“Still Waiting For Our Drink Order To Be Taken”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2014

We went to the Village Tea Room, as per the recommendation of the hotel where we staying. My girlfriend called ahead of time and made a reservation for 6:45PM. We actually arrived early around 6:30PM and were squeezed into a small table in the back corner of the dining room, at which time they gave us dinner menus and two glasses of water.

Another couple, who did not have reservations came in shortly after our arrival and was seated at a prime table right by the window. There were two comfortable tables available that were not being used, but were not given to parties of two just in case a foursome showed up. None did and we continued to wait.

Within minutes, the other couple ordered a bottle of wine. I know this because their bottle of wine was accidentally delivered to our table, by which I believe, was the owner. She didn’t even inquire if we needed anything. At this point no one had even come by to take our drink order, including the owner. After 25 minutes of my girlfriend and I being ignored, we watched, in disbelief, the waitress take the dinner order of the other couple. She never turned around to acknowledge us. At 7:00PM we walked out of the restaurant.

Although I cannot comment about the food, the menu did look interesting. However, the service was not only bad, it was non-existent. In our opinion, service is the cornerstone of a good restaurant. The Village Tea Room sadly disappointed.

P.S. The restaurant had my girlfriend’s cell number – but never called to inquire why we left.

“Great food!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2014

Village TeaRoom is amazing! Their foods is absolutely delicious. Very fresh and very flavorful. The wait staff was very kind though were a little slow on service. Would definitely recommend to visit, but only if you have time to sit. Not one of those eat and get out restaurants.

“Out of bread and seemed relieved that we left”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2014

Granted, we did attempt to eat near their closing time, but the waitstaff seemed nonplussed that we were there and after seating us and leaving us for a few minutes, came to tell us that most of the menu was off-limits because they were out of bread.

We were actually a little relieved ourselves, because the menu was not at all what we were expecting for a tearoom and we were re-thinking our decision to eat there.

We didn't actually eat so I can't rate the food, but we did get some deserts to go, including the gluten-free chocolate one, and they were all excellent.

“Nice for informal meetings”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2014 via mobile

Good place to go to share a pot of tea with a friend. Scones and muffins are good adds to the tea. Did eat lunch here once, great grilled cheese, a bit pricey for what you get. Prefer the option for breakfast. Give it a try!

“Small Gem of a Bakery and Restaurant in New Paltz”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 16, 2014

Just a short walk south of Main Street on Plattekill Avenue, heading toward the College, the Village Tea Room is an excellent choice for breakfast, lunch, tea, or dinner. I often, as in just about every week at least once, go first thing in the morning to buy the best scones and muffins for breakfast. There are many other bakery items as well, deserts for the rest of the day's meals.
This is also a very good place to have a quiet morning meeting. The coffee is very good; the breakfast fritatta is excellent.
We have had lunch and dinner so many times, I have lost count and they have also catered events at our home six or seven times. The meals show a slight nod towards Ireland, (Agnes Devereaux, the chef is from Erin) with staples like Dingle pies and plowman's lunch, but the options are much wider than that. The turkey pot pie and the "big bowl" of chicken soup are excellent, as are the salads. There are interesting sandwiches and fine hot dishes. There is always a smoked salmon option and at least one other fish dish and there is always at least one vegan soup and a vegan lunch or dinner. The roast chicken is perfect. While I have not eaten steak at the TeaRoom, I have had the short ribs which I love and others have told me that their steak is delicious.
Back to deserts: Agnes is a superior baker and it shows in the pastry case. You may think you know what a cream puff is but hers are superb; the cakes are beautiful to look at, always interesting and delicious. The beehive cake by itself is worth the trip to the TeaRoom.
There is always also a nice wine list and of course there are other drinks as well, including some fun sodas and juices.
In sum, the Village TeaRoom is a restaurant for fine dining in a very relaxed environment. It is a good enough reason to move to New Paltz
