This was our first trip to NY as adults, so we wanted something within our budget with a king size bed close to manhattan and this was the place we chose to try. We were not disappointed. When we got there and went to the room it was not made up yet, but we saw inside and it was a decent size and also had an exercise bike which was neat. The staff got us another room that was ready and we were very surprised to find a jacuzzi in it! So that was a great bonus after all the walking we did in the city everyday. The staff were helpful and friendly and the free shuttles to local areas was great. We got the shuttle whenever we wanted to, we never had to wait more than 5 mins, and they took us to the subway station they recommended which was at 40th/Lowery. This subway took us right where we wanted to go, or we could connect with other ones, which was very helpful for us newbies. The subway station was also located in what we were told was a safe neighbourhood and we could wait inside a fruit store or other stores while we waited (it usually only took about 5-10 mins before the shuttle came to get us anyway) but there were lots of people around, kids, families etc so seemed fine. Some reviews mention the drivers were a bit crazy and they do drive aggressively but that's just how it is in NY with the double parking, pedestrians everywhere etc. The cleaning staff at the hotel were always friendly and had a smile. It is not a newer hotel, it is an old brick school but there are some updates inside the rooms, wallpaper, bedding, pictures etc. There is also free wifi if you have your laptop which was wicked, also looked like two computers in the lobby to use. We also got breakfast included every morning, and it was plenty/filling. They had waffle makers so you could make your own, or scrambled eggs, sausages, toast, cereals, some fruit, juices coffee etc, filled us up until dinner.
Overall I would recommend it for someone who wanted a clean place to stay near NYC without paying too much.
