“Z Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2012

This hotel is reasonable, clean and has a fabulous view of Manhatten from your room. The front desk staff is pleasant and helpful, but young. Housekeeping was good but they didn't leave enough wash cloths or hand towels for two people so we would have to request extras from the front desk, but they always brought them up promptly. There is a shuttle that will take you into the city and pick you up, which is great. But if you are the type that wants to be able to go back to your hotel to rest for a bit and then go back out, this doesn't work so well. We found that after a long day exploring, we weren't really in the mood to get cleaned up and go back out at night, so we didn't ever make it back out for an evening at the theatre. Once we were in, we were in for the night. On the weekends they do have loud music up on the roof and unless you are very young, you won't enjoy it. You can hear it from your room, so the lower the floor you are staying on, the better.

Room Tip: Stay on a lower floor if you are staying over a weekend.

Would not stay there again and would not recommend it. Not a good value, not a good neighborhood, taxi couldn't find it. We had to walk 3 blocks on a rainy night to get a taxi, no taxi queue at door. Music in lobby & lower cafe WAY too loud--very difficult to hear the reception staff and the waitress. Pizza in cafe tastes like soggy cardboard. Despite booking the room many weeks in advance, and specifically requesting a room on a higher floor, we were told the only room available was on the second floor. When we asked if the music volume could be lowered in order to have a conversation, the staff told us they hate the music too, but that the owner is an old guy who's hard of hearing and insists on having the music be too loud so that he can hear it.

Only 2 TV channels worked. Only 1 robe in a king room. Room was very dark. Not a good experience. Avoid.

Room Tip: The best room here...is somewhere else.

The hotel is appealing from the outside as well as the inside. The staff that greated us Robert and Richard were extemely friendly and showed us every courtsey. The day Staff of Daniel and Raisa were also extremely friendly and had a smile and welcome to every customer. The rooms are fairly small but very well laid out. The hotels restaurant was very nice but had a small selection of food which was very good. I would absolutely stay at this hotel again without hesitation.

Great place to stay. The view from the roof is truly amazing. If you can, ask for a room in the upper floors. We stayed on the 3rd floor and we could hear some noise from the street (trucks, motos, etc.). The room is big enough for two, there is no bathtub and the toilet is next to the shower. The bathroom door is a glass door and it doesn't close well...

The breakfast which is included in the price is okay but if you want the full continental (eggs, bacon, sausages... The warm stuff), you have to pay 10$ (+tax). If you want to try a real American breakfast, go to the city, there are many many places where you can have a great breakfast (Norma's, Pershing Square,...)

The free shuttle to the city is very useful and when it happens to be full (in the morning), another shuttle is quickly available. Taking a cab is another possibility, depending on the traffic, we paid between 10and 15$ (tip included) for a ride from Lex/59th. Even if you take the cab back every day, it'll still be cheaper than a hotel room midtown.

We had a great stay and we'll definitely go back there next time we're in NYC.

i booked this hotel for my parents (60s & 70s) based on some of the reviews i read. i thought that if the hotel was half as good as what people said, they my parents were in good hands. well, they have been raving about the staff since the minute i talked to them. they said the staff was cordial and attentive throughout their entire stay. on one occasion my parents missed the complimentary shuttle and the hotel called a taxi for my parents and covered the charges. who does that these days? the hotel itself is conveniently located near the metro station, and makes it very easy to get around. it's in a clean & safe neighborhood.

Sit back and enjoy the Manhattan view. It's amazing. The rooms are clean, the shower is great, the bed is very comfortable. I spent a week with my wife and it was a very nice experience. You have the option of taking their transfer to Manhattan every hour or walking 4 blocks to the nearest subway. They have bikes, a very cool (but underused) lower floor lounge, used only for breakfast, and a rooftop bar with a breathtaking view from NY. The staff is friendly, but be sure you don't screw up during breakfast.... there are 2 types (and prices) for your meal. They were very nice, since we had an overnight flight from Brazil, arrived at 8AM, but they let us have an early check in so we could shower and hit the Big Apple. That was AMAZING!

Room Tip: Choose intermediate floors, so you don't get mad at the rooftop lounge noise but still get the b...

We have just returned from spending part of our honeymoon in Z hotel and it was very good. The rooms are a little small (typical NY) but ideal for everything that you require - spotlessly clean, comfy beds and the most fabulous views over Manhattan. The staff are young, helpful and friendly. The rooftop bar is a must as the views are hard to beat! We also had the continental breakfast when we stayed and it was all you need in the morning - pastries, bread, bagels, fruit and yogurt. For an additional $10 you can add egg, bacon and sausage if you wish. The free shuttle service in and out of Manhattan is also fantastic - dropping/ picking up from Bloomingdales on an hourly basis although the subway is only a few blocks away.

If you're looking for a funky, modern, bright hotel with the best views of Manhattan during your stay, this is defo the hotel for you!

Room Tip: Definitely ask for a room on the higher floors to maximise the view! All rooms have a city view. Als...
