morning by a lovely young lady. The place was spotless. The views were incredible.

Although Mrs. Petridou certainly is not “on-call” she nevertheless offered her services on a number of occasions which went above and beyond what was required of your average hotel owner. On our first pass through Oia, she was away at a conference in Athens but took the time to write out a personal letter of welcome with instructions for us during our one day stay. On our return later in the week, she welcomed us personally. (She had also been kind enough to adjust our reservation when we were stranded in Folegandros for an extra day due to a ferry schedule change.) Then, during a very unusual torrential rain storm which hit the island that day, Mrs. Petridou insisted on driving us to the Sigalas Winery outside Oia and picked us up afterwards - which was hugely appreciated.

This past year, at our insistence, my mother and brother then spent a week at Lava Oia and they were equally as thrilled with their stay. My Mom went so far as to say that they felt like “part of the family” during the week, with the warmth, friendliness and hospitality of Mrs. Petridou and her staff. The nearby neighbours were also gracious and welcoming. My Mom announced that Lava Oia, and her week in Santorni, was the absolute highlight of their trip to the Greek Islands.

I should mention that I was a bit concerned about my mom (in her 70’s) managing the stairs and levels of Lava Oia (and the rest of the village). She had no problems and said that with a bit of care there are no worries about managing stairs -- the unique opportunity of staying in the traditional cliff-hugging cava architecture of Lava Oia is something not to be missed and besides, it was great exercise!

We would highly recommend Lava Oia to families, couples, seniors and anyone looking for a wonderful, cozy, traditional base of operations to explore Santorini. Lava Oia is made extra-special because of the genuine care and attention given to the guests who stay here. Sitting on the balcony in the mornings during breakfast, and relaxing in the evening with a glass of Vin Santo as the sun set – these are wonderful memories our family will forever have of Lava Oia. Yassou to Mrs. Petridou!

Family of five, children in their 20's, booked late, didn't know what to expect. Loved Santorini and Lava Oia's.
Mrs Petridou is a charming, very knowledgeable and enthusiastic hostess. Her efficiency in arranging our booking was matched by the charm and ambience of her properties. Fantastic view over the sea, volcano and caldera so well placed in Oia which from our experience is the most elegant and sophisticated (yet laid back) place on the island.
Not easty to find suitable accommodation for five but this was just right and comparitively cost effective.
Would like to say thank you to Lava Oia's, we had a great holiday and an authentic Greek experience.
