“Great location, high prices, and that's it.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 25, 2010

Stayed with group of 8 in Skipper's cabin, with waves crashing 100 ft below us. Absolutely awesome location and view. Everything else about the place shouts of mediocrity, which translates into very poor value given the prices. The place needs a new manager and some significant renovations. Stay away.

Recently attended the Psychic /Wellness Fair at Gurney's. What a wonderful time. From the valet to the busboy everyone couldn't have been nicer. The spa was wonderful & the indoor salt water pool overlooking the surf was spectacular. Drinks at the bar and dinner was also very good (hint - order the seafood- they said it was local) they even had a live band off season. Stayed at one of their cottages right on the beach which was fabulous - sunned on a private deck while listening to the waves. I had a GREAT time. Can't wait to go back with the family.

This hotel has a great location but it needs a major renovation. The rooms are old and tired, cheap bedding and fraying carpet. Everything just needs a major overhaul. It could be amazing but they need to put some money into the place, especially with the rates they are charging.

Hotel prices are as high as any luxury beach resort in the Northeast (for example, Chatham Bars Inn on the Cape and The White Elephant on Nantucket) and, as a result, create certain expectations. While the view of and location on the beach are outstanding, the rest of the experience fails to live up to expectations.

Staff are pleasant and hard working but lack any training in hospitality.

Food/wine are mediocre. Long Island wines are an after-thought and, based on the menus, you would have no idea that farms exist in Long Island.

Except for bathrooms, there seems to have been little (if any) money invested in the property since the 1970's and bathrooms are only comparable to any Courtyard by Marriott.

Loved the location and Montauk, but extremely disappointed by the hotel. I have to believe there are bed & breakfasts in the area that would be significantly nicer.

Stayed there March 6-8, 2010 and heard some great things about the place; however, we were not that impressed with the rooms or the overall quality of the facility. The rooms were dated, the TV lacked the full spectrum of cable channels that the hotel listed that we would have, the walls/ceilings were paper thin (normal walking from the people above us sounded like an 800 lbs person was walking), and most importantly, the bed was VERY uncomfortable with various body parts going numb quickly with minimal time on the bed. We did the spa and we were disappointed to find out that the pricey treatments were in very small rooms with paper thin doors that transmitted all the noise from the busy hallway. The food was good, but very pricey for the quality. The staff seemed friendly and accomidating with our concerns. The location was the best part of the stay.

Listen, this place is not cheap. They charge top dollar and really, you are only paying for the beach front. The restaurant is no great shakes. The rooms are decorated with cheap furniture and cheap bedding. There is nothing luxury about this place. The spa experience was a joke...treatments (which are TOP dollar $165 for a 60 minute facial) were in a room off of the salon. So the entire time you are getting your treatment, you can hear blow dryers and conversations...very "relaxing". There are just so many details being ignored...from the cheap shampoos and soaps in the rooms to the dark decor in the lobby. Lastly, try to get some help with your bags. Chances are you'll need to climb two dozen steps to get to your room and lug your own bags the whole way ...hire more staff! Needs a MAJOR renovation.

Stayed for a few nights just to relax and enjoy the serenity. We were treated most attentively. The ocean views were spectacular. The restaurants and staff we enjoyed. We didn't have to leave the compaund for anything. The SPA is both relaxing and energizing. To listen to the ocean while reading or whatever is what we all need to recharge our batteries. Look forward to going again someday.
