I've stayed here several times before but the last time, a couple of years ago, I had a negative experience with my room maintenance. So I stayed away for a while, even though this place is one of the best budget options in the whole city. But this current stay was also questionable. After my second night I requested my bed linens be changed. I came back from the city late at night only to find they weren't. Also, there were stains on the carpet which could have easily been cleaned by getting some carpet cleaner at the local dollar store; but I don't think these operators are interested. The free breakfast bar has little worth sampling, and I caught one of the morning desk clerks smoking in the stairway. If you need to park a vehicle during your stay try another hotel. You can hunt for overnight street parking here, but it's not really worth the effort. There are some eateries around but don't expect much of a choice if you come back or check-in late night. There's some neighborhood food down by the 7 train or you can make your way to Steinway or 30th Avenue for some other options. But all of this takes an effort. The best thing you can do here is ask for a west facing room above the second floor and take in the marvelous view of the Manhattan skyline spanning from the new Trade Center tower in the south up through Central Park due west. Remember, this is a budget lodge; don't pay premium prices to stay here!
