“Left Hungry”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 29, 2012 via mobile

I was so excited to try this place based on the reviews. However, I was left disappointed. The night we went was fairly quiet, three tables and some people at the bar. Based on the amount of people there, the service was slow. My husband's water stood empty as the waitress passed by several times, finally when we asked her for more, she grabs the pitcher and puts it on our table. When it was time to leave, it was literally about 10-15 minutes before she brought the credit card slip out to sign. I had the grilled shrimp platter which the shrimp were good but the broccoli was over cooked. My husband had the lobster ravioli for $24, although it was good there was not enough of it. My husband (a fit, 6 ft man) was left hungry and we ended up getting more food when we left. It would have been nice if soup or salad came with the meal. Disappointed.

“A truly BAD meal”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2012

This was supposed to be THE seafood meal for our family reunion.
My little grandchildren ordered the mac and cheese. It was CLEARLY out of the blue box.
My elderly mother had ordered the Lobster Mac and Cheese and it was the same dish. . . so we asked for a replacement.

The steamers tasted OFF. A few of us had an "off" tasting clam and did not eat any more.
The fried clams were completely dry and overcooked. . . not even a shred of clam flavor.

We told our server that we were very unhappy with our meals and she apologized and told the chef/owner. He sent his card out and told the server to let us know that when we return, "he'll take care of us". WHAT??? How about "taking care of us" right then and there?
We will NOT be returning for reruns.

Here's the kicker... ten minutes after leaving the restaurant, my son in law pulled over to the side of the road and got sick.

We would like to address your issues one at a time here since very little was said in person during your visit to your establishment

- The mac n cheese is most certainly not "out of the blue box".
- Yes, lobster mac n cheese IS mac n cheese, with chunks of lobster meat baked into the dish. Your order was changed before the dish was even served.
- We use the old-fashioned method of steaming the clams in beer, one not familiar with this may simply not know what steamer clams taste or smell like. The plates were empty when cleared from the table.
- The fried clams were indeed smaller than usual, so the full bellies did not produce as much moisture as is typical. We are at the mercy of Mother Nature on this one and always ensure our seafood products are the freshest. Clams do have seasons and are subject to local water conditions.
- Our server asked the party numerous times how everything was. Not a bad word was spoken until AFTER the bill was paid. It appears obvious that when another member joined the party late, he/she was not happy with the bill and wanted a free ride. Sadly, many restaurants on the East End see this all too often in the summer months.

Here's the kicker, after reading your review, we contacted the Dept. of Health to inform them of this very serious accusation. Fortunately, we discovered that food borne illness from seafood DOES NOT happen in 10 minutes. It's more like 2-6 hours. Further, how could one get sick if "a few had off-tasting clams and did not eat any more"? As previously stated, the shellfish was completely consumed. A bit of a contradiction on the story line here.

Again, we take all complaints seriously. This is the first time in three years that someone has complained (either through a review or in person or otherwise) about feeling ill after eating seafood at the Cross Eyed Clam. The handling of fresh seafood is strictly mandated by the Dept. of Health. We are required to keep all tags that come on the bushels for a minimum of 90 days after purchase, for just this purpose.

“Personal attention, beautiful marina location, and laid-back atmosphere are perfect for a nice summer day!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2011 via mobile

Came here for a birthday celebration with family that were in Montauk for the day in late august. We were looking for great clam chowder, but this place serves great drinks and amazing seafood, as well as non-seafood options too for those who won't eat seafood. Everything was wonderful!
