“Top Notch in All Respects”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2012

Early on a busy Friday night we dined at Club Car, a smart and attractively decorated train station. Service was highly attentive and friendly without being intrusive; the food was creative and very well prepared. The calamari appetizer was an interesting, spicey twist on what elsewhere can be a rather pedestrian course. For the entree my fish portion was generous and perfectly cooked...served over lobster mashed potatoes All four of us were equally impressed by Club Car.

A word of advice: Ask for a table on the right in the back, because the restaurant became quite noisy after eight on Friday and off to the side was clearly quieter.

“Stunning restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2012

A friend and I stopped in after the dinner hour for dessert and coffee. We informed the hostess and there was no problem with that and we were shown to a table right away. Physically, this is a stunning place. They have lovingly restored the 19th century train station, complete with a huge fireplace at one end, stained glass windows, stamped tin ceiling - just gorgeous. Our desserts were delicious and the coffee was excellent. Check was about $30 - yes, a bit pricey. At these prices, this place would be for a very special occasion.

“Some style no substance.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2012

Living in Mamaroneck I was excited by the idea of putting a restaurant in the old Mamaorneck station. They did a beautiful job on the design and using the old fixtures but that's when it ends. The music was blasting,The service was subpar (the server didn't know wnat the sauce on the Sole special was),the sea bass with lobster was eh,I think I may have found a piece of lobster in the sauce. The asparogous appetizer was limp asparogous with gorganzola in marsala sauce that overpowers the gorganzola taste. The desserts were not much better and it was way overpriced ($40 for a mediocre Sole)..All in all a total disappointment.
If you want to go to an expensive restaurant by a station you are better off at Plates by the Larchmont station.

“beautiful setting; really good food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2012

We dined here with another couple last night and were initially struck by the beautifully restored and decorated building that had been a train station. But I wondered if the food would be as wonderful. It was as was the service. Our waiter, Chris, was helpful, efficient and knowledgeable. All 4 of us loved our food. The only negative I can cite is the noise level which seems to be louder these days at most restaurants. Our table was fairly close to the bar which seemed to be the noisiest area in the restaurant, so next time I'll request a table away from the bar. It should be noted that prices are rather high, but portions are very generous.

“sure to be a major hit in Mamaroneck”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2012

My wife and I dined at Club Car last Sunday. We were told by friends that it was expensive but good. The fact that the restaurant was located in the former Mamaroneck train stationhouse was intriguing, and once we stepped inside it was clear that owner Brian MacMenamin had made a significant investment in re-fitting and refurbishing the space - in vintage style! The ceiling alone is magnificent, with old-fashioned light fixtures hanging from traditional hammered copper plates.

Club Car has several tasty beers on tap and a decent wine list. The tables are properly-spaced and the ambience is quiet due to the very high ceiling.

Menu items were in fact expensive, with salads in the $14-20 range and most entrees well above $35.

The restaurant served fresh bread and a delicious tapenade-style dip which was yummy.

It's possible to economize a bit with your order: we split delicious in-shell ecargot appetizer in sublime garlic butter and I ordered the gnocchi with spare rib and pork meat (a very generous helping!).

My wife ordered a Gorgonzola chopped salad and a side of asparagus.

We each had two drinks and the bill came to $115.

The service was attentive, with multiple employees hovering. The manager took the trouble to stop by and introduce himself, which was a nice touch.

Highly recommended - kudos to Brian MacMenamin!
