We have been coming to New Paltz area from NYC almost every weekend for the past 12 months because we bought a holiday house not far away. We love the area but have been disappointed with the culinary landscape. In general, New Paltz restaurants are truly terrible (including almost all of those recommended on trip advisor) and after trying a few restaurants we gave up and just ate at home. Then someone told us that the old Harvest Cafe (which was mediocre) had been replaced by the much better Bridge Creek Cafe. We gave it a try and were quite impressed: very inventive menu, interesting salads (try the Kale Ceasar with cranberries), terrific burger (made from happy cows from nearby farm), small and simple but decent wine list, delicious desserts. This place deserves 5 stars (in its category) even by manhattan standards. (If you're from the city: it's comparable to Market Table in the West Village).
