“Great Views and a real Sense of Place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 22, 2012

This is an old Site not especially well kept but the House itself is very intertesting and the grounds are lovely overlooking the beautiful Hudson River. The Minuteman State is imposing and the kids love the chance to run around the grounds a bit.Worth the trip !

We visited on our way to FDR's home. It was informative and well kept. Definitely worth the trip for a history buff.

“Washington Headquarters”

A step back in time. Great fun history lesson for young and old alike. Cozy restaurants are available for lunch on Liberty Street directly across from Hqtrs. I took my wedding photos here the view is breathtaking of the Hudson River.

“A Good Reason to Make Newburgh, New York a Part of Your Trip Upstate”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2010

I stayed in Newburgh a few weeks ago as a base for a trip hiking in the region upstate. There is unfortunately little that brings a tourist to Newburgh - however, there is at least one area absolutely worth visiting if you're in the Newburgh / Beacon area--if you enjoy a bit of history.... The Washington Headquarters sits near the Hudson River in Newburgh. It is one of the places (and I believe the longest one) that George Washington encamped during the Revolutionary War...what's there? -- a musuem, the actual "mansion" that he stayed in, and a park. There is a tour of the house that explains the history fo the house and how Washington and his encampment lived in those days. This proved a fun worthwhile morning. If you are in the area, for example going to DIA in Beacon, check ahead for the tour of GW's house. The house and the tour made the visit worthwhile. Plan for a couple hours perhaps...

Also, there is a good cafe on one of the corners outside the park that serves good bakery items...AND, there is a whole strip of restaurants (also outside the Park) on the Hudson River that is a hotspot at night (albeit young) with a good place to go walking in the evening.

With this in mind, one can easily spend a fun morning or afternoon in Newburgh - and if you're near Newburgh at night, makes a good hotspot for an evening meal.
