“Sitting in The Dock”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2013

The Dock alone was worth the long journey out to Montauk, without my guide who had some local knowledge, I would not have found this out of synch gem. Good food, even better seafood, cooked as you can only find in so many midpriced American establishments, quantity is also not a problem and the service both at table and at the bar was excellent. The surroundings both outside and inside are almost unique, the ambience is top class and the '' house rules '' are to be admired. When in Montauk, seek it out, possibly in the wrong end of town but all the better for that

“As local as you can get”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2013

"The Dock" is hard to describe. It's a small restaurant tucked away near a commercial dock. Outside, you see a wheelchair, manequins hanging from the roof, a changed-daily-sign in the window insulting some local, and other odd items scattered about. Inside, more of the same - shrunken heads, medals/awards of the proprietor, funny pictures and comments about locals. The lighting is very dim, which makes it a perfect place to sit in the corner by yourself and have a beer and a burger. The wait staff is fast and attentive, but they don't bother you too much, which is great. Legend has it that owner George Watson will get on the megaphone and yell at people who dare to talk on their cell phone while in his restaurant. Screaming children are also not welcome. Great! I went three times while I was in Montauk, had the cheese burger each time, and loved it. The prices are very reasonable for the area.

“You don't see em like this anymore”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2013 via mobile

Old Montauk is dying, but this place refuses to take part. Easily one if the best bar atmospheres that totally gets the old school New York and Long Island spirit. Not a place for everyone, especially the snooty privileged crowd envading the east end. If your the type that can sit back, shut up and enjoy the scenery and random odd decor while soaking in a local vibe, then go get some. This is place built by and for working class people. May the spirit live on.

“great! dive bar w/real seafood!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

No tourist hoards here. It looks and feels like a local dive bar. And it is. The bar crowd at night can get thick on the weekends, especially in the summer. But nobody is coming for the atmosphere. The seafood is always fresh (local fishermen eat at the bar here regularly) and simply, but expertly prepared. I have never had better steamed mussels ANYWHERE. Terrific fried fish sandwiches and grilled fish. And you can even get a really good burger or spinach salad. Simple fare, reasonably priced. So skip the dock around the corner where the tourists are lining up..As noted by others, The Dock is not kid friendly (no boosters, highchairs, or even strollers accommodated). Leave them home unless they are well behaved (seen and not heard). Besides, you may just want to focus on the ice cold beer, crazy good bloody marys and fried seafood. The Dock's motto is "think globally, drink locally."

“Great Food for a Great Price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2012

I ate here 3 times while staying in Montauk, the food was very good and reasonably priced. Check out the autographed picture of OJ Simpson hanging on the wall in the mens bathroom......
