“Dirty, Smelly, and Ugly”

Fallside Hotel and Conference Center

Oct 5, 2007

A last minute change in plans required me to spend three nights in Niagara Falls, NY recently. I took a chance on the Fallside Hotel and Conference Center, since the more well-known hotels were already booked. What a dump! The whole place smelled of mold and mildew from the moment you entered the lobby. I had to wait to check in because the room was "being cleaned". Really? You could not prove it by the piles of dust everywhere when I checked in. Also the drapes were badly torn and the tub was worn and filthy. If I had not been there on business, and if I had not prepaid through Orbitz I would never have stayed. On checkout I told the desk clerk that I was amazed that they were still in business...her reply was; "So am I"! I travel on business at least twice a month and have done so for more than twenty years, and this is one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in.

“Good location, very friendly staff”

We used the coupon in the Room Saver book which was no problem to use. There were lots of rooms available. The hotel is in need of repair, but it served our purpose. It was close to everything, and very easy to get around from there. The room was clean, and the pool was really nice. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. We did not get a free breakfast. It was $7.50 a person and not worth that so we did not eat there. We only stayed one night.

“Fallside should clean up”

Fallside Hotel and Conference Center

We visited Niagara Falls over July 4th. After reading up reviews, it seemed like all the hotels at Niagara Falls leave a lot to be desired in terms of cleanliness and basic hygene. We chose Fallside as a possible 'best-among-the-bad' candidate and it kept up with the trend of unclean/unhygenic hotels. Our room had a very musty smell and cobwebs on the ceiling.. Tho' we had a river view room, the balcony door wouldn't open and anyway it seemed so dirty, we didn't want to step out . Under the bed was stuff discarded by previous guests - looks like they never look or clean under the beds. The advantages of the hotel is that the falls are easily walkable from here and that their morning breakfast was decent (we had to get coupons from the front desk for this). They had a pool also, but given the condition of our room, I wouldn't have stepped into it for love or money. I don't understand why the hotels don't try to do better at such a major tourist spot!

Absolutely vile establishment...the outdated decor will be the least of your problems here. This hotel is rundown, filthy, and just generally unpleasant to be in. We encountered the same issues as other guests - bathrooms that hadn't been cleaned, hair on supposedly clean linens, and most importantly, heat that didn't work. Anywhere. In any of the three rooms we were occupying. Some rooms smell musty, others reak of cigarette smoke. Word is that Doubletree is taking over, gutting and renovating the place. Until then, stay away. Far, far away. Or perhaps at the Hampton Inn across the street.

“Worst hotel I have EVER seen”

I'm currenly sitting inside of this hotel, and I'm scared to get inside of the extremely uncomfortable ancient bed. The room had to be moved, because it was FILTHY and the heat didn't work (we're local and we needed to get warm and escape the snowstorm...we have no heat or power, and almost half a million other people don't either. Somehow, the falls wasn't affected).
The second room was still a disaster. The bathroom hadn't been cleaned, the floor wasn't vacuumed, there is hair on the sheets, along with numerous holes, the bathtub is moldy, and there are puke and poo stains on the bathroom wall. I also found a food covered fork next to the bed. We called housekeeping, and one guy came with a bucket and a spraybottle... he didn't accomplish much. The bathroom is still a disgrace.
The front desk woman was overwhelmed, as she was totally alone and had a line of six people in front of her. Needless to say, she can try all she wants, but she won't be able to be friendly and do a good job under those conditions.
Oh, and I can hear EVERYTHING in the surrounding rooms and in the hallway. Also, the hallway smelled like pee, and the walls were visibly caving in and showing water damage.

So, it's either freeze at home, or risk getting scabies. Thanks fallside hotel for making the worst snowstorm in Buffalo in recent years even more unpleasant than it needs to be.
