“Business stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2014 via mobile

I stayed in this hotel when I was working on business for 2 weeks, I was pleasantly supprised as it was a lot better than some of the other Kyriad hotels I have stayed in, It was clean and little touches like a bottle of water in the room, tea and coffee making facilities which can be unusual in France, The double bed was larger than normal, The room had a shower and there was body wash and shampoo provided, The staff were very friendly and helpful, they spoke good English, Breakfast was the normal continental breakfast and plenty available, There is a restaurant next which is not tied to the hotel, The restaurant was very good, ran by a husband and wife, again very friendly, so much so that when my colleague and I return late and they saw us they kept the restaurant open to enable us to eat, I highly recommend the restaurant, just don't ask for a well done steak!

A very pleasant, practical, compact, motel-type hotel, located among the pines close to a shopping centre. If you need to be in that part of the greater Montpellier area, it is perfect. Nice, well appointed rooms (with TV, water boiler, a good bathroom and comfortable beds). Reasonably priced. An excellent breakfast (with fresh orange juice) is served in the morning. A friendly couple running the premises. Shall return if in that area again.

You're about 25 minutes away from Montpellier center and you need a car to get there--this place is geared more for the business/hospital personnel in the area. The room was big enough but showed a little wear--I liked the fact that the floor was wood and not rug--they have a restaurant but we didn't go--the prices seemed a little high for the area but then maybe because you're a forced customer when you stay here since you're removed from everything. They do have a pool for the summer time.

Central Montpellier was completely sold out of hotel rooms, so I took a chance on this Kyriad that was suggested by a colleague. Americans will call this property a motel. It's similar in design and quality to a good quality American motel. It seems to have been recently renovated. The room, though small, was spotlessly clean and tastefully furnished.

The location is rather pretty in a wooded area. It's definitely off the tourist path and I got the distinct impression that English speaking guests were very rare. (You might gather the same from the reviews here.) But the employees were friendly and helpful and we got by between their spotty English and my pitiful French.

There's a restaurant on-site. I found it very disappointing. Breakfast was served in the lobby. It was an adequate, simple continental breakfast.

I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Booked two rooms here. It is more of a motel style. Arrived just before 10pm, and the kids went straight out to the outdoor pool to swim as it was open until 10.30, nice clean pool area, sunbeds etc, probably not used much as it seemed to be more of a place for businessmen to stay.
Rooms were very clean, bathrooms great too with a really powerful shower. Room even had tea, coffee tray which you don't usually get in France. Receptionist was lovely, really helpful and spoke fluent English.
Breakfast was 11 euros which is quite expensive but you could have as much as you like. There was the usual cold hams, cheeses etc, as well as bacon, scrambled egg, and mushrooms. Also breads, croissants, cereal, freshly squeezed juices, and a selection of coffees.
I have never stayed in a Kyriad before but would definitely use again.

Room Tip: Rooms 40-50 are at the back of the hotel , situated upstairs away from the car park

1 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2007

I visited Montpellier at the end of September on business. My company chose the Campanile at St Clement as the majority of the hotels in the area were fully booked.

After a fantastic yet extended taxi ride from the airport we arrived at the Campanile in the middle of a rainstorm. It was immediately evident that we were probably some of the first English guests to stay at the motel.

After the confusing check in we headed towards the rooms which are motel style across three floors (no lifts.) The room was probably one of the worst I have ever stayed in. Most of the fixtures were damaged and away from the walls, there was a complete covering of mould throughout the room and the linen looked like it had been grabbed from a tramp. I decided that for hygiene and security it would be better if I didn't unpack my things.

We visited the hotel restaurant one evening but after being treated like criminals for ordering a beer we tried eating out as much as possible. Breakfast was taken at the hotel and was, at best, grotty.

Check out was an absolute nightmare and took over an hour as they demanded we paid them again even though the company had paid for the rooms up front.

Onsite facilities are terrible and one evening a walked the mile to a vending machine just so I could have a drink.

The location is terrible for Montpellier unless you have transport. It was a good 45 minute walk to the nearest bus stop across roads with no pavements and lighting.

I see no reason why anyone would want to stay at the Campanile other than locals after cheap accommodation. Best avoided at all costs.

  • Liked — Watching the Pine Martins and the wildlife in the morning at the same time clearing the mould from my lungs
  • Disliked — Everything from the foundations to roof
