“Great getaway!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2012

I surprised my wife with a one-night stay at the Vagabond Inn last weekend. I chose it based on the website and other reviews. My first impression upon arrival was that the website just didn't do the place justice. We found the building and grounds to be well maintained, clean, and beautiful. Patti and Elliott are gracious hosts and we couldn't be happier with the time we had there. The Wisteria Suite was great and we can't wait to return!

Room Tip: Wisteria Suite- Great views and outdoor hot tub!

My husband and I just got back from a 4 day weekend (honeymoon) in The Lodge. We had such a relaxing, worry-free weekend. Everyone was very nice and helpful. It was like you were one of the family! It was clean and well kept! We will 100% be going there to stay again.

My husband and I were very excited when some good friends offered us their gift certificate for a night at the Vagabond Inn last minute. This was our first time at a bed and breakfast, and we did not know what to expect. There were some great things about the place, and some that really detracted from the experience.

Wins: The setting is beautiful. The leaves were just beginning to turn, and sunrise over "Italy Valley" was magnificent. It feels very secluded once you are on the property.

The common areas were enjoyable.

The bed was clean, very comfortable, and bedbug free (I pulled up everything to check.) We slept well.

Certain aspects of the service were good. Patti was very friendly. The guest kitchen was adequate. Breakfast (french toast with berries and sausage) was tasty.

Losses: Dishonesty. Our gift certificate stated it was for the Bristol suite. Our friends had it reserved. When we got there, Elliot (Patti's son) informed us that he got word just after we called that since our friends had called to cancel (they didn't, they simply informed him that someone would be coming in their stead) they had resold the room and we had to stay in another room. This means they got paid the rate of the most expensive suite twice, but put us in less of a room.

The room they gave us instead (fox and hound suite) was small and not well cared for: slight musty smell (room is in basement), spider and dead insects on and behind chairs and table, obvious layers of dust on furniture and in corners of floor, closet full of "stuff"(cots, space heater, etc), but no iron and board or robes. The "fireplace" advertised is an electric heater with flame simulation. The window had been left open on a chilly evening so the room was COLD. The bathroom is large, but the shower stall was VERY small. The outdoor hot tub also poses some inconvenience, as the room key does not open the door to outside, and they ask that you keep this door closed and locked. We were locked out at 7:30 a.m.

It is not quite as quiet and private as one might like. With the hot tub outside, fellow guests out smoking means your privacy and fresh air are up in smoke (though I had to forgive that because she let us back in.) You can also hear the t.v. through the walls and the family making breakfast early in the morning.

We thoroughly appreciated the kindness our friends showed us in treating us to a bed and breakfast, and there were some nice things about this one. We made sure we had a nice time. Perhaps many of our peeves would have been solved by staying in another suite. However, due to the fact that we felt their actions were dishonest, it is unlikely that we would stay there again to find out.

This is based upon customer service. A gift certificte we received for a high end room. When we realized that we weren't able to travel the day before due to health reasons we called to ask if we could reschedule or extend the gift certificate to another time. Since it had been done already for that gift certificate before we recieved it the gift certificate we were told we could not transfer the gift certificate for another night. Either come or we lose the gift certificate. Understood. So then we make the journey out there in bad health and found out that since we had tried to cancel the day before they sold that room that we had reserved underneath us and gave a us a smaller, lesser room in place of it. This place looked great to go to but Bad customer service left a bad taste in my mouth. It's not like they didn't get the money for the room up front. To give us a cheaper room in place of a room at least $100 more per night is simply unfair. And yes we did try to explain that my wife does have a serious health problem and that if we could we would make it out there. 4 THUMBS DOWN

Room Tip: Whatever room they will actually honor with a gift certificate

This was the first time we stayed at a B&B and had a great time. When we got there the first night we were greeted by the owners daughter who showed us around and let us upgrade our room. She was very friendly and answered all our questions. We went to dinner and when we got back we meet the owner and talked a little. The rooms are amazing and very clean. The day we got there is was very windy and we were told the pool was a mess and would be ready the next day. I laugh and told my wife its 65 outside why would they even clean it. But we woke up the next morning and the pool was spotless. We found the owner and the son and daughter very friendly. The only down side was not staying longer. We will be going back very soon.

We've stayed at the Vagabond Inn 3 different times and each time was in a different room. Each and every room is different and so luxurious! Our room was clean and inviting. The hot tub wonderful and the lap pool refreshing!
