“Only worth it if you're intent on a cheap place within walkind distance of Oia”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2013

I partially regret leaving only a 2-star review because the couple who owns the hotel is very, very sweet. Unfortunately this is just not a great place to stay if you're planning to visit Oia. Personally I expected a lot more based on the reviews here and would have arranged things differently had I known.

The bottom line is that if you're staying in the northern part of Santorini, particularly Oia, you want to be in Oia and/or facing the Caldera. This place is neither. It's located in a not particularly nice residential village outside Oia and more than the "10 minute walk to Oia" as it's advertised. More like 20 minutes, and not a particularly nice walk at night. In fact the hotel itself is located within a little maze of steps that you feel lucky to find every time you arrive at the hotel (especially the first time). If you're on a vacation that's even a little bit romantic, this is not the place to stay. Better to spring for more while in Oia and save while you're elsewhere. Or stay in Imerovigli or somewhere that has a Caldera view.

The pros are that the couple who manage it are very, very warm and eager to help. The rooms are spacious and clean (although ours had a slight odor of wine or liquor when we entered). The breakfast is homemade and very, very good. And frankly it's cheap for the Oia area.

So if all you're looking for is a place to lay your head and to save a few bucks while being able to walk to Oia, this might do the trick. But if you care (as I now do) about flushing your toilet paper down the toilet, you're advised to stay elsewhere because the water pressure apparently isn't strong enough to flush toilet paper :-(

The Ambelia is a beautiful hotel and would definitely recommend it and stay there again! Our villas was very clean, with well-appointed living room, kitchen and bathroom. Unforgettable mattress, terrific view, exceptional service. the hosts are attentive, informative and friendly. The breakfast was delicious with excellent health options like homemade marmalade and omelets. Finikia is a traditional and peaceful village, with unique natural beauty, just the right distance from Oia's town (a nice walk -10 min). Nothing to complain, excellent value for money.

Room Tip: beautiful cave house, very comfortable!

Everything was perfect! The hotel is located in the peaceful and landscaped village of Finikia close to the city centre of Oia. The staff was very accommodating and helpful in assisting us with things to do on the island. The bright and elegant villas, decorated with traditional style furnishings, provide space, comfort and tranquillity to enjoy a complete rest. Amazing sea view, very complete breakfast with delicious homemade cakes and local delicacies!!!

Nothing negative to report at all. We hope to go back again soon.

Ambelia’s villas is comfortable and has a great view on the Aegean Sea . Everything about this hotel is exceptional, from the very clean and spacious villas to the excellent service, to the great value. Finikia is a small beautiful village with very impressive cave houses, just 10 minutes walk from Oia’s bustle! The real attraction to this place is the wonderful, helpful couple, who run the hotel and is so lovely and make you feel so at home. Nothing was too much trouble, friendly welcome with drinks, car hire arranged for us, great breakfast, (amazing array of homemade cakes), full of suggestions! Anything you need doing they attend to straight away, and always with a smile. Stop looking – book this hotel now!

I'd highly recommend to everybody, thanks guys for everything- we hope to see you in the future again!!!! A big kiss to your lovely son!

My boyfriend and I stayed in this family-run business for 4 nights, and only wish we could have stayed longer! The place is quiet and less than 15 min walk from Oia. The villas with the amazing view on Cyclades islands, the service, the breakfast, the hospitality / everything is excellent and perfect with all the comforts you need – and really well worth it. The staff are very kind and helpful - friendly and funny also, they arranged everything for us (rent a car, day trip to the volcano, recommendations of restaurants and sights to visit – don’t miss ammoudi bay!!!). They were ready all the time to do anything they could for us. * highlights: 1 the traditional taverna near to the hotel (Krinaki)2 the rich breakfast with homemade cakes and local delicatessies! So overall, you will not be disappointed if you stay at this wonderful hotel.

We stayed 5 days at the beginning of September at this traditional accommodation, which comprises of 9 spacious and fully equipped cave houses. The villas offer sea view (west part of the island, not the volcano) and a breathtaking view to the traditional settlement of Finikia where they are located - I can't begin to describe the colours as the sun sets or the infinity of the stars in the night!
It is definitely the place to be, because the settlement per se is so picturesque, so quiet and very close (10-15 min walk) to Santorini's highligt, Oia - and because the accommodation is great value for money. To be honest, the pictures on their site don't do them justice, they are better.
Our studio was tastefully decorated, for instance I loved the clever way they hid the air condition units or the built in bathtub. Our bed was king size (as someone already said, with an unforgettable mattress), for a change (in this country) the closet was full of hungers for our clothes, all kitchen equipment is a set and not sparse glasses and cups, breakfast is prepared right in front of your eyes (extra bonus, Sissy's daily cakes, notably the one with chocolate) and the couple who run the accommodation are so friendly and eager to assist you, you feel you are part of their family.
There is one very good taverna (Krinaki) at a 100 m. distance for the times you can't be bothered to cook or walk to Oia (where restaurants are anyway considerably much more expensive) or drive around the island. We shall definitely be back and I strongly recommend the accommodation - unless you have very young babies or you find it hard to walk with high heels in pebbled steps (but in these cases you shouldn't at all go to Santorini, this landscape is what makes the island unique).

Room Tip: "Our" villa number 1 was by my estimate around 50 square meters, the last cave in the comp...

We stayed there for 5 days and it was fantastic! The location was perfect as well being so close to Oia’s town (only a short walk away). It’s situated in Finikia village (about 10-15 minutes walk from Oia’s center). Finikia is a very beautiful and peaceful village, is the traditional setting of Oia full of cave houses which are very impressive. Our cave house in Ambelia was fantastic and had a great sea view - full equipped - very clean with a real king size bed and unforgettable mattress!!! The breakfast buffet was just lovely with a lovely variety of homemade and local delicacies. The couple who run the hotel was very friendly and accommodating, Thanks to both of you guys Vasillis – Sissy and the relaxing time we had in Ambelia. Ideal for couples wanting a quiet and stylish break!

Highly recommend a stay here!
