5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2013

My partner and I had been trying to go to Ruschmeyer's on several weekends but were held up twice with our 4 year old deciding to get sick! Sasha was overly generous and gracious as we cancelled not once but twice until finally we were able to head out one Sunday morning for an overnight stay. Once we arrived we were greeted with a big hello and welcome, offered coffee and breakfast and were told that our room would be ready in the afternoon. We didn't even care as we wanted to get to the beach. When we returned our room was ready and we settled in. Shortly after our air conditioner seemed to be not working and within 2 minutes of informing the team we had a maintenance man fix it. Very impressive. The grounds were great; swings, ping pong etc. all made for a great escape for us and for our very active 4 year old. We will definitely be back next season.....no doubt!!

Friends and I were lucky enough to snag Lucky 13 - the amazing two-room suite - at Ruschmeyer's for a weekend escape from the city. The decor was perfect for the beach - sexy and simple. The staff, especially at the front desk, was charming and helpful. The campus was gorgeous. The drinks were delicious. We had dinner at the restaurant and each dish was better than the last. Basically, it was the ideal getaway experience.

Highly recommended if you prefer basic beach fun to high-rise resorts.

A few friends and I were looking to get away from the city for the weekend, so we drove out to Montauk. Ruschmeyer's was the perfect escape! Upon pulling up to the property our whole energy changed to that of relaxation and worry free! We hung out on the lawn, played ping pong, drank and ate amazing food. I highly recommend the Clam Pizza and Lobster Mac n Cheese. The staff were very attentive and personalized our stay with a perfectly chilled bottled of Rose waiting for us in the room. I highly recommend going to Ruschmeyers!

Room Tip: Seriously... have the Clam Pizza!

Rucshmeyer's exceeded our expectations of a 'camp style' hotel. Super clean, minimalist rooms with painted wood floor, fridge, air con/heater and good size flat screen TV. A large comfy bed for us and an ample sized day bed made up for the kids. If we were to be picky about anything the shower room was on the small side and the walls were pretty thin (we were lucky to have had considerate neighbours during our stay but during a weekend in peak season we understand it's party time and can get noisy! ...) We ate complimentary breakfast on picnic tables outside in the garden and spent a lovely evening in the bar and restaurant - both the bar tender and chef were knowledgeable and took time to chat to 'us foreigners'. Food was great although the menu wasn't extensive - only 2 pudding options when we were there?! The kids loved the ping pong tables, bubbles and the tree swing. What makes Rucshmeyer's special (apart from it's location) is it's sense of ease; from the super friendly and helpful staff (beach towels and a beach parking permit no problem) to the quirky decor to the retro bikes you can borrow... it's so relaxed it's horizontal!

Room Tip: Ask for a room furthest from the bar!

Staff was a complete joke with the exception of a very professional front desk manager and a lovely Australian woman. Remainder just hung out in front of guests and talked about all the work they had to do rather than keeping it behind the scenes and actually doing it! Requesting basic things felt like a total imposition as it meant they had to get off their Instagram and actually work. Extremely inhospitable experience to guests (and all the guests noticed and were very annoyed).

Clearly service this bad doesn't merit the very high price point.

Rooms are simple and nicely decorated. Bathrooms are far too small and need an upgrade to justify the hefty prices. Don't expect to sleep if your room is near the restaurant as it is a lively scene.

Would rank third after surf lodge (amazing rooms, scene and right on water) and then sole east (has a pool).

Ruschmeyers is located conveniently close to the downtown Montauk. Rooms (Deluxe Queen) are pretty big compared to other hotels in the area, clean and comfortable. There is even a hammock chair in the room. The new restaurant run by the team behind The Smile in NYC is delivering great food with local ingredients at a decent price. Staff is friendly but keep in mind this is not a full service hotel. Yes, the bar gets pretty loud on the weekends, but this is the place to be if you want to have fun in a laid back environment. Bike rentals and breakfast are complimentary for hotel guests which is also a plus. Definitely looking forward to returning to Ruschmeyers soon!

I was there for business in August, so I wasn't paying, but it was pretty expensive. I think everything out there in August is expensive though! We had a great time at the reggae lounge and a delicious dinner in the restaurant. The rooms are small but very clean and well done - very nice bed linens. My only real complaint was the sullen staff, it was pretty funny at times. The waitress really seemed to dislike us. But oh well. It was a fun place to stay.
