“very nice hotel in a good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2009

We have been in wonderful New York many times, but this were our first hotel in Long Island City, and it was considering the price, a very nice hotel, only a few minor drawbacks......
The hotel is clean, the staff is nice and helpfull, the room we had were very nice with a Manhattan-view from 7th floor.
There are a very small gym, its ok. In the same room there are two computers and a printer, it all works fine and are free. The breakfast is ok, even that we dont understand why they dont add a little cheese and ham, that would make the breakfast good ! Its a little silly that there are only 4 small tables for the breakfast, breakfast is nicest if you are eating it sitting down......
The aircondition is working fine, but the rooms are warm and a little humid even if its cool outside, and you get a cold if you sleep with the aircondition on. Thats the bad thing at this hotel !
The location is actully great, so close to Queensboro Plaza Subway with only one stop to Manhattan on the express-train ! Grand Central is a 10 min ride. It takes less than 2 min walking to the Subway ! Right by the Subway there are several shops, and some of them are open late. The area around the Hotel and Subway is safe, dont know about the surroundings.
Our best tip : at the first Subway stop, Court House Square St. you will find Court House Square Diner right at the doorstep to the station. Its a very nice Diner, with good food, and its open all night ! You can be back at the hotel in less than 10 min.....
We recommend this hotel as a very good value New York Hotel , but maybe you should stay away in the warmest part of the summer.

My husband and I were planning an event in Williamsburg and needed a place not only for us to stay, but for many of the attendees to stay. I called the staff at the Comfort Inn and they gave us a discount group rate with no hassles whatsoever. I booked my room and suggested to our group to also book their rooms with Comfort Inn. When we checked in, the staff was very friendly, helpful and pleasant. We ended up having 15 rooms book through our group and the staff was great to work with. They suggested a local pizza place for delivery and it was delicious. They gave out directions to the event venue for our people and really catered to our needs. They offer free WiFi in your room. Great hotel, great staff, great price. Would recommend to anyone who is looking for a decent, affordable hotel.

Our stay at the Comfort Inn Long Island City was a very pleasurable one fom the moment we arrived to the moment we checked out. Getting to the Hotel from JFK Airport was very easy by taking the AirTrain to Jamaica Station and then the Subway to Queens Plaza, and then a short walk to the Hotel.

Upon arrival we were greeted in a friendly manner by the staff on Reception and were presented with information and maps about the hotel and New York area.

The hotel room was very clean and tidy albeit a little on the small side with not much wardrobe space. The bed was comfy and the there were lots of extras in the room such as Iron, Ironing board, Large Cable T.V, Safe, Hairdryer, Tea and Coffee and Phones. The bathroom was also stocked with complimentary toiletries. Other facilities within the hotel included Complimentary Tea and Coffee 24 hours per day, as well as Ice machines and vending machines on each floor. The rooms were cleaned daily aswell.

The hotel offers a complimentary breakfast each day with items such as cereal, toast, muffins, doughnuts, fruit juices, tea, coffee, and a range of spreads and sauces. The seating area for breakfast was a little small with only 4 tables - which at peak time was annoying as it was hard to sit down. The hotel also offered a complimentary Newspaper (USA Today & The Wall Street Journal) each weekday.

The area around the hotel is a little rough, but we never experienced any trouble walking to and from the Subway which is only a 2 minute walk from the Hotel entrance. The No.7 train from the station by the hotel gets you to Times Square within 10 minutes.

Overall, our stay at the Comfort Inn Long Island City was a very enjoyable one, and was a much cheaper alternative to staying in the heart of Manhattan. It was a pleasure to stay at this hotel and would recommend it to any traveller to New York as it is so convenient for exploring Manhattan.

After trying to find a place to stay in New York for a while I looked on Trip Advisor for some help. I found out some of the hotels I was concidering were filthy and not as they advertised. The Comfort Inn had some great reviews. The area that the hotel is in does seem a bit scary especially when you pull up in a cab and the driver says "god only knows how you have ended up here"! However when you are in the hotel the staff are lovely and will do all they can to help. The reception staff gave us routes to everywhere we wnted to get to.
The hotel is a one minute walk away from the train station and the train goes direct into Times Square and take 10mins max.
The hotel rooms are a good size and they are cleaned daily. Breakfast is available to all and there is complimentary tea and coffee 24hours a day.
All in all this hotel is great value for money and even if the area seems unsafe me and my sister (22 and 26) felt VERY safe walking around alone.

The Comfort Inn in Long Island City is a comfortable place to stay and is very close to the subway for easy access to Manhattan.

Our room was well-presented and clean, and there's heating and air-conditioning should you need it. The TV is large, but there are very few channels to choose from. Wireless Wi-Fi is on every floor, and it's simple enough to access (though you do have to input room number and hotel phone number each time you want to connect).

Complimentary breakfast is good, with fruit, cereal, pastries, coffee, juice, toast, waffles and an assortment of honey, jam etc. Unfortunately, the breakfast area is too small for the number of guests staying at the hotel, with only four small tables to choose from.

The elevator is sometimes very slow to arrive, and there's only one, which is about right for the size of the hotel. I didn't try the fitness room, but I did peek inside and it looked OK.

Toilet facilities were clean, but the shower was more of a hosepipe than a shower. Bathroom was generally very clean and toiletries are provided (you may need to take your own shower gel, as the hotel didn't seem to have any, and the price of shower gel in New York is astronomical. I'll never complain about paying £2 for Original Source ever again!).

The hotel staff were generally friendly, though sometimes aloof. The location of the hotel is like a set from Hill Street Blues, and even though we walked around without any trouble, we were still a little nervous at times (lots of guys in hoods hang around the station and the local shops). There's a Dunkin Donuts just around the corner, and a couple of pizza places.

We ordered pizza delivery from Papa Johns, but it took 45 minutes to arrive (at least) and had cooled down. We didn't tip.

  • Liked — The breakfast, bed and free Wi-Fi.
  • Disliked — Dodgy location and shower.

We were generally happy with the hotel EXCEPT for when we asked for a taxi to be ordered when we were checking out. After 5-10 minutes a beat-up old car arrived and the driver warmly greeted the staff member at reception (they seemed to be friends). He wanted to charge us twice the normal taxi rate to Penn Station (he seemed to think he was running a luxury limo service), and the car was falling apart in places. We declined, and just hailed a proper yellow cab on the street.

In general the reception staff were rather surly, and not making much of an effort to be helpful or friendly.

Hotel was clean, room was fine though not very spacious. Complimentary wi-fi was handy, though it was not available for half a day or so during our stay. The complimentary breakfast was basic, with very limited seating space (e.g. 8-10 people at a time).

The hotel is well located close to metro, only a few stops from Times Square, grand Central Station, etc. though the area is rather run down (or was never run up in the first place!). We never felt particularly unsafe though.

Dear Mambero,

Thank You for taking the time to write a review abou the Comfort Inn - LIC.

In queens, unfortunately Yellow taxis are not readily available and the Black cars are pretty much the norm. They do end up charging higher since they do not run on meter.

We do offer our guests the convenience of using the Subways which are avaiable just a block away from the hotel.

In the future, the staff will be more attentive towards our guest's transportation needs.

We are sorry for any inconvenience you had to face during your trip and hope you and your familyfriends will consider staying at the Comfort Inn - LIC in the future.

If you are looking for a cheap place to stay that's near Manhattan, and for a decent price (booked via "CheepHotels" - with flight Bristol - Newark), this is a great hotel.

Yes, it's small (breakfast "lobby" has only 3 tables, so we took our food and ate it downstairs on the little sofa - and other guests either wrapped it "to go", or took it back to their rooms), there _are_ rooms in the basement - with very little light, but the bed is still extremely comfy, the air con is excellent, and if you are only there a couple of days, how long will you be spending in the hotel anyway...and there is a small fitness centre (treadmills) and 1 x free internet access computer, as well as vending machines and a water cooler. It is also SO near Manhattan. Literally round the corner from the Queenboro Plaza stop (Yellow Q & N and Purple Line 7 which takes you to Times Square in about 10 mins (via Central Park zoo (Yello Q/N) - which is only about 5 mins by subway) - and the same line goes all the way down to Battery Park (for the Statue of Liberty and Ground Zero).

The bathroom is a decent enough size and shampoo/conditioner is provided, as well as anything else if you ask at reception. Service is also efficicent, without being the saccharine "have a nice day".

From Newark it's easiest to get the Airtraine to the Station (free) then the NJ Transit into New York Penn Station (not to be confused with Newark Penn Station!!) From NY Penn, you can either walk a few blocks to Times Square, or get jump on the subway and then yo're at thte right place for Yellow Q/N or Purple 7. Taxis otherwise cost about $85 becuase of the distance and the tolls. (JFK is probably nearer.

If you are flying Continental - the 77 and 76 (Bristol - Newark) have IFE touchscreens on the backs of the seats in front which are showing recent films, a choice of TV shows and with games. The food is ok - not as good as BA, but Continental - at the time of booking was a bit cheaper. The plane is smaller, which is good as Immigration took over an hour stateside with fingerprints and photos, although returning to Bristol was very easy. HOWEVER, if travelling with someone, even if you book your seats together, there is not always a guarantee you will get it - on our case, on the return flight they had pre-separated myself and my partner as well as another couple (actually along the same row) - which seemed very strange! (although easy to rearrange amongst ourselves in this case.)

But back to the Hotel - if you want a comfy bed with easy access to the city, this really is the place to go.
