“A real motel on the lake”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2014

I've never been to the Adirondacks before. This was something my husband has wanted to do for a long time. Based on Tripadvisor reviews I picked this motel. It is exactly as presented. The rooms are old fashioned and rustic. Off every room is a large screened in porch overlooking the lake. The owner, David, fenced off the grassy area between the porches and the lake so nobody is ever walking behind your room. The rooms are clean and the beds are comfy. The beach is small, very clean and peaceful. There is a long walkway down to the beach. Some may find it difficult to navigate. We rented David's two-person kayak and he was helpful getting us equipped and on our way. He has other boats also. This place is quiet. Look elsewhere if you have active kids. Everyone here seems to kayak and canoe every day. We had a great time.

Room Tip: We liked being upstairs. All rooms are lake front.

I was there with a friend to pick up my daughter at camp. Though we were just passing through we were made to feel like family by the owner David and his son Luke. Sitting on a lounge chair on the beach, peacefully watching the sun go down, was a slice of heaven. When the bugs came out we had the wonderful screen porch off our room facing the lake. Next year I plan on going with my teenage sons who will water ski, swim, canoe and kayak and make somemores off the sandy beach. The rooms are being renovated one by one, but even the old ones feel like northwoods cabins. Thank you for a fun stay David.

Sandy Point provided a great "base camp" for our Adirondack day-adventures. At first my city kids were suspicious of the lack of obvious commercial-type activities at Long Lake. The owner David and his son Luke went out their way to welcome us, organizing a barbecue on their sandy beach and guided us to great activities for our nine-year old twins who were soon rafting, hiking, climbing with the best of them. The rooms and grounds are simple and clean. Our room included a kitchenette and all the basics, and the beach was perfect for an evening swim. What makes the place special is that David makes you feel you're staying with old friends. The kids definitely want to return the Adirondacks--but "only if we can stay with David."

As a member of the US Paracanoe Team, I found Sand Point Motel to offer an easily accessible, sandy beach and docks to launch my kayak/canoe from for daily practice runs. It's impossible to resist a swim along Sandy Point's pristine waterfront, and a relaxing nap on one of the many lounge chairs he provides on the beach. Our room and bathroom were extremely clean and comfortable and from the screened-in porch, it offered a stunning view of Long Lake's sunsets in the evening. David was extremely accommodating and created a safe place for me to store my training kayak on the beach. With my German family in tow, it was a great help that David speaks German almost like a native! I will definitely be back to Sandy Point - to train, to relax, to swim, to enjoy the best the Adirondacks have to offer!

And the owner David knows his neck of the woods. Ask him about walks, hikes or bicycle paths - he knows it.

It is situated by the lake with a little Beach and all the rooms have perfect view over the lake. They are facing West which give you stunning sunsets in the evening. You have to drive to Long Lake to get breakfast - but never mind it is just 2 miles away.

We forgot my newly bougth blazer. He shipped it imediatly to Europa paying the expense!!!!

We will return :-)

Went for a quick overnight getaway. It was extremely clean, the motel owner Dave was just friendly and lovely. It was like having our own personal Adirondack Concierge. He was a wealth of knowledge about the area, lots of suggestions on where to dine and what to do while we were there. When we arrived, everything was exactly as represented and he put everything aside to welcome us and make sure we were happy. He definitely turned our dream weekend into reality. We rented a fishing boat from him on Memorial Day and spent an awesome day on the lake! I think we saw two other boats the whole day on the lake! He made sure the boat was ready, running like a top and full of gas so we would have no worries. He even gave us what turned out to be great advice on where to catch fish in the lake! Each room has a screened-in porch so everyone has an awesome view of the lake. He gave us ideas about upcoming events and other establishments to visit on a return trip that made us want to come back very soon. It was a wonderful, relaxing and rejuvenating getaway that was made possible by the very accommodating owner.

I was stranded in Long Lake with a flat tire and no where to get it fixed on as Sunday afternoon. AAA recommended this hotel, so I gave them a call. Upon arrival, the owner had everything ready. He had told me that the room might be cool as the windows would probably be open. They were. I just closed them and turned up the heat. The room itself, while a little on the small side, was very clean. The patchwork quilts on the beds and the wood paneling on the walls gave the room a sort of "lodge" feeling. The view of the lake from the room was beautiful. Overall I had a good experience.

It is always a bit challenging when you experience an Automotive breakdown in an unfamiliar area, glad that things got fixed up and you made it safely home without to much of a delay. Next time your coming thru Long Lake, hopefully under more pleasant circumstances, stop for a visit and an opportunity to explore the area in some more detail.
