I've noticed that some of the reviewers are complaining about the location. And yes it's defenetly true that it's not the most glamorous area and you probably do not wanna hang out outside much in the evenings. But hey, atleast we where in New York for the reason to see sighst in Manhattan and not spend much time in the hotel or the neighborhood. And if this is what you are looking for this is defenetly a option to think of as the access to Manhattan is really good.
This is a sister hotel with Howard Johson.Same type of buildings next to each others. Both of them having their own pros and cons. I stayed in both and hard to say which one is better. One way to choose would probably be to take the one where you can get a cheaper deal.
-Quick access to Manhattan. The nearest subway stop is on 21st street just couple hundred meters away on the same street. It's just two stops to Manhattan close to Central Park and two more for example to Rockefeller.
-Room was very clean. And as a big plus we had room from eight floor with nice view to Queensborogh bridge and Manhattan.
-there is Subway and some other fast food places next to hotel aswell as small supermarket where you can get the snacks and beers.
-All the hotel staff were really helpful and nice.
-The area where the hotel is situated is bit shaggy..but then again most of the visitors like us will spent the days sightseeing Manhattan so this was not an issue atleast for us.
-Wifi was really poor. Could not use it as the maximum limit for users was already filled..the signal is really poor also. This is something they really should improve. The signal might be better in other rooms ofcourse so if internet is important ask a room where it assumably works well. There is laso two free PC's in for customer use in 1R floor.
-The breakfast...Yep, it's free continental breakfast but nothint to really brag about. It is unbelievable that a hotel this size can have such a small place for breakfast. So if you do not have cows nerves and want to start your day with long queuing at breakfast line fighting for donuts or jelly toasts then you should come either really early or really late to breakfast.
Or if you your budget can handle it have a breakfast the next door subway or go to Manhattan.
-There was some strange bugs in one of the cups in our hotel room.Defenetly something that the cleniars should have noticed and change the cups but they hadn't
Step of from the subway at Roosevelt island (next step) and take the Air tram to Manhattan (it costs same as subway ride 2.25 dollars).Even though it's short ride it's really nice way to see cool views..especially at sunset time it's really beautiful. And ofcourse you can take the ride otherway also.
There is also a nice inexpensive Japanese restaurant with good sushi at the island located. between the Airtram and subway stop.
