During our annual 4-week stay in Malone to visit family during July and August, we ate at Hosler's six times. We went as a couple, with family and with friends. We found it to be a great choice for lunch when looking for a reasonably-priced, sit-down meal. The menu boasts typical Northcountry fare without any suprises.
The hot turkey sandwich is predictable and very good. The fish sandwich is passable, but nothing special. The salad bar is adequate and a nice change from "meat and potatoes". But, if you're lucky enough to be there for the chicken and biscuit lunch special, order it! You may not be able to eat supper later, but that's probably a good thing. I'm a wimp and probably should've ordered the gravy on the side, but it was oh-so-good! We were so happy with the restaurant that we even went there when the Fair was in town. Now who does that when the fair is right across the street?!
Lunch prices are reasonable; and when compared to a mega fast food chain's meal prices, you'd do better at Hosler's for price, quality and quantity.
Service is uneven, however. Some servers are amazingly friendly, efficient and attentive. Others seem to be irritated at having to work, distracted, inattentive and more interested in getting in a smoke break. We never had the same server twice and got a very broad range of service quality.
We'll definitely be back. Locals already know to go here. Travelers and vacationers to the area should give this a try.
