We visited the West Coast National Park on the 7th and 8th September and although the weather was cold, it was a wonderful experience. If you enter from Langebaan side, travel towards the park, up and over the hill and as you descend the hill the field on the left of the road has the most amazing variety of flowering plants, quite spectacular, just carpets of flowers which one needs to get out and walk amongst!! The staff on the gate were very pleasant and helpful and we were fortunate to see a caracal. There were pockets of wild flowers everywhere you looked, large numbers of flamingoes in the lagoon and beautiful scenery. When you get into Postberg the carpets of different coloured flowers are just amazing!!Fields and fields of colour with about 50 Elands and a herd of zebra grazing in between the flowers, an amazing sight!! We went up to the viewpoint which overlooks Langebaan, also a gorgeous view, well worth a visit. Kraalbaai is a really lovely spot to have a picnic as it is very pretty and quite protected from the wind. Hopefully we will visit this beautiful area many times in the future.
