“Great hip place!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2014

For just opening 5 months ago they seem to be doing everything right. Great room, friendly staff, convenient location. The mix of modern and industrial was cool. Very clean. Bathrooms are cool with a separate shower "closet". Can't wait for their nightclub to be open soon!

This hotel is very clean and nicely furnished with cool designs. We picked the 5th floor with a good view to the Brooklyn bridge. It was also quiet inside but you have to keep it quiet as you can hear thru the walls.

Free bottles of water and snack. In the lobby is free ice water.

The restaurant in the hotel isn't quite done and will open in a few weeks we were told.

Very modern and classy, enjoyed the stay. The subway is close by and good way to get to Manhattan to eat and see the sights.

The neighborhood is safe but parking is hard to find around the block. Lucky we could drive around and find a space. Parking after 7pm is free but have to pay the meter before 7PM.

We enjoyed the chess and fooseball also in the lobby.

Cons. The A/C wasn't able to adjusted. No ice machine or fridge in our standard room. We didn't have any free coffee but the person did give us one free cup of coffee. (Thank you) It would be nice to have a beverage machine to buy drinks if needed.

Overall, we had a very nice time, and though it is expensive, it was worth it.
Probably would stay again. Also for breakfast, we enjoyed a good cup of coffee and excellent bagel sandwich at 'Coffeed' nearby.

Room Tip: The top floors(5th floor) with a window view overlooking the city scape.

This designhotel is situated in Queens and the metrostation to Manhattan is only fifty yards away.
The hotel is beautiful and very spacious. The people at the reception are very friendly and helpful although they have no knowledge of good restaurants in the neighborhood.
The rooms are nicely decorated and spacious and the welcome bottle of water is very appreciated. Although the rooms are indeed noisy they are nice and the beds terrific.
The bathrooms had a good shower with enough water coming out. In some hotels in other parts of Manhattan and Queens that experience can be different.
In the hotel is a small cafe where you can get a tasteful cup of coffee and croissants. All day long to can take iced water for free. The hotel has no restaurant but you can find some nearby.
We can recommend this hotel if you want to explore Manhattan and want to have the luxury of a four star hotel for an affordable price.

Room Tip: Try to get a room at a higher floor not next to the elevator

This extremely industrial chic boutique hotel is a fantastic adaptive reuse of a paper factory. I liked that the Hotel was very close to the M/R 36 Street subway station. My suggestion is to take the E/F Express train to Queensboro Plaza and catch the local M/R train one stop if you are coming from the City, which is 1-2 stops away depending on how you plan to get there. In my room with 2 beds, which was a good size, I liked that the shower was separate from the toilet and sink so two of us can use the bathroom separately. Everything was very clean. The fragrance of the bathroom amenities was gender neutral. I hate when they are too flowery or musky. Good hairdryer. Fluffy towels. Inroom safe. The air conditioning worked well during the summer time heat. I understood the hotel was still gearing up and not all of the amenities were ready. The wifi worked well. It is walking distance to main drag of the Astoria neighborhood, Steinway Street. Here were some issues that the hotel should work on: (1) we were not told what services are available at the Hotel (Was there a business center? guest lounge?); (2) the TV remote button required us to press down with all our strength (3) explain how to watch other channels (which we should have been told when we checked in or find instructions in the room). We were stuck on one channel (4) have alternate restaurant suggestions that are opened really late especially when you arrive late from the airport. We walked all along Steinway Street to find out that everything closed at 10:00 PM when we were expressedly told that everything was still open at 10:30 PM. Eventually, we found a random food truck. Would I stay there again? Yes. I hope management addresses these issues to improve a good hotel.

Room Tip: Book directly with the Hotel to get the best rates! Higher floors has views of Astoria and Manhatta...

Actually the hotel's interior design is "cool" and trendy. It used to be a paper factory which they've converted into a hotel. A mix of industrial and minimalist design - but not one particular theme. They have an old Vespa in the lobby which I didn't quite understand what it was doing in a paper factory.

They also have a cool covered patio though. The view is nothing at all, but the feel and design is nice.

And that's what you pay for. Granted, it's in NYC so you won't be paying less than $100/night.

Rooms are decent size, with hardwood floors - which squeak at times. Shower was completely separated from the rest of the bathroom - which is a good feature. But that means it's a really small stand-in shower, and the other part of the bathroom is narrow. But the worst part about the bathroom is lack of a fan! And with no window either, you can imagine the unpleasant situation.

And another part of trying to be trendy and upscale is their choice of shampoo as well. But instead of providing a soap bar, they have a tiny bottle of shower gel. I don't know about others but the only way I can properly wash my body with shower gel is by using a loofah. Which, thankfully, they didn't have.

We turned the A/C on for a while and had to turn it off again cause it got too cold and it was blowing air right at us when sleeping. There's no way of adjusting the temperature.

It has been a while I haven't been to a hotel which had no coffee in the room. All they provide was two mini bottles of water and two small cookies. If you want coffee, you'll have to buy it from their small coffee shop in the lobby.

The area is eh, so -so. It's right on the border of an industrial area of Queens and a working class residential one. If you're going there by car, you'll have to find parking yourself. Good thing though it's close to subway stations which take you into Manhattan.

Shqipo,

Thank you for reviewing our property and for showcasing some of your experiences at the Paper Factory Hotel. We take every comment from our guest's very seriously and have done the same with yours.
The air conditioning in the room certainly can be adjusted both with the fan speed, temperature and especially the blowing direction of the vents, which I think would have made your stay more comfortable.
We as a team have decided to go with a more expensive and sanitary option for our guest's when it came to the bathroom amenities (shampoos, bath gels, etc.) At the same time I thank you for the suggestion.
In closing, I want to thank you again for taking the time to write a review and we hope that some of the challenges you experienced do not deter you from visiting us again and allowing us to service you again.

Old paper factory nicely converted into antique but modern taste boutique type hotel. Equipped with everything necessary for any business traveler. Surrounding is a bit noisy. High ceiling is nice, but there's a room for improving dining facilities, currently only one coffee stand is running, as far as I see.
