“Nice hotel on most beautifull beach”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

Before booking the hotel I was checking the feedbacks here and I confirm them: not new, but clean and if you do just minimum, the staff will their absolute best. Good food, fresh vegetables and fruit, lot of fish and GREAT sweets. I appreciated their effort on cleanness - they master it. The beach was close, sun beds and umbrellas working, enough water and drinks in beach bar. If you are looking for a nice week on great beach (8 km) then this is it. If you are looking for fancy hotel - forget this place.

Room Tip: Rooms aside form restaurant are very quiet. I had 182.

My worst Experience on holliday. A good hotel managed by incompetent people. Even my 7 year old kid wanted to go home after the 3rd day. Bad Service, Unfriendly Staff, no child activities, no Air Conditioning, no Ice, no lemmon, No shrimp at the seafood restaurant unless you ask at 18h, (before it opens) to save some for you. The fresh water Swimming pool was milky, and the two of salt water were very dirty. Waited 30 minutes for yogurt at breakfast. No hot water for a bath.
The only way to get a good Caipirinha With Ice and Lemmon was to go to the beach next to the pier in a brazilian bar.
The best is the beach and it´s pier and the native people of Santa Maria

Room Tip: Bungalows are ok if every thing works.

Since I couldn't find info for this hotel nicely at one place and spent a lot of time looking at various sites I told myself that when I get back I'll write a complex review. Here it is.

FOOD
- Great for a meat (all kinds including fish), vegetables & sweet lovers
- If you have all-inclusive and you would want to stay at another beach during lunch you can order PICNIC BOX (sandwich, fruits).

DRINKS
- Water: all guests without Board distinction have the option to pick up water in PET bottles of 1.5L in unlimited quantities at reception.
- Cocktails: Pina Colada, Mojito, ... not drinkable more than once :)
- Beer: Good
- Wine: the red and the white wine is good, the pink one is terrible :)

POOL
2 x fresh water
1 x salt water
2 x children's pool with fresh water

INTERNET
WiFi for 3.50 EUR/ 30 min. No need to use those 30 mins at once. It is possible to log-in and log-out, which is great.
2 x PC available at reception for the same fee as wifi.

MOSQUITO
Almost none. In 14 days time we only saw 2 mosquitoes.

WIND
Yes, it blows. Sometimes less, sometimes more, but blows. You get use to it quite quickly. The wind may vary throughout the year.

HOUSEKEEPING
Daily.

PROBLEMS SOLVING
After we had reported malfunctioning phone receiver and uncontrollable air conditioning the hotel upgraded a bungalow for us for the rest of the stay, for free.

TAXI
Ubiquitous taxi drivers. Price 1 EUR / km.

DIVING
Manta Diving, which is next door and has the best reviews on the internet. We have tried them and they are good.

WINDSURFING
I recommend SurfZone windsurf base/school, which is under the leadership of Zambia girl Sheena and American guy Rod. They have two bases/schools, one at Santa Maria beach and the other one at Rio Beach. You can windsurf under any of these 2 bases/schools. We compared several windsurf centers and SurfZone has the best prices and the best approach.

BEACHES
1) Santa Maria Beach - directly at the hotel beautiful kilometers-long sandy beach. Parasols and sun beds. Beach towels.
2) Rio Beach: 3 km from the hotel, taxi 3 - 4 EUR. If there are big waves at Santa Maria Beach there should be kind of flat water at Rio Beach.

THE OCEAN
Beautiful, clean.
Waves are often big, but due to the absence of undercurrents the swimming is safe

FOOD BOARD & ALL INCLUSIVE
All inclusive: all alcoholic & non-alcoholic beverages are included during the whole day.
Half board: coffee, tea, soft drinks at breakfast are included. Drinks during dinners are not included.

SAFETY DEPOSIT IN THE ROOM
Big enough for two laptops, money, camera, ... Fee 9 EUR / week.

BEACH TOWELS
Free for all guests. Be ready to pay 30 EUR/room deposit, of which 7.50 EUR is subject to refund towels. The rest of the deposit is subject to refund television and air conditioning remote control.

PARASOLS & SUN BEDS
Free of change.

SERVICES ON THE BEACH
Beach bar: beer, wine, soft drinks, toilet

STAFF
Be patient if you need to replace a bulb or repair air condition :) You need to urge it 2 - 3 times and you got it.

ISLAND TOUR
Highly recommended, great.

HEALTH CARE
Due to traveling with a small child (20 months), we investigated the availability of health care and the findings are as follows:
1) in Santa Maria there is a doctor (German nationality) to call
2) in the Santa Maria there is a Clinic (subjectively looks good from the outside)
3) in Espargos capital there is a newly built hospital (we saw it, it exists)
You have to pay in cash for your health care and then claim it to the insurance company

CHILD OVER 2 YEARS
If the child can handle 6hrs long flight, there should not be no a problem.

ANIMATION PROGRAMS
Great selection, high quality.

CAR RENTAL
Price 60 EUR / Ford Ranger, Toyota Hilux, etc. Roads are very bad and 4 wheel drive car is a must. There are quite a few interesting places on the island. The roads to the highlights are poorly signposted. It is necessary to have 1) at least a basic map (as for one in a travel agency where you rent your car), 2) a little intuition and a 3) little courage here and there to ask the locals.

STANDARD & SUPERIOR BUNGALOW
Superior bungalow is almost the same as Standard one. There are only small differences.

DINNER IN SALINAS RESTAURANT
Included for All inclusive guests, otherwise it cost 50 EUR. Nice dinner, but not worth 50 EUR :)

MONEY EXCHANGE
Not necessary to change to local currency Escudo. Euros are accepted everywhere. The course is set and by all respected, so no problem.

Room Tip: Superior bungalow is almost the same as Standard one. There are only small differences. Go for the s...

Stood at the Oasis Belorizonte for 7 nights.

Arrival: April 27th, Departure: May 4th ; Room 269

We were a couple, travelling with our 3 year old. Travelled with another couple also with a child, same age as ours. Had a great time.

We had done our homework and knew what to expect. Therefore we enjoyed our stay very much.
We have selected this hotel because of the beach which is great, even compared to the Caribbean ones where we usually spend our winter breaks.

The hotel per se is simple, you can tell it's not new. but has made some refurbishments. We hesitated between Oasis Belorizonte and Morabeza, more upscale, but since the latter was not an AI and more catered for couples, we opted for the Belorizonte.

Beach: 5*
We give the 4* overall rating to our review because of the beach which makes all the difference: wide, enough palapas, well spread out ; no loud music by the beach (just during aerobics time and the rest of the time, “mornas” and other calm/relaxing/good vibe music) and without many people. Just perfect.
The ocean was clear light blue and calmer compared to other stretches, like the ones at the Riu’s complexes.
We were close enough to Santa Maria and could go there for a walk (10 m) or just go to the pier and watch the fish arriving and the women preparing and selling it.
There was a nice bar by the beach for drinks too. Pity that AI does not includes food there. For us it would be ideal as this would avoid us going to the main buffet.

Rooms: 3*
We stood in a renovated bungalow by the beach and it worked fine. The room was small and so was the bathroom. The furniture was IKEA, simple and functional. The only problem was the blinds as the sun would come into our room by 6:30 am.
The Bathroom did not look renovated... things could be better here, but again, we were fine and it worked for us. Not a deal breaker.

Common Areas: 3,5* star
Pools, restaurants and bars were nice and appropriate. Some areas looked a bit dated, some were quite nice and renovated. We did find the service OK and people in general were nice to us.
By the lobby there were 2 pc’s with internet free of charge. There was also a book shelf with books for reading which was nice, as I did forget my book back home.

Food: 4*
Less variety compared to other AI’s, but very tasty and with home-made feel. It was quite good. Lots of fresh fish daily.
The only problem was the line ups in the main buffet for lunch and dinner... as the food was put in a continuous line, people tended to do a big queue and pass over everything even for food they were not looking for. The hotel should put the salads in a separate island and should enable people to take food from both sides, in order to avoid the lines.
We found the food at “Flor de Sal” to be quite good too.
As for the rest, we can only say good things about our escape to Sal. Recapitulating, nice people, tasty food, good vibe.
We did an Island Tour with Dany Lopes which we recommend. He is a certified guide and parks his car near the beach at Hotel Belorizonte. Explained things on the way and gave us time to walk around and do our things (if you prefer shopping you can go or if you prefer like us to stroll or bath in the Salinas or Buracona he will do as you prefer and stay time enough).

We will definitely return to Cabo Verde and Oasis Belorizonte or the new Salinas (5* not yet opened) will definitely be on our list.
Will be happy to answer questions if any.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2013

It was my fourth time in Belorizonte and I will always return. This time we stayed at one of the renovated bungalows just in front of the beach and we loved it. People going to Sal (Cape Verde) must realize this is Africa, not Europe, not America. Cockroaches and flies live there before us, just like lions live in the mainland; I do not go to Paris expecting to see lions. The sense of time in Africa is different (hopefully!) and yes, sometimes, things take longer to be done according to European standards. But I go there in vacations (mainly to dive) so, these kind of things do not bother me; room was always clean, food is very nice, I love the bungalow atmosphere and people is so nice and friendly. Yes, internet is very expensive and very slow.
If you like diving, pay a visit to Manta Center just outside the hotel. You’ll get the best Sal has to offer; its wonderful underwater scenery and life guided by the best divemasters!

Room Tip: Ask for a superior bungalow near the beach

The natural environment itself is the secret of this place but nothing else. Once you have arrived you will slowdown automatically and forget the European rush, including your busy work and also the infrastructure partially. Which is not negative at all if you really want to rest up yourself and do not want to stick on your mobile phone. (there is not many mobile network available with the exception of T-mobile)
Service:
Friendly and smiley staff without having any stress. Most likely they will not speed up if you need a glass of water urgently before you dry out completely.
Breakfast and dinner buffets are OK and ample in variety especially for those who loves seafood dishes. Only the selection of bakery products and fresh vegetable is weak.
Regular bungalow are not really big but spacious enough for two.
Cleaning of our accommodation was at the satisfactory level. I also would improve the maintenance services a bit. (i.e. adjusting TV channels, tighten screws etc. / all small thing...)
The hotel beach is beautiful, amazing white sand...
All in all everything was fine during our stay.

Room Tip: If possible go for the bungalows which are based at middle of the hotel territory where you will see...
