Where do I begin..I never even got the chance to stay there and had a problem. I'll try to make it brief. Was visiting in Montauk and stopped in to see if certain dates were available. I met Diane (who I might add had absolutely no personality whatsoever, I tried to make conversation with her and she was very cut and dry almost to the point of being quite rude ) I gave her two week-ends that I asked about and I told her that I would be in-touch if these dates were ok with my fellow travelers. I was told about the 5 day deposit limit and understood clearly what it meant. I never got back to them because the dates were not good for the people I was traveling with, that was at the end of June. Than on July 8trh I called to make a reservation once again, we booked the dates for July 26 - 27 & 28th, which worked out fine. That evening I put a check in the mail for 1/2 of the deposit and sent it out on July 9th.Well, I and my traveling friend put in for our days off from work and on this past Wednesday evenning, 7/18 there is a message from "Diane" probably one of the rudest persons I have ever spoken with. She leaves me a message (while chewing on something) stating that my check was not received until that day, the 18th and my reservation was cancelled & my check was put back in the mail. You can imagine my HORROR, we had planned for this week-end and were so looking forward to it so I immediately called and spoke with a man who was just as rude and not the least bit accomodating. I was told he could do nothing...I would have to call back in the morning, which I did and finally got to speak with "Diane". Again I was told my check was not received in time so it was being returned. Now I have already made plans, and she still insisted that there was nothing that she could do. I asked her why she didn't give me a call to tell me that the check was never received, after all, they did have a phone #, but that's not part of their policy... so I told her why don't you switch the person around that you gave my reservation to and she said that she had their check already. I again explained to her that perhaps my check was sitting in their PO Box, because I did send it out that next day. Personally, I feel that they gave my room out for a better rate because, than she said that she would give me a room downstairs for two nights and than move me upstairs for one night; however the rate was higher, which made no sense since originally I was staying upstairs for 3 nights in a larger room with the balcony and 2 double beds.At that point I told her I would mail back the check when I received it. That was not good, I was told that she would take a credit card....which is what I wanted to do at the VERY BEGINNING OF THIS FIASCO!!! So I gave her my card # to confirm the reservation( now this was Thursday morning 7/19). I was told that I had until Saturday, 7/21 to cancel or my card would be charged $300. Well, I made the reservation and immediately called other places, much nicer places and spoke with people that were not rude and extremely accomodating. Well, myself and my traveling partner will be going to Montauk this coming week-end but you can be ABSOLUTELY SURE we ARE NOT STAYING AT THE SANDS MOTEL. If anyone has any intentions of staying at the SANDS prepare yourself to speak with people that need lessons in dealing with the public. I have been going to Montauk for over 30 years now, and have never dealt with such RUDE, BUSINESS PEOPLE WHO's LIVELY-HOODS DEPEND ON THE TOURIST!!!!!!!!!!! and yes, they really do need to clean up there parking area!!! Oh, and BTW, I received my check back today, and it was postmarked 7/9/07 which I'm sure it was received in plenty of time.

This is in response to the person whose reservation was cancelled due to non receipt of deposit in a timely fashion.
All persons are advised when making their reservation that we allow five days from the day they make their reservation to receive a deposit. In actuality we allow six to seven days in case there is a problem with the mail. The person in this letter had made a reservation with us by phone for a one night stay in June. A deposit was never received. On the day that she was supposed to be staying with us for that day in June, she came into our office and made another reservation in person for a weekend in July. While taking her information (name, address etc.) it all sounded very familiar and I asked her if she had already made a reservation with us and she said no she had not. (After she left our office, I looked through our phone records to see that she HAD made a reservation for THAT day but had never sent a deposit). Subsequently, she made this next reservation which we held again for seven days and NEVER received a deposit. She then called again to make ANOTHER reservation for July 26; we held the reservations for six days and NEVER received the deposit! Her reservation was naturally cancelled especially due to her history of making reservations and not sending deposits.
Her request for us to cancel someone else out - who had sent their deposit - seemed unreasonable. We regret that we were not able to accommodate her after receiving her late deposit but we no longer had any vacancies for the dates she had requested.
