“Worst Club Carlson Hotel stayed”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2014

Avoid at all cost!..Our room has bugs, and it was dirty on the floor and also in the bathroom. Room was entered even though I hang "Do Not Disturb" sign. Breakfast was awkful, waffle had way too much baking powder put in and very watery. Bad coffees and items were not kept cold, and staffs were rude as well and not helpful. It was a stress stays.

When we booked our stay here, approx 9 months in advance, we asked for a room with a view and away from the lifts. When we arrived, we were given a room on the first floor with a view of a brick wall and power cables, and next to the lift.... When we asked to be moved, we were offered a room next to an icemaking machine which seemed to run 24/7. One of the cleaning staff advised us to stay with what we were originally given, so we did. The free breakfasts were pretty awful, other than the cornies and bagels and the location, while close to the subway station, is dodgy and lacks locals restaurants. Staff were moderately helpful, but will avoid this place next time in NY.

I agree with most of the other comments here. Breakfast was a little disappointing with a non-working juice machine, no cold items such as yogurt, and the oddity of a refrigerator being used as bread storage.

My biggest concern, however, was the policy of making a copy of my drivers license. When I asked why, I was not given a reason, only that they keep it on file for 3 years. What could possibly happen 2.5 years from now that would cause the hotel to go back and look for my DL? How is this data secured? Who has access to it?

Perhaps I'm overreacting. I travel on business nearly weekly (for 10 years now), and this is the first time that my DL was scanned/copied.

We stay at the Country Inn & Suites on Crescent Street just a week ago.
Lobby looks & feels dirty. Does not look dusted and furniture is old and dirty.
Bedroom room size small. Poor water pressure in bathroom. Room and bathroom did not have a clean feel. Poor lighting (room and bathroom). No magnifying mirror on wall (ladies love this). Toilet paper holder uncomfortable reach from toilet (have to reach backward). Breakfast eggs and sausage looked gross (rubbery) so we passed. We had a bagel but we did not even toast it as the small breakfast area was so crowded and people were bumping into each other. No tables left to sit at, so we took our bagel to the room. Window in room needs replaced (condensation on windows). Lastly, workout room very small and feels dirty. The positive: this is a good location to catch the subway.

Quite, clean affordable and well situated. Can you ask for more ? Good size rooms some with views over Manhattan (above 3rd floor). Good Wi-fi. Breakfast is ordinary (make your own waffles, eggs, potatoes and sausages, bananas bagels cereals yogurt toasts) with no real orange juice and the breakfast room can get crowded, but it is included in room price and it does the job. Very close to Queensboro plaza subway station (line 7) which goes straight to Times Square. Momento restaurant near subway has good mexican fare (I liked the mole poblano and shrimps) and cheap. Also convenience store situated next door to hotel opened 24 hours a day and a laundromat nearby. Excellent quality/price ratio.

Room Tip: We were on fifth floor facing west.

Had a decent time here during a recent stay. I was using points to pay for the room so can't comment one way or another on the price. Easy to find, close to the subway, and we had an awesome view from our room. Wish our request for two beds instead of one had been met, and it was disappointing that there was only one working vending machine in the whole hotel, and it was only for soda. Didn't really feel like walking to the gas station next door with my seven year old when we wanted a snack. Also, although they did have a nice complimentary breakfast, there was not enough seating and we had to eat in our room. All in all, an okay stay, and would stay again, but would pack my own snacks next time and skip the breakfast in favor of the Dunkin Donut's down the block.

We have given this hotel a 4 for a couple of reasons, the water pressure in the hotel is not as great as others I've stayed in and they didn't organise the breakfast room very well for the mass of German students that were there. The teacher basically used it as an office when people were queuing and I think the hotel could have done more to make sure the other customers weren't stood waiting whilst he gave out SIM cards to 30 kids. However the guy who kept all the food things filled did a great job!
The location could be better but for the price you pay I think it's ok. Close to subway and the garage next door had everything you'd need snack wise.
I wouldn't walk too far at night, we walked to the park by the water but it was a bit dodgy on the way back late on.
The bed was really comfy and I would recommend it to anyone who wanted good value but not to pay more to stay on Manhattan itself.
Great Chinese takeaway down the road where we got two meals and some spring rolls for $12! (Cheng's)
