“Would stay again”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2009

La Quinta proved to be an affordable accommodation outside the main city. The hotel was a very close walk to the subway. Rooms were basic and clean. The shower took us a few minutes to figure out. Breakfast was simple, but included in the price. McDonald's and other restaurants are close by. There is a great market with fresh fruit and produce right near the subway station that we stopped at often. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Parking is tight and the parking lot was full when we got there. There is a bridge across the street that you can park under, but you have to pay for parking. We complained about this to the staff and they let us park in a spot reserved for unloading cars. We will stay here again when we go back to the city.

We stayed here for a week in March 2009 and chose this hotel from the reviews on TripAdvisor because it was cheaper than staying in Manhattan. Were pleased with our choice and would go back.

Luckily our room (304) was at the rear but you would have some noise from the subway and road if you were at the front, or noise if by the lift. The room was fine, with iron and ironing board, fridge, coffee making, heater/cooler unit, etc. Housekeeping was done mid-afternoons. We used the blanket each night but when the room had been serviced it was taken off and folded up every day – no point, and we had to keep remaking the bed!

Limited tables at breakfast but only had to wait one morning for one to become free. A TV was on in the breakfast room which all American motels/hotels seem to do. They use all plastic/polystyrene cutlery and crockery which isn’t very environmentally friendly, but saves them washing up.

We used the free internet (slow) but were disappointed that one guest was on there for much longer than the 15 minutes allocated. Please be fair to all guests especially when there is a queue and get off the computer when the next guest tells you they’re waiting. Reception didn’t step in; maybe they could set it up to restart after 15 minutes?!

It was handy having the subway, shops and restaurants nearby. The CVS pharmacy has a bit of everything in it, food, gifts, etc., the liquor store has lots of choice and all shops open until around 9pm. Can recommend Pete’s diner and the Chinese (Asian ‘Fusion’ but mostly like your normal British Chinese). Went up to Queens Mall, about a twenty-minute bus ride from just outside the hotel.

For sightseeing, we bought the CityPass which was ideal for first-time visitors to New York City to do a boat trip, Empire State building and visit four of the main museums.

We arrived and departed from Newark and got there by train and subway although there was a change where you had to go up to road level and back down again. No lift so you have to carry luggage up/down the subway stairs. Reception was able to look after our suitcases after checkout on the last day until we returned for them later. Booked the hotel on an online booking site.

The location is ideal for exploring NY. The Metro station is only 3 mins walk from the hotel and there are very frequent trains towards Manhattan; train journey takes about 7-10 mins. The rooms were good but would have liked if the carpets were cleaner.

The staff at reception were friendly.

The hotel is just parallel to the Metro track. The constant sound of the moving trains was initially disturbing but within 2 days we got used to it.

Breakfast didnt seem value for money. Not much of a choice and the items provided were not of an excellent quality. But it is value for money unless you find a better deal elsewhere.

The La Quinta Inn Queens had great staff and where very helpful, gave us lots of tips on where to go. Room was a decent size and was cleaned daily. We had street facing the main street but didn’t have issues with noise from the street or subway. The location was brilliant only a few minutes from the subway which takes 20 minutes to get to Times Square.

Breakfast is basic (Bagels, Toast and Donuts) but filling, the quality of the tea is poor but the same can be said about most of the tea in the states (Bring your own if you are a tea drinker). The hotel has free internet through Wi-Fi and has a Ethernet port in each room (bring you own Ethernet cable if your laptop isn't wireless)! The internet went down for two days due to bad weather!!!!! This was very disappointing.

Overall this hotel is value for money, you get what you pay for. The location of the hotel is excellent 20 minutes away from Times Square. I would have given the La Quinta Inn 5 out of 5 but for the internet outage.

Before booking this hotel I did lots of research on Trip Advisor. We were travelling in from Washington DC on the train and had no problems at all finding our way on the tube to our destination. La Quinta is in a great location, only about 20 minutes out of the centre. As long as you catch a no7 circle tube you can't go wrong and they run 24/7 which was great because we had a very early departure time before moving on to Boston.
We arrived at around 12pm and the staff were very helpful and sorted us out a room straight away. Throughout our stay we asked various questions and we were always given lots of helpful advice. The room was very clean, and we were lucky to be overlooking the car park and not the train line which I believe can be a bit noisy!! The breakfast was more than adequate for our needs, basic but fresh and enjoyable. Upon advice from comments on previous posting we went to 'Petes Diner' on our first night - and for the next three nights after that!! The food was excellent, the portions big, the price reasonable and only a few minutes walk away from the hotel. After a long day sightseeing in New York we didn't really want to go far and you could tell that they had a lot of repeat customers which says a lot!!
We really enjoyed our stay at the La Quenta. It was definately better than expected, there was nothing we could fault and on our experience we would definately recommend it to our friends if they were wanting somewhere to stay and couldn't afford a central NY hotel.

We stayed at the La Quinta In Queens and was pleasantly surprised. The rooms were small but clean. There were no frills, but we just wanted a room for sleeping and that's what we got.

One highlight was the ease to get in the city. Three blocks away was the 7 Train which got us into the city in 15 minutes.

The continental breakfast consisted of cereal, toast, donuts, and bagels. If that's not for you, a McDonalds is next door. Also, there's a 24 hour diner in the same block.

We would definitely consider staying here again. It was a bargain compared to the price of the Manhattan hotels, and an easy ride into the city.
