I am fussy and hard to please, I have absolutely nothing even remotely critical to say about this hotel.
Me and my spouse decided this year to go for a long romantic holiday in Santorini. We were having in mind to book a hotel with the best view, something special and at a good price. We booked online after we’ve had read the reviews written for many hotels in Oia.
When reading, we kept an open mind, thought.
In Ecorama, the place where we made the check-in formalities, a sort of a main/tourist info office placed in the bus terminal of the village, Mrs. Diana informed us that we will immediately go to our room. She had someone helping us with our luggage, down the steps to the hotel. Stunned in the beginning we’ve got used to it during our long stay and we understood that this is Oia - free of charge fitness!!!
I think that Caldera Villas is such a great hotel because it's a combination of many different things that work very well together. Hotel location was perfect right in the middle of everything, however still private enough to enjoy your own space... a few blocks from hop on hop off bus, fabulous shopping; fabulous food ( Skala restaurant-nearby the hotel-loved the soup!, Lotza-great food and view, Papagalos-excellent service, delicious food ) with recommendations from the staff at the front desk who - by the way - couldn't have been nicer.. Our trip was split up and we stayed for nine non consecutive nights. We had a standard and a superior studio plus a junior suite at the very end of our stay. All three rooms were just great, authentic, built into the side of the cliff. Beds were extremely comfortable, and we were surprised by the roominess of each room. All rooms, spotless clean thanks to the cleaning ladies, had a cave shower and a kitchenette, enough to prepare a snack. We think that Caldera Villas and our rooms matched all our above mentioned musts. This lovely boutique hotel has an absolutely perfect view over Caldera (the best view I’ve ever seen in my life), you can actually see all the volcanic islands plus entire Santorini island, and it is run in such a manner that one can get both that homey comfy feeling with a positive and joyful atmosphere and a great service. We had our own sun beds on a lovely terrace where we spent lovely evenings.
In the mid-august afternoons, the “hotspot” was the refreshing pool area, a perfect place to relax enjoying the complimentary local wine from the hotel.
The complimentary breakfast there should be considered brunch since we were helping ourselves with as much as we wanted and when asked for a second omelet, which we have to emphasize, was freshly made, we were greeted with the largest smile Elena had. Good, strong coffee, fresh veggies, cheese, ham, cakes and Greek yogurt can make anyone happy.
The adorable staff, always smiling and extremely hospitable, provided the guests with a perfect service, the required attention and, in the same time, with enough privacy. Elena our host was fantastic! She was so helpful to us in planning and organizing our dinners and activities, (endless thoughtful suggestions, cultural education and quick response to requests).
This truly was a piece of Heaven. We can’t thank Elena and the staff enough for their efforts and hospitality!
We had a wonderful stay and we will definitely be back!
