It is one of the best hotel in the region, but you must remember that you are in Africa.
The owner is a kind french man, really nice and reliable. The staff is serious and committed (but has its African times). Anyway they are serious and really reliable. It is a very safe place.
Beach is nice, with a fashinating and romantic fishermen village just behind the hotel.
Room 1 and 2 and (i suppose) 13 and 14 are the most "beach front". But some rooms are old and others are renovated with highest standards. I suggest you to book those rooms, the rooms near the swimming pool. Those are a bit more expancive but are very differen form the common rooms.
Swimming pool is a nice plus of the place. Excellent for relaxing. it is clean.
People in general are fliendly in the area, and the hotel is a point of reference for several business man, cooperation staff and tourist.
Beach bar has drinks and music. Time to time there is a kind of Disco there. on the week-enddinner piano bar.

I stayed here on my second trip to Grand Popo with a group of students studying abroad. There are a range of rooms, from small cottages with two stories (upper one being a loft) to more basic rooms with a pair of double beds. My friends who stayed in the cottages were initially thrilled, but had several problems with water pipes breaking during their stay, and were disappointed to learn that turning on the AC incurs an additional fee. Those of us who stayed in the double rooms were very content (each room opened onto a shared balcony). The food in the restaurant was good (overpriced by Benin standards, but not expensive by American standards). The beach is very accessible and beautiful and the pool is a pleasant option as well. The hotel has guards who roam the grounds at night, making it safe to sleep on the open beach which was a wonderful experience that I would highly recommend. Only drawback of this beautiful location was that it was a bit removed from town so if you do not have your own transportation and chose to eat somewhere other than the hotel's restaurant, be prepared to walk a bit. The walk into town is well worth it for some delicious local cuisine (I'd highly recommend the cheese sauce over rice anywhere you can find it!).

The best part was the fishing village near the resort, watching them go out in the morning and come back in the afternoon. The food was good. The electricity went out both nights but they had lanterns readily available.

We, four friends, spent four nights in the hotel Awale Plage.
The hotel itself is very nice with a fantastic garden, a beautiful beach and a refreshing and clean pool. The location is a little bit outside of the center of Grand Popo (about 2 km), but you can use the zems to go to the major restaurants.
The food of hotel’s restaurant is very tasteful and probably one of the best in Grand Popo. However the prices for drinks and the breakfast are more expensive than those of restaurants outside of the hotel.
Unfortunately the service of the hotel is very poor (also in comparison to other hotels in Benin). You have to wait several hours to get a toilet paper, room service is only done after you request it several times. It seems that the responsibilities among the personal are not clear.
The family bungalow for four adults is too small. We recommend getting two double rooms instead of one family bungalow.

It was like an oasis in the middle of the poorness. Since we were working the whole week at a hospitalship and were around so many sad things, it was so good to have at least a few days to forget about the poorness and sickness.
