My husband and I met our very good friends here at The Sea Captain's House and stayed for 8 glorious days, occupying the Venetian and Sailing Suites located on the second floor of this picturesque villa overlooking the caldera in Oia. I am sure there isn't a more heavenly place on this planet. There were days when the only exertion made was opening bottles of wine and propping legs up on the outdoor lounge chairs! It is quiet and charming; what more do you need than the Santorini sun and view? Tony, our host, was busy with his restaurants (which offer discounts when staying at The Sea Captain's House-- we highly recommend the splurge of dinner at Ambrosia) and other projects, but was very cordial and accommodating when we saw him. But Antonio spoiled us completely. He is a man of amazing talents: preparing and bringing wonderful breakfasts at our request on the terrace (complete a "wish list" for breakfast and the time-- no deadlines!) and is a proficient masseuse. In fact, by the time this review is written, The Sea Captain's House will be next door to a spa and massage center. Please take advantage of the various services (manicures to salt rubs). I couldn't persuade Antonio to come home with us, but who would leave this paradise?

Both suites were immaculate, large and airy; the bathrooms comfortable and stocked with L'Occitane bath products, bathrobes and thick, fluffy towels. Fresh flowers and tasty pastries/cookies can be found daily on the sitting area tables. There is a dry sauna available for guests; unfortunately, we didn't have time to try it out, but there is room for 2 people. The suites are exactly as they look on the Sea Captain's House website; I would include pictures with this review; however, they need to be transferred from digital tape! We were picked up promptly at the Santorini airport as promised and suitcases were transported to the villa via donkey taxi, as no vehicles are allowed in Oia! All services offered were impeccably handled!

The Sea Captain's House offer special packages, one which we took advantage of included a private all day catamaran trip around the caldara with "Captain Ted"; what fun we had that day. I highly recommend looking into the various packages; I am sure there is one that will suit your stay.

The best thing though is the feeling of being a part of a family when staying here. You don't feel like a guest at all. This stay was priceless, and we will definitely be back in this corner of heaven. And don't forget to say hi to Bouchinette! She will greet you with a lick and a wagging tail!

Tony Mosiman and his staff were "top notch" when it comes to hospitality during our stay at The Sea Captain's House in Oia. This level of hospitality actually began when I was researching our stay more than 6 months prior to our arrival. I had come across the web site on a search, and any questions I had were answered by the next morning when I checked my email. Tony not only helped me in choosing which room was right for us, but also helped out with suggestions for the entire island as well. This was a big help, considering that neither my wife nor I had been to Greece before and extensive info on Santorini can be limited.
The Sea Captain's House has 3 suites in the house, and there is an apartment called "Falling Stars" which is just steps up the path from the House. This is where we stayed for 6 nights. It was amazing to say the least. The views from this apartment were absolutely incredible, both from inside the house as well as on the private balcony. On the website there is a link "Falling Stars" which will show some photos to illustrate what I'm talking about. This apartment receives alot of natural light due to the amount of windows and its location...just perfect for us!!!
For our stay, I booked the "Island Relax" Special for 2 which included roundtrip transfers from the airport, massages for each person, 1 days use of the car, and 20% off at restaurants "Ambrosia" and "Ambrosia and Nectar". Tony booked us for opening nights of both retaurants and we are still raving about the food 1 month later...absolutely delicious.
As far as Santorini goes, it is truly a magical place. A day has not passed since we left that I have not thought of those breathtaking views and beautiful colors. The town of Oia was perfect for us because it was removed from the bar nightlife of Fira...we prefer a great dinner and bottle of wine. Not to mention the world famous sunsets out over the Agean...Wow!
My wife and I have made a promise to return to Santorini for a future Wedding Anniversary. We will be returning to the Sea Captain's House as well. Thank you to Tony and his wonderful staff!

SEA CAPTAINS HOUSE was a bit difficult for us to find at first: (WORTH IT !!) We asked several locals who eagerly pointed the way.(Tony the owner is well-known and loved here) There are no signs on the main steet in OIA that we could see. We were the second couple to stay in the NEWLY RENOVATED MEMORIES HOUSE: set off from the main house with the most incredible views we found in all of OIA. We were staying elsewhere but left early due to the stairs and lack of jacuzzi .We checked into the Sea Captains House instead. It is right in the heart of town but hidden and there are only a few steps compared to other hotels. It was exactly what we were looking for. PRIVATE, GORGEOUS, WELL-STOCKED, VIEWS EVERYWHERE YOU TURN. We are now at our third villa on this stay , but we cant help compare them all to the Sea Captains House. We are paying more than double at our third villa and honestly we miss the Sea Captains House for the following reasons: The rooms looked like an interior decorator designed them. We had 2 BR's in the traditional cave-style and each had it's own WC/shower. The main shower was larger, marble, italian fixtures and sunshower head. Linens and towels were luxurious waffleweave and even had washcloths, rare in Europe. The kitchen was adorable gourmet- quality and stocked with sodas, croissants, jams, juice, peanuts and other treats. There was an espresso maker, full stove, dishwasher, microwave and large gourmet fridge/freezer.
Flat screen TV with DVD , full set of dishes and kitchen gadgets, extra blankets and down pillows. Candles galore (don't even turn on the electricity for the best ambiance) plenty of HOT water. Did I mention an outdoor JACUZZI tucked into the corner of your terrace, the steps lead up to a rooftop private terrace, the best place for sitting in the fluffy bathrobes and seeing a few shooting stars! The jacuzzi does not have hot water but will be fine in warmer months or daytime. This new suite sits right under one of the blue-domed churches, literally beside it. The bells will ring in the morning! The breakfast was awesome and a better value than the local cafes by far. Tony was always around and took great care of us during our short stay. We would have stayed here exclusively if we had discovered it sooner. We ate at Ambrosia and Ambrosia Nectar: loved them. Also loved Candouni's, a romantic place on a quaint street away from the crowds. Has a lovely courtyard and inside is nice too. DiDi the cat will jump up and join you so be warned! Tony also offers hot stone massage and catamaran tour though we did not have time to do this. Some famous magazines have reviewed this place and loved it, all before the new suite was complete so I can't wait to see new reviews in the future. I hear one more new suite is on the way but will be hard to convince us to try anything but the MEMORIES suite.

Where do I even begin??
I have never written a review, this is my first! But we had the most amazing honeymoon I just had to put it down so others could be encouraged!
First of all, I am Greek by heritage. We have family who live in Athens/Pireaus. I have been to Santorini before but this time would be much different. Money wasn't a factor- it was my honeymoon afterall!! We wanted it all! We wanted PARADISE!

I think I made it my full time job, spending HOURS researching the perfect hotels/ things to do for our honeymoon to Santorini. I EVEN contacted a member of tripadvisor based on his review of The Sea Captain's house (thanks Harry!). I also probably emailed back and forth with Tony 100s of times. I am sure Tony wanted to change his address after a while! But he was the perfect gentlemen and host. Always quick to respond, always able to help. Amazing.

Unfortunately, because of all the hours, days, and weeks I spent on my research, I waited too long and I was unable to book our entire honeymoon stay at The Sea Captain's b/c they became sold out but Tony was AMAZING- among all the wonderful things he did for us (for little or no charge) he helped me find another hotel nearby, arranged for our luggage to be seamlessly transfered to the other hotel by donkey (which is a big deal in Oia- you don't just get around there easily, and just catered to our every whim! This truly is one of the best places to stay in Oia! Everything everyone says in the reviews for this hotel are TRUE! The only thing I could say that could be missed is a pool so I was really glad we picked a hotel with a pool for our other days there (Fanari Villas- wonderful place too!) We got the best of both worlds!

I would HIGHLY suggest renting Tony's car for at least one day. His car rental prices are great AND it's most convenient when he hands you his keys and you don't have to hassle with the rental shop but BEST of all is that he has the greatest convertible or Jeep- not a dingy mini! You drive in style! :)

MUST DOs:
-Rent Tony's car for at least one day
-Go to Amoudi Beach (be prepared for a long and strenuous walk- may want to drive or have Tony pick you up) make sure you eat at the fisherman's wharf FRESH FISH!!
-Go to Fira- visit the beaches- especially the beaches with the lounge beds, get a massage on the beach
-Eat at Tony's restaurants- Ambrosia and Nectar was our favorite
-Visit the wineries- it's so much better than NAPA Valley, CA!
- Take Tony's sailboat cruise!!

Must Bring:
Jacket/ Pants - gets chilly at night
Dressy Clothes- people dress up and dress trendy- if you like to do this you'll be at home

I hope you found this review helpful. Like I said, I made it a full time job researching what to do, where to stay, etc. I could go on and on so if anyone would like more information please feel free to email me at:

Bon Voyage!

“Loved this hotel!”

My family stayed here last June. We finished our tour of Europe with a 3-day stay in Santorini and, although we had seen beautiful places in Switzerland, Italy, and the mainland of Greece, our experience in Santorini was by far the best of all.
When we arrived by taxi (arranged by the hotel), we were greeted outside by the hotel owner (Tony - VERY nice man) and his assistant who carried our luggage for us down the steps to the hotel. Pictures do not do justice to this beautiful place. We had seen beautiful photos of the island, but halfway down the stairs, when we came upon The View, it was one of those Wow Moments that we will never forget. I don't think I've ever said the word "beautiful" so many times in my life. The island is breathtaking.
We picked the Sea Captain's House based on reviews here. We were not disappointed. We stayed in the Captain's House room which is a beautiful 2-level loft-type arrangement. There are actually 3 sleeping areas, a very nice bathroom, and a huge terrace for enjoying the most delicious breakfast we had on our entire trip. There were always little surprises left for us when we returned from sightseeing or dinner. Candles would be burning and little treats would be left out for us. An example of their attention to detail . . . my daughter spilled something on her jeans, so she rinsed them out in the sink and hung them up to dry. When we returned to our room, they had been washed, dried, and folded for us and we certainly didn't ask for that.
I am posting pictures of this wonderful place. We are going back again this summer. Unfortunately I waited too long to reserve the Captain's House room, and some other lucky family will get to experience it, but we're going anyway! It's that good!
