“Great View, Convenient to Subway, More Affordable Price, Clean & Comfortable”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2010

After getting over the sticker shock associated with NYC Hotel prices, we narrowed our choice down to the Holiday Inn Manhattan View. We needed to be in the Soho area as well as Carnegie Hall and we needed a more affordable price than we found in Manhattan hotels for 5 nights lodging. We were pleased with this hotel, its staff, its cleanliness, and the convenience to the subway (2 blocks from the front door). There is a small store across the street and a good deli at the foot of the subway station that we enjoyed. The latest we returned to the hotel each evening was 10 pm and we felt safe walking from the hotel to the subway (We were a group of 2 adults and 2 teenagers). If we return to NYC, we would stay here again without hesitation.

Easy access to the subway. Friendly staff. Very Clean and good rooms.

We parked in the street (we had the window broken and a gps stolen). I suggest you try and park at the hotel. Even though we opted against the hotel parking, the staff tried to help us out with calling the police and putting up a temporary window for the car. In my book, that's going above and beyond.

Overall, I think this place is a great deal for NYC. The rooms are relatively large (for NYC standards) and clean. Great city view from the room we were staying in.
Very close to subway, and perfect subway line to drop you off right at Bloomingdale's in Manhattan. We felt safe walking to and from subway at night, but are used to city living.
Make sure you get good driving directions to the hotel from the airport- our Taxi driver had major trouble finding this place as it's a bit out of the way.
One big tip about this place: Make sure you eat in the city BEFORE heading back to your room: There is no where to eat near the hotel after hours! One small deli has scant options if you are fine with cereal and chips.
The beauty shop (Belissimo?) across the street was perfect for a Blow Dry before heading to the city.

This hotel was perfect for a get away to NYC. A few short subway stops to Manhattan - and a very short walk to the Subway for my 3 and 6 year olds. We had free street parking and the room was very quiet for NYC. We were looking over Queens -not Manhattan - but the view was still amazing. Got a great Priceline deal but would have paid full price for the comfort of the beds, newness of the facilities, and the speed to the major attactions.

I have had the pleasure of staying at the HI LIC several times and no longer even think about staying in the city. It's a three minute walk to the N/W train and then 7 minutes to Grand Central. Great hotel, great prices, and a room that is very relaxing.

Only drawback is there is really no food or entertainment right near the hotel. A very small price to pay.

I booked flight & hotel through expedia and got a rate of around $90 per night after all taxes. I got one of "the little rooms" that just fits a queen bed, but it was completely enough room for one person. I often barely heard the N&W trains in the distance, but I slept perfectly fine every night.

Don't be concerned about the $20/day parking, as there are places to park on the street both on the same street and within a few blocks radius. Just read the signs (i.e. avoid the parking meters and the posted street sweeper times). The nearest subway station, 39th Ave (N & W trains), is 2 blocks away. The best dinner (and weekend brunch) restaurant I found was Vesta Trattoria & Wine Bar at 2102 30th Ave (about 1.5 miles north). The best lunch restaurant I found was Chateau Brasil at 3802 29th St (about 0.1 miles north).

The gym had weights, elliptical, treadmill, bike, along with TVs on each machine. The pool was tiny and closed, and I didn't see a jacuzzi. On the same floor as the gym, they had one computer with a printer, and wireless internet was free throughout the hotel (although it was very slow after about 5pm).

If you are in the Priority Rewards program (or sign up for it on the spot), tell them this at check-in and you'll get 20% off coupons for the hotel restaurant.

The best things: Value, very close to subway but still quiet, cleanliness, amenities, quiet overall, safe neighborhood.
The worst things: if you get a small room, don't expect much space beyond the bed, desk, and bathroom. I don't know how big the non-small rooms are.

Just FYI, if you fly into Newark, the trips to/from the airport by car can be 2 hours each way at worst (or 1 hour if you go through Manhattan well before 7 AM or very late at night).
