“Honeymoon trip”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 19, 2013

We spent a short 4 day honeymoon at Changa. It is a tented camp with only 4 tents and thus not many guests. They are far apart from each other to ensure privacy. The tents all have a few of the lake and include outside shower and bath as well as comfortable and clean beds.

They were pre-warned that this was a honeymoon and were prepared with everything that we would want. The boat to pick us up at Kariba was present on our arrival and we got a very warm welcome from all the staff. The service was generally excellent. All our needs were catered to from the candle light dinner on the beach on the day of our arrival, to the quality of the food. The quality of the guides is excellent, neither my husband nor I are easy to please here and were pleasantly surprised.
Our majour concern was housekeeping, the room was not as clean as it should have been, bins were not emptied once during the course of our stay.
I would really recommend this camp to others.

Thank you so much for your very kind words about the camp and we are so glad that you enjoyed your honeymoon stay at Changa and we wish you all the best for your future together. We are terribly sorry about the standards of cleanliness in the room. At the time of your visit, we had a few problems with our staff being sick however this is certainly no excuse and we will make sure that in future this does not happen again. Thank you so much for bringing this to our attention as it only helps us to improve our service for other guests. We very much hope to see you back again sometime soon. Best regards, from the Changa team.

We stayed just 2 nights at Changa Safari Camp. What a wonderful spot they have found to locate the camp. A perfect location on Kariba. From the start, the greeting, the boat ride there, to the boat ride back 2 days later, we experienced charming hospitality. I am not a safari person, having little interest in going game viewing, as I am quite content with beautiful views. Most important for me is the location, accomodation, food and service, when i travel. I cannot recommend this camp highly enough. The tents are just beautiful. A work of art. I would be happy to just stay in them all day, venturing out to my little chair overlooking the lake and complete peace. Bed fantastic with overhead fans, beautiful colours in the canvases and walls and slab, and outdoor shower and bath that finish this truly romantic setting. So utterly comfortable and beautifully designed and attention to detail that is seldom found. The dining and sitting areas also most attractive and relaxing. I did not go on the game drives, as i was happy to avoid vehicles and hot drives, but the evening boat cruise was great. Whilst the men caught fish for dinner, I could just sit. It is what i like doing on holiday in beautiful surroundings, which is what i found here at Changa to perfection. It was simply, completely beautiful, and totally relaxing. Great design all round, thank you.

Room Tip: all the tents are great.

We switched off here for 4 wonderfiul days - spacious. comfy "tents", immaculate service tailored to our preferences in a most attractive setting looking east across the bay at the Matusadonna hills. We had tent 1 which benefits (in our view!) from the waves on the beach nearby most nights when the breeze gets up. Game is scarce apart from elephants and the intersting variety of birds sparse: the fishing was good. Our morning walk along the Conjedza river was captivating.(see photo)
We drove from Harare (4 1/2 hours) and took the boat transfer from Kariba (45 minutes) which was a bit bouncy and wet on the way home as we left before the lake settled. Others flew in via the airstrip on nearby Fothergill island. We know of no better place for tranquil relaxation and guess it will also be ideal for families with children over 6 who will love the pool, sand, boat trips, game drives and sufficient sightings of big game, hippos, crocodiles, lizards and spiders.

Room Tip: at present there are only 4 "tents" but anopther 4 are to be built - all 4 are quiet (but...

We had a wonderful holiday at Changa Safari Camp and the staff looked after us so well, we felt we were staying with friends. As we were there mainly for a bird photographic safari, we found plenty of interesting birds to photograph. The wonderful part about Changa is that there they have both safari vehicles and boats for the lake. The games drives on land produced many bird species, elephant, lion, etc, and on the water we saw waterbirds and hippo, as well as being able to fish for bream. It was truly an "away from it all" holiday escaping the British winter!

Changa Safari Lodge is set on Lake Kariba water edge in Matusadona, only 40 mins by boat from Kariba and also flights into Fothergill with a short transfer across. Food was delicious!!! we had great game drives spotting Lion and Cheetah!!!

This is the best place that has happened at Kariba in many many years. A first class first world camp in the most amazing surroundings. All the modern conveniences like 24hr electricity in the tents and back up systems that are amazing. They go beyond the call of duty to setve you and your wish is their aim. We mentioned it would be great to have a braai on the beach - they went the extra mile and took the whole dining room table onto the beach with candles everywhere - so beautiful. This is a place for a real "spoilie". The guude mare every effort to enable to find the one and only pride of lions in the park - a black maned male lion together with his six lionesses and eight cubs!! What a delight! The tents have an outdide shower and bath which overlooks the lake yet very private. This place is a delight - and i highly recommend it.
