“great retreat from city life”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2008

In dire need of a break from city life, we spent four days at the Ocean Resort Inn. It was our first visit to Montauk and could not have been better.

Ginny made us feel right at home and had helpful suggestions for things to do in Montauk. Our room was extremely clean and comfortable; the staff obviously cares about doing a great job. We appreciated that Ginny had beach chairs, towels and umbrellas for guests to use. We spent some great hours at the quiet beach (right across the street) and truly enjoyed our stay. We've recommended this hotel to several friends, and we look forward to a return trip!

Stayed at ORI for the first time and loved it. Ginny, the owner, is such a special person and it was a pleasure to get to know her. The Inn is spotless and the cleaning staff REALLY cleaned the room every day . We stayed in room 10...second floor studio that was very spacious, comfortable queen bed and quiet. Had a nice partial view of the ocean which is a 2 minute walk across the street. Thanks, Ginny, for a great vacation.

My husband and I stayed for 3 nights in the upstairs queen jacuzzi for our anniversary and everyday was so wonderful we literally lost track of time!

Our room was in the corner next to the room with the ice machine so we had a lot of privacy, something we wanted and needed after our hectic lives in NYC. The room was immaculate and room maintenance was always kept at its highest standards by the wonderful maids that came each morning. We fell in love with the fleece blanket that we would drag from the bed to the sofa to cuddle up and watch a movie that we were so tempted to take it with us!

We also loved our location. We were literally across the street from the beach and a 2 minute walk to the wonderful town. We couldn't have asked for more.

The staff at the inn were so courteous to us and helped us out so much especially since it was our first time visiting Montauk.

This is THE place to stay if you're looking for a personal, quiet, romantic getaway! We love it and we'll defenitely be back next year!

Great place to stay for a decent rate! The recent poster who noted that CC is not accepted is absolutely WRONG! Of course they accept credit cards....

The hotel is "old school" motel style in-line with most of the hotels in this area. Our room looked recently updated and perfectly clean. From making our reservation right up to checking-in the hotel manager, Ginny was great! There is no pool at this hotel and instead she maintains a beautiful center court area covered in beautiful flowers. The hydrangeas, which are my favorite, were gorgeous! There are picnic tables and bbqs and its a nice place to sit after coming home from the beach. The entrance to the beach was right across the street which was very convenient. Having no pool was a good thing -- for us it meant few/no kids on the property and we were there celebrating our anniversary. This hotel was also a short walk to Main Street which makes the location just perfect

I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone -- though if you are pretentious and looking for a "chain hotel" you should stop in the Hamptons and stay there...

This year was our fourth staying at Ocean Resort Inn. Each year has been perfection! I can't say enough great things about the hotel, the location and Ginny, the proprieter. We have recommended this hotel to family and friends, and everyone has 100% thrilled with their time at Ocean Resort Inn. I cannot wait to return for next summer's vacation at ORI!

I have never been treated more rudely then from Ginny the hotel owner/manager. What a nightmare!!!!!!!! Stay away from this property if you are use to being treated like a human being and not something on the bottom of someones show!! All this and they dont take credit cards. Its no wonder they demand FULL payment up front...... because people run screaming otherwise upon meeting nightmarish Ginny.

  • Disliked — everything especially that they were paid and full in advance

After spending a week each summer for the past decade at the Panoramic View, which is now being converted into condos, I was not looking forward to finding a new place to stay in Montauk. While its rooms were dated, its location and views are truly breathtaking. It didn't take long to begin to unwind and relax.

In years past, we have also booked short last-minute stays at Gurney's Inn, the Montauk Yacht Club, the Surf Club, the Royal Atlantic condos, Lenhart's and two surprisingly filthy but not inexpensive motels right on the beach in town. For various reasons already described in detail on this site, I wasn't eager to return to any of these places. So last week when I decided to spend a few days unwinding by myself in Montauk, I turned to TripAdvisor, read glowing reviews about the site's #1-rated place--the Ocean Resort Inn--and booked three nights. The reviews very accurately describe Ginny, the motel's owner--she's a gem! Dealing with her was a pleasure--she and her staff will provide you with whatever you need--whether it's a recommendation for a restaurant, a massage or a request for a beach chair, umbrella or towels. They clearly care about making each guest's stay a pleasant one.

Ginny has somehow created the feel of a quaint inn on a strip of otherwise undistinguished beach motels. This is truly the cleanest place I've ever stayed at in Montauk--and that counts for a lot. Its rooms are renovated and very comfortable--many have jacuzzis. The outdoor courtyard of loungers, picnic tables and beautifully tended shrubs and flowers makes it a great place to read and relax. And with the ocean just across the street and most everything you might want or need in walking distance, I have found my new haven in the East End.
