“Preskil Beach Resort”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 19, 2014

We spent ten days in the resort and enjoyed the stay very much. The level of service is very high staff are great. If you are into water sports it is a very good resort to stay at. Glass bottom boat is a highlight of the resort, an added bones. Ile aux Aigrettes is a stones throw away and is well worth a visit. The food was of a very good standard through out are stay. So over all an excellent resort.

We stayed from 01 Jan for our two week honeymoon. The further into the trip we got, the quieter the resort, yet never had an issue to get a sun bed there is always ample.

We chose the All Inclusive option, which worked really well for us, so chose to eat in the steak house & tapas bar (which is not a Spanish tapas bar as you would expect) quite a lot. We were actually impressed by the food, both in the buffet 'Spices' restaurant & in each of the others. The steaks in 'Charka' were lovely & the food and presentation in the tapas restaurant was excellent. Really good daily choice in the buffet restaurant and a rotated evening theme.

Several areas really let Preskil down and it is much better placed at a 3star, it is not a 4star hotel and we were really disappointed by this.
We had to wait a few hours for our room to be available, which meant we thought we would use the air conditioned games room. This is terrible. In desperate need for some tlc, needs new equipment and should not be payable. Clearly an addition to get the star rating. Fitness Suite is very well equipped. Tennis Courts could really do with a shaded area and on AI did not expect to have to pay for tennis balls.
General service is very slow, both at the bars and when waiting for a table. Very hit and miss on whether you wait to be seated, or just do it yourself. Quite a delay in drinks orders being taken and then eventually getting those drinks, in all restaurants and for each meal. Really let's it down. In the a la carte restaurants, you have to sign your bill, this takes an age to receive also.

We had a honeymoon lagoon room, very basic, really needs some attention but no issue with any bugs etc. Nice to have a selection of drinks in the mini bar to be included.

We did a glass bottom boat trip, which is good for free. The catamaran trip to Illes aux Cerf was excellent. Great day out & great team on the boat; Silva, Rias & Filo (I think!)

We were given lovely 'just married' t shirts & complimentary duo massage. Did expect swans out of towels, or petals on the bed, or chocolates with the turn down service, anything to show it was a 4star.

It was a lovely honeymoon spent at Preskil, however so many areas let it down, we would not return & I definitely felt disappointed, it simply was not 4 star, 3 at most. Most of the time the staff were disinterested and we would have to approach them. Of course there were a couple that were great, but it should be much more consistent.

No issue from plane noise at all, pleasantly surprised.

Glad we went AI as offered much more choice & ease. In reflection, I wish we'd paid more and chosen a 5star with Thomson, least we may then have received the 4star service.
Think Preskil simply met the tick box of facilities to allow them the rating, it was not the service, nor standard the would have reached this. Disappointing.

Room Tip: Pay as much as you can afford for an upgraded room. Cottages appear best.

We spent two days here through the days as we were staying near by. On the first we enjoyed the breakfast, skiing, spa and a lunch. The Breakfast was really good with a large variety of different dishes to choose from. I was quite impressed by the fact that they make their own honey, or at least the bees do. It was however very hot in the restaurant and felt it to be uncomfortable to eat in such heat.
Skiing was fun and the boat man did a lot of effort in teaching 2 of our family how to ski, as it was their first time. In no time they were up and skiing!!
The spa was priced alright for a hotel, but we felt that it was not the best planning as we had to sit waiting a while before we were helped. We did a pedicure and couples massage. The pedicure was left to be finished (painted) after the couples massage. After the couples massage we had a flower bath which was really nice and filled with hibiscuses in all colors. Then when we were done and ready for toes to painted I was informed that my pedicure therapist had taken on another client and that I had to wait for her to finish. I felt that this was unprofessional and that some other therapist should have finished the toes in such a situation. I was also not offered tea or any beverage in the waiting period.

On the second day we took the catamaran day trip. This started off slowly and while we were waiting to leave we were not offered any drinks. They also only finished stocking the catamaran when people were already aboard, which i feel is due to bad planning. After a while we got away and then it was smooth sailing. Lunch was alright but not as good as other catamaran trips we had gone on before. The Island to which they took us was very beautiful. We para sailed here for 1400 rupees for two people, don't arrange the para sailing on the boat but rather go negotiate on the island. There is shopping and bathroom facilities on this island. On this boat trip we also stopped to snorkel, which was a hassle as the goggles that they provided fogged up much quicker than others we had used before and this made it hard to see the fish.

Overall our experience at the Preskil was good considering the prices, but there is definately room for improvement!

I would like to class myself as a very average man, not snobby in the slightest. This is a very truthful critique on a very sub standard poor establishment.

The food
Unedible is the only way to describe the slop that is served at all periods of the day. Flies in yoghurt at breakfast, insects all over fruit. Food posioning was contracted from raw chicken, I was ill for the duration.

The Room
Only way to describe it was like staying in a zoo. Creatures appearing at all hours of the day, lizards, cochroaches running around room and in beds.

Average room at the best.

The Resort
Fairly poor, food and drink very over priced. Nothing to do in the vansinity of the hotel.

Staff
Polite except for manager and high up staff. The staff beg you to write good trip advisor reviews and in exchange for good reviews, offer complimentory food in the al a carte and drinks.

How this hotel has 5 stars and are giving it good reviews is beyond me. If you are to take anyones advice this year, do NOT stay here!! Save your money and book else where.

Says it all - we totally regret not making it 6 out of 6...!!! (went to the South Coast of Durban - big mistake..!)

Just returned from a wonderful holiday at Preskil - glad to see that things have only improved during our absence. Staff / food and the resort are great - very special Xmas and New Year spent at what now feels like a 'home from home'.

The diving school & the boat house at the resort are professional and helpful - always something to do.

The Preskil's staff (very small turnover of staff) are all pleasant, helpful and attentive and always make an effort to greet and make sure that you are happy.

Keep up the good work.

Preskil Beach Resort is in a fantastic location and has a really relaxed feeling about it. I think it offers great value compared to many options in Mauritius, with many water sports, including waterskiing, in the price.

We were here two years ago and came again as we had enjoyed it so much. We stayed in one of the cottages - it's worth paying a bit more for one, as they are well spaced out and all have fabulous views across the turquoise waters of the lagoon. The resort is spread along a wide beach, so never feels overcrowded. If you like peace and quiet, just go to the far end of the beach where barely one third of the beach beds are taken, even when all the rooms are full. If you like it busy, stay close to the pools and the water sports.

This time our trip included New Year and the evening leading up to the big fireworks display at midnight was good fun, with a floating stage on the swimming pool to provide an additional dance floor.

The restaurant on the beach is great for an evening when the buffet doesn't appeal. The menu is good and the location and service are excellent. Dinner on the beach on Christmas Eve was really special.

All the staff speak both English and French and seem genuinely to care that you enjoy your stay, so they do their absolute best to make sure that you have everything you need. We will be back.

I would recommend this resort. Excellent value for money. Room 323 was great. Food very good. Staff very friendly and helpful. Mauritius is an island to explore. Be aware of relatively strong and continuous current close to the beach. Snorkeling is good but can't compare to Maldives. Vast majority of guests is French. Some rooms don't have sufficient level of privacy so be careful to chose the right one.

Room Tip: I recommend rooms 320 to 330.
