“Good price/quality budget hotel with limitations but would go back !”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2006

I booked this hotel based on the reviews in tripadvisor.

Positive :
-location : queensboro plaza (Queens) subway is 5 minutes from the hotel (you can see it from the hotel), beware you have to do some stairs
-distance from times square : 15 minutes
-safety of the area : ok, but doesn’t “look” safe, ok if your’re a man, area well lit at night
-hotel easy to find from the subway
-internet (wifi and cable) : very useful and free, wifi didn’t work only once !
-coffee and thee : free
-ice machine, drinks machines : available (but not on every floor) and working fine
-staff : young and in almost all cases collaborative
-security staff : available and reassuring
-room size : small but acceptable
-airconditiong : working fine (in november !)
-fast food facilities and groceries : available close to the hotel
-bed : good, 3 pillows
-safe : in room for free, large enough to hold a portable, the problem is that the safe prevents long clothes and trousers to hang down
-business centre : 2 computers, 1 printer (free)
-work out room : free but very small (in same room as business centre) for two people

Negative :
-noticed a (one !) cockroach in my bathroom and got (on request) another room (and an excuse)
-my room had a strange smell, this changed when I got the new room
-breakfast area : very small (4 tables, with seating capacity for 12 people) for an hotel with 80 rooms, often people have to eat their breakfast standing
-breakfast : if you like hard boiled eggs, pan cakes and donuts ok, but cheese and ham is missing which is a problem after a few days, good choice of juice and hot drinks, fruit (bananas were not always very fresh and available)
-noisy on the floors above second floor if you sleep with open windows
-first floor is on street level, people are able to knock on you window and see in your room, this is better from the second floor

Conclusion :
-I recommend this hotel, would come back
-Good price/quality value, but still expensive, although probably not for New York !
-Don’t book it via the Comfort Inn website which is much more expensive (not lowest price guarantee) than others (look for deal via tripadvisor travel sites)

This is probably one of the best options if you're watching your budget in NYC. Don't be phased by the location...it is in LIC, but it is located literally steps away from the Queensboro subway station which can get you to Manhattan quickly.

The staff is extremely friendly. The front desk staff was helpful in providing everything needed, as was the security guard. The rooms are a little on the small side, but clean.

The only thing that was remotely bad about my stay was having a hotel room on the bottom floor. The windows are level with the sidewalk outside and when I left my curtain open one night, people outside knocked on the window.

Hi!
I think the hotel is a good choice to visit Manhattan. I booked a standard king room for 2 people and i got a room in the eigth floor. It was nice, not to big but comfortable and with a perfect bathroom.
The problem was the first nigth that, in the middle of the night i waked up and i saw like six - seven bugs on my bed. I went to the reception and i changed room immediatly and the staff were helpfull. Maybe it was a bad day because we stayed there more 3 nights (in other room) and we didn´t have any problem. The hotel looked really clean. The breakfast was good but not perfect in comparison with european hotels. No ham, chesse, butter....
The free internet access is really helpful to send some messages. It´s literally 2 minutes from the queensboro plaza, where you can get the 7, Q and W lines to Manhattan (Times square ~ 10 minutes).
I didn´t felt unsafe in the area, although i just used the area to went to the subway

It was a lovely experience

Hope to come back soon

I stayed here with my 2 teenaged kids (17 and 19) for 3 nights. Like other reviewers mentioned, it is in a warehouse/industrial type area and looks rather scary. But there was a security guard on duty at the front door at all times and the staff was very friendly. The room was very small, but it was clean and comfortable and we didn't spend much time in it anyway. You can see the subway station from the front door, and we used the subway at all times of the day and night (morning are very busy,so be prepared to be packed in like sardines). One word of warning, our cab driver got lost getting us there from LGA. We could see the hotel but he couldn't figure out how to get to it. After a few drives around the block, he figured it out. I would highly recommend this hotel for families with older kids and budet travelers who want to experience NYC but not pay an arm and a leg for it.

Myself and two friends stayed at this hotel for three nights over Labor Day weekend for our annual trip to the city. This was our first stay at this hotel and we were very pleased. We have always stayed in Manhattan and we leary of staying in Queens, as it sometimes doesn't have the greatest reputation.

The neighborhood certainly doesn't compare to staying in Manhattan but we never felt unsafe and the only time we spent there was the 60 second walk to the subway station. You can't beat how close the subway is to this hotel. It is basically across the street. You can catch the N, W, or 7 at Queensboro Plaza or the E, R, or V at Queens Plaza. It is a quick 5 minute trip to the city - the first stop on the N or W is Lexington Ave/59 St.

The hotel itself was very nice. The room was on the small side, but everything seemed newer and everything was very clean. How much time are you really spending in the room when you are in NYC? The front desk staff was very courteous and helpful. There was free wireless internet access.

The breakfast was your typical continental breakfast. However, I just received an email from the Comfort Inn, that described its revamped breakfast. "Choose from a delicious assortment of taste-tempting treats, including hot and flavorful breakfast meats, eggs, waffles, and our Savory RoastTM Coffees. We also offer a selection of lighter options such as yogurt and fresh fruit, as well as brand name jelly, jam and fruit spreads."

We liked this hotel so much we booked a room for New Years Eve

Having read all the reviews on the site, we found the hotel to be just as expected. It is not in a conventional hotel neighbourhood/ area, because it is opposite a junkyard but don't let that put you off. The area is OK and we walked from the subway station to the hotel (about 2 min walk) several times and we never felt unsafe.

It is only 2 mins from Queensborough Plaza (QBP) subway station and 5 mins from Queens Plaza (QP) subway station so it is very convenient for public transport. Exit QBP station from the south over the road bridge and exit QP from the north and walk around the road with the railway bridges on your right until you see the pedestrian road bridge from QBP station.

The hotel is clean and tidy and the rooms spacious. Rooms are quiet and have AC. The front desk staff were courteous and always willing to help. In fact they helped me get on this PC in the fitness centre to write this review. There are two free to use PCs in fact.

There is a free continental breakfast, which consists of cereals, toast, waffles, doughnuts, croissants, etc. Orange and apple juice and coffee all day long if needed.

I was thoroughly pleased with our stay and the value. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

for visiting Manhattan without stay in Manhattan
Ok, the neighborhood looks like crap, and finding a parking for more than 24 hours around the hotel is not easy, but we really enjoyed our stay. For 109 $US/night (CAA/AAA rate), we stayed in a small but really nice and clean room at the 8th floor. The front desk staff was very helpful and helped us to planify our trip to NYC. The hotel is located at less than 1 minute of the metro station by walk, so it's really easy to go to Time Square and other NYC attractions. The breakfast was good and the room was very quiet (we didn't hear a noise) and everything was in good condition, including the climatisation that helped us to survive to the extremely hot temperatures of the beginning of August. So don't be afraid of the poor look of the neighborhood!
