“Affordable, but noisy”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2013

First the good part: it's close to New York and clearly a business hotel - perfect for a single business traveler (and not for a family). Just cross the Queensboro Bridge and you're there in Long Island city. Though, finding a cab and a driver wiling to drop you in New York to this location can be quite a challenge - I requested at least 10 before I found one! The check-in and service are prompt and on-time, rooms are small, but reasonably well done for a single business traveler. Now the bad part: the thin walls can prove to be quite a distraction, for you would wake up in the middle of the night thinking someone's trying to open your room's door, each time someone next door enters the room or comes out. Too much of noise filtering in didn't let me sleep during my stay at the hotel. My advice: Choose this property, if you are a single business traveler, keen on an affordable property on the outskirts of New York that gives you quick and easy access to NYC and use the property mainly as a place to spend your night - there are better places to have affordable meals and shopping in New York. The rooms are clean, amenities hygienic and staff soft spoken. I had absolutely no problem at the property, apart from the noise of the doors on either side of my room opening and closing in the night. Overall, a decent property to stay.

Room Tip: Specifically ask for a room with minimum sound hindrance during night time.

This is becoming my go-to hotel for trips to NYC. Fast friendly service, convenient location near two subway stations with quick access to midtown, nice little restaurant, and clean, but small, rooms. The surrounding neighborhood seems pretty safe too and seems no problem to walk to the subway even at night. Great value and nice place to stay while in the city.

Service beyond answering phones and room cleaning are all you'll find but the place is clean and the chef and bartender do a great job. The city views is great. Bathrooms are fine but could do with some new grout.

this is a very nice hotel I stayed for a few days... the food is excellent and the service was great plus the room had an amazing view of the Manhattan skyline... I was also vey happy because I got a really good sleep usually there is too much noise or the bed is not comfortable however this was not the case I got a really good night sleep so for me that's another plus along with the location since I was in the city in less than 15 min.... I would definitely stay again and recommend!

I stayed one night on November 17th. After reading several reviews that covered two extremes I was not sure what to expect. I was pleased to receive a warn, friendly and professional greeting from the front desk staff. In fact all my interaction with the hotel staffs was just as pleasant. My room was on the seventh floor and overlooked the Manhattan skyline. The room was clean, in good condition and well appointed. I recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a quiet comfortable place to stay that is a short hop to Manhattan.

This hotel is an easy 2 stops from Manhattan, making it a great value compared to Manhattan prices for hotels of a similar quality. The views are terrific from two sides of the building. The neighborhood is quiet and there is a good little restaurant two blocks away.

The problems lie in management -- a change at the top and this place would be terrific. Here are some specifics:
- the staff borders on blasé; they aren't unpleasant but there's no warmth here. Despite repeat stays (my company does business close by), I am never recognized as a repeat guest, and usually have to wait for the front desk staff to finish their conversations before I am acknowledged. Some training and some reinforcement on basic hospitality techniques is needed.
- guestrooms are not being maintained well (and this is not an old building!): things may be broken, or missing, or features of the room won't be consistent from stay to stay. This week, the alarm clock/iPod dock might be broken, while next week there's no recycling can in the room. These are relatively minor in the grand scheme of things but are indicative of an inattentive -- or worse, disengaged -- management.
- the building was built cheaply and it is starting to show: rust at the base of shower doors, loose fittings in the bathroom, and cheap doors that not only slam but offer an uninterrupted symphony of everything happening in the hallway. You can even hear the compressor kick in on the ice machine next to the elevators.

An owner and/or manager with a firm hand on the reins could take this asset and really run with it. But the fact that so far this hotel is pretty much the best one in its neighborhood means that management has gotten a bit lazy. But soon Long Island City will have several new hotels, which may get this property to pull up its badly sagging socks.

Room Tip: Ask for a room looking west. The views of Manhattan are wonderful at night.
