“Old school italian restaurant. Large portions. Great value.”
We were passing through the area and decided to be adventurous and give this restaurant a try based on tripadvisor reviews rather than going to some chain restaurant. The surrounding area is a bit run down so we were somewhat hesitant, but in the end we were happy with our choice. The restaurant had the old school Italian feel and dated look that we were expecting.
We lucked into their Wednesday night special and got a cup of soup, a salad, an entree and dessert for $17. The entrees were large and everything (Penne Vodka & Chicken Marsala) was quite tasty so it was a great deal. I think we left with more food than we ate. We also got a gigantic caraffe of wine for around the same price.
Some of the other reviews slammed the service at this restaurant. Although we really didn't care since we had plenty of wine to drink, our water glasses did sit empty the whole time. Our waiter completely ignored them. Also, the service wasn't exactly fast considering we were one of their few tables. In their defense, they literally hung a sign over the kitchen door that says "Good Food Takes Time," so they're not claiming speedy service. We also showed up rather late on a Wednesday night, so they could have already been in the process of closing down the kitchen. Regardless, I suspect that service speed might be an issue on a busy night, so set your expectations accordingly.
If we had had time I would have liked to check out The Switch Inn across the street, which looked like a dive bar so it was calling my name!
