Owner description: Historic Huguenot Street is where this funky and fabulous town began. In 1678, a small band of French-speaking Huguenots set out to create a place of their own. They named that community New Paltz. Today, six-acre this National Historic Landmark District preserves their charming stone houses, all of which are open to the public. Central to the site is the DuBois Fort Visitor Center, built in 1705. Today it houses exhibition galleries, a Museum Shop and offers a shady spot to sit and enjoy. Grounds open and special programs offered year-round. Walk-in guided tours offered May through October every day except Wednesday. Also offered on weekends in November and December.

“Lucky me”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2013

I'm lucky enough to live nearby this quiet street. A perennial favorite, with beautiful views. too. A short stroll to the Harcourt Nature Sanctuary, too.

“Interesting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012

We walked up and down the street on a rainy Tuesday and had a great time. There were no tours that day but armed with an internet site on the phone, the paper map from the visitor center and the signs in front of each house we were able to learn quite a bit. Unfortunately we weren't able to go inside but did peak through some windows. Interesting for history buffs.

“Real history”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2012

Visit stone houses built over 300 years ago. Our tour guide loved the history of the original families.

This is a nicely restored area to visit a restored section of the original New Paltz. If you're in the area be sure to visit the area.

“A Real Experience with History”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2012

These are not "Disney Recreations". These are the original homes of the settlers who came to the New Paltz area. They are filled with history and have interesting backgrounds. It is worth bring children to experience these homes, but adults learn a lot as well.
