“Simple. Good. Does What It's Supposed Too.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2012

When you see locals come from far and wide to eat here you know its a good thing. Old fashioned service, simple menu, nothing special or fancy but good food and price - average 15€ per person for three courses. The courtyard is hot and busy during summer months but we have been here in the winter and still had good service and good. Well worth popping in.

“It should be good, BUT...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 22, 2012

We tend to stop over in Puisserguier, to spend time with friends, when driving back from Spain, and first visited Cafe de La Grille (Capestang) in April 2011. At that time it ticked all the boxes.
We sat outside in the courtyard, which was very busy on a warm sunny day. Most of the outside tables were filled with locals, and a fair mixture of English; Irish and Dutch within hearing distance.
The service was predictably slow-ish - but this has never bothered us in France as lunches are more of an occasion than the usual 'in-an-out-as-quick-as-you-can' many people expect in England...
The food dishes (salads / mussels / meats) were well received, and washed own with a very drinkable house red wine. Overall a very satisfactory meal - and somewhere to re-visit on our next journey.
We next visited on 19 March 2012 - a Monday evening. It was too cold to sit outside, and our party of 8 sat inside the huge marquee style covered area next to the main bar, with gas heaters pushing heat down from the roofing structure.
There were only 2 or 3 tables occupied, and the service was traditioinally relaxed.
However, there was a subtle change in attitude in the serving staff when a similar sized party of locals entered. We suddenly became invisible...
Our soups came - but no bread. We had to ask twice, and watched the local party being served their drinks first.
Admittedly, the fish soup was very good.
6 of our party opted for duck breast for main. The waiter asked how these were to be cooked, and was given our requests in fluent French (by our fluent French speaker!) - 4 rare and 2 medium. Unusually for French chefs, they came as 4 medium and 2 well done - accompanied by a huge plate of cold overcooked 'frites'.
A request for another litre of (delicious) house-red also had to be repeated.
So, overall, the experience was disappointing this time round.
I am not suggesting any anti-English treatment as the menu is in French and English - and the website is also in English. We just felt second-best.
We will probably try another lunch later this year but, like some of the comments already passed, we will also try La Galiniere or La Table du Vigneron for comparison.

“ignore many of bad reviews, this is not a bad place to eat”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2012

I have eaten here many times throughout the year. The food is simple fayre and always tasty. The comments about poor service to the English in other reviews seems very unjust. Take as find, I have NEVER had issues with service and greeted with smile and Gallic ways! Yes, in peak summmer times they get very busy and things can go wrong, but take it all with a pinch of salt, this is not high end dining so don't expect it!

“Great Value, Simply Done”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 19, 2012

I visited with my family in January so obviously not the height of the tourist season, there were a few locals at the bar an some other people having dinner.
We were greeted nice and shown a table. The menu is exactly what you would expect a selection of good simple food at very reasonable prices, steaks, salads, pizzas etc.
I didnt experience any issues with not being the best of French speakers! Like anywhere I find if you are willing to try with a foreign language people are more than willing to help and listen to you, I guess if you go expecting everyone to speak perfect English and dont make an effort to at least say Bon Soir, Merci and s'il vous plait then you might be frowned upon.
The food we had (a steak, escalope and sausages) were delivered to our table quickly and exactly what we wanted and expected simple, filling and good value; as always in France the house wine was perfect for this type of meal.
It has a large outdoor area which I am sure is packed during the summer months, and has views over the picturesque village square.
Perfect if you want a quick, simple good value meal.

“Great Value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 19, 2012

I have visited the grille many times when in capestang.
I have always enjoyed the food and friendly atmosphere.
The menu has a variety of dishes to choose from and all are great value.
I especial like visiting in the summer months and sitting out side in the courtyard.
I would definitely recommend the grille to anyone visiting capestang.
