We arrived, mud-splattered, after a week of heavy rains on safari to the brilliant blue skies and emerald waters of Zanzibar and, in comparison to our safari lodges, Ocean Paradise was unabashed luxury. From the moment we entered the impossibly high-domed palm-thatched foyer we were all enraptured: the place was picture postcard perfect. And over the following week, it didn't disappoint. The rooms were elegant (our teenage daughters were situated in a room adjoining ours) and simply yet beautifully furnished. Each day our beds would be decorated with fragrant blossoms, which was very romantic.
The beach was stunning (though not good for swimming), but that didn't bother us as the hotel pool was sparkling. Everywhere there was evidence of careful maintenance; I agree with the last poster that the manager Bernd Brandt was always around and definitely set the tone - friendly but efficient. We had no complaints on any score and when I queried an excess charge on my bill, it was promptly resolved.
I'm not a big one for buffets but I found the food good -better than many other hotels we ate at whilst in Tanzania. Our daughters were more than happy with the choices and enjoyed the themed nights .
The blue skies did give way to torrential rain one day but we were happy enough to sit in the bar area and chat to the staff and to other guests,.The manager came and apologised as if he were personally responsible - not really necessary but a nice touch.
There was an 'internet cafe' which was useful for reconfirming flights home; however, the computers weren't attached to a printer so that made obtaining a printout difficult. We suggested to the hotel that they rectify this. Perhaps they wil.
All in all, a fabulous time and I can recommend this hotel to anyone.
