“Can't beat the location !”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2007

This is our second year of summer family vacation in Montauk and our first stay at the Royal Atlantic. Let's face it - Montauk is honky tonk compared to neighboring Hampton towns and that is just PERFECT if you are vacationing with your kids. We knew what to expect since our last stay was at a hotel next door and compared to that "joint", this was just perfect.
After reading all of the reviews, I was expecting the worst. OK - the room is not 5 star or even close, but it IS ON THE BEACH. Say no more. We come here from Connecticut for the beach, the surf and the ease of never wearing anything fancier than our flip flops for a week.
Our ocean front room didn't smell (like other reviewers said), the bathroom was small but clean and redone with new tiles and bath/shower. The small kitchenette was sufficient for our needs. The 2 double beds were ok for our stay. The best part was the deck with the million dollar view. Down a few steps to the sand and your "private" lounges. The free breakfast worked out just fine and it was nice to saunter out for a little meal after a cup of joe in your room.
The place is full of kids. Great for the little ones. The pool is a zoo with families during the day, but great for a swim after a long day in the surf. The ocean is of course spectacular. We hit some bad, read COLD and sometimes RAINY, weather, but the beach was still beautiful Great for walks, sand castles, kite flying and eveing bonfires/s'mores.
All in all the Royal Atlantic is what it is. A family hotel ON the beach in Montauk. Walk to stores, restaurants, the best bakery, homemade ice cream, and of course mini golf. Have a great time with your family and enjoy the laid back atmosphere.
If you want a relaxing quiet time...this isn't for you. If you want a great family beach destination - book now for 2008.

well..when we first arrived my little sister was all like ew theres green slime on the rug and i saw it and i was like ew..there is.. nasty. Then my other sister tried to simply enjoy the ocean view by going onto the porch..alas, when she opened the sliding screen door it collapsed and INJUREDD her head/neck/collarbone area. THEN...the shower door was crappy and broke like i mean the wheely thing fell off. THENNNNN the bathmat...well lets just say i thought it was a joke. a BAD joke because i didnt laugh. THEENN i got into a fight with my mom because the ocean washed away our only towels so we were left with NOTHING because this "hotel" only supplied what could only politely be reffered to as washcloths. THEEEEEENNNNN my mommy tried to unplug the refrigerator due to lack of SOCKETS and it burst into flames and it was just very bad because fire is dangerous. yes that is my montauk experinecee in a nutshell. oh yea and i broke my knee in the pool =(

the end!!! (haha, get it? the end is like the "saying" of montauk and it is also the last line of my story.)

I have been staying here for 8 years, this place must be under some new management, prices continue to increase and the place continues to decline. This is one of the most expensive places, yet, they do nothing to fix it up. They claim a $1 million in renovations??? The screen door on the terrace was rotted away and every day they proped it up to make it look like we had a screen, the "ocean view" could not be seen through the dirty windows, the rug had multiple stains and cigarette burns, the towels were like tissue paper and the bath match actually was tissue paper. When I go, I just want the beach and a place to shower & sleep, but I can no longer ignore how bad this place has become. The beach is beautiful, but I have spent my last dollar at Royal Atlantic, I have already booked down the block, 20 extra steps to the beach and half the price.

I stayed here in July with my wife in a one bedroom ocean view unit. We though we'd save a few bucks versus some of the more expensive options in the Montauk area - Big Mistake.

The room was absolutely filthy, with a bad smell and poor ventilation. It literally looked like it was last renovated in 1970. The "free" meal at the restaurant is nothing but a come on. There are long lines to be seated, and when you are, the portions are small, the service is poor, and many of the items you would order are on their full price menu.

The one positive, the proximity of the units to the ocean, is actually less of a positive than you'd think because the beach has dense, Coney Island like crowds, which makes it difficult to find a nice relaxing space, and at night (literally every night), there are young people on the beach running bonfires and lighting off fireworks within earshot of this place.

Unless you are ok with living in an unrelaxing dump on your vacation, do yourself a favor and stay at one of the nicer, more pricey options in the area (even if it means you can only stay fewer nights).

First of all what we booked is not what we got when we got there we had asked for ocean front and we had got across the street. So they scrambled to get us ocean front rooms that took two hours at the front desk. One room was okay on the second floor but the one on the first floor ocean front must have been a room that was never used because it was so decreped. As i walked in,besides the smell, the walls had all black marks all over them. The air conditioner didnt work, the stove was all rusty and stained, and the shower door fell off every time you used it.For the money they charge, they rip people off.The desk staff doesnt help you at all,and their no tissue boxes or bathroom cups. They give you small thin towels that dont even cover half your body. The whole place is run down on the outside.I would recommend no one to come to this place!

The view is amazing if you stay at the ocean side. Just seeing the view gave me a tinglily sansation in my stomach! I couldn't wait to get to the beach. You can get 1 breakfast meal for free! ( one dollar tip) If you go down to the beach and when you are faceing the ocean, go left all the way till the end. You can jog their or just walk thier and enjoy the view when you get to the very end, you can see all the star fish on the big rocks! It is very fun and exiting for kids all ages. My mom has ben going down every year and now it is like a family tradition

My husband and I stayed at the Royal Atlantic East 2 bedroom condo after a negative spa experience at Guerney's. The condo was nicely decorated and very clean. Unlike many accomodations in Montauk, it did not have a musty smell. The gas fireplace was a nice amenity . We ate our complimentary breakfast on the balcony overlooking the ocean. We lucked out and got unseasonably warm weather. The master bath even has an ocean view. I will be back.
