“Safe, clean, affordable and close to Manhattan”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2013 via mobile

My husband and I stayed 6 nights at the Holiday Inn Manhattan View in Long Island City, Queens. (Abbreviated to LIC to avoid confusion with Long Island.) This is a fairly new hotel in the LIC shoreline "hotel row." There are several chain hotels and boutique hotels sprouting up in the area (with a Mariott and Hilton coming soon.) If you are visiting Manhattan, I recommend staying at a LIC hotel for cost and convenience. LIC is a only a short cab ride from LaGuardia, without paying the cab fare to cross into Manhattan. The 39th street train stop is one block from the hotel and its just 2 stops from Manhattan. We bought MetroCards ($20 each, $2.50 a trip) and went into the city every day, a 15-min ride. Two stops the other direction is the Broadway stop in Astoria, Queens which boasts dozens of excellent restaurants, wine cafes, and coffee shops--Manhattan quality food without Manhattan prices. (Don't miss The Museum of the Moving Image near the famous Kaufman Astoria film studio.)

Our standard hotel room was small but very clean and had a comfy bed and great shower. Wifi is free and there is a decent $10 breakfast buffet in the restaurant. The desk staff is friendly and professional. Elizabeth was particularly helpful. The hotel lived up to everything except its name, "Manhattan View". Our second floor room only had a view of the car park and construction zone. Ask for a higher floor if you want any kind of view, though there may be a higher cost. As it was, we spent very little time in our room and the lack of a scenic view wasn't that big of a deal. We would definitely consider staying here again on a future trip to NYC,

Dear Guest,

Thank you for choosing the Holiday Inn LIC for your recent stay in the New York! Value, Convenience and Location is what LIC is all about. Glad to see you made the distinction between Long Island and Long Island City! I appreciate the time and detail in this review and will certainly let Elizabeth and all the staff know about the kind feedback. Please contact next time you're in NEW YORK CITY as I would like to ensure you have a better view of LIC or Manhattan Skyline. Next time you mist go to the Steinway Piano factory, a must see for a Music Teacher.

Once again, we hope to see you down the road........Travel Safely!

Kindest Regards,

We have stayed at many of the Holiday Inn Express hotels and find them consistent. This one is in that group although the location is a little remote to the area in LonG Island City where our grand children live. The frint desk was welcoming and very efficient. Our room was fine--quiet and clean, although a little tight.

The only disappointment was that there was no complimentary breakfast as we have encountered in all the other HIE's we have stayed at. The buffet breakfast at $10.00 per person was adequate, the coffee good.

Room Tip: Bring a car or you will need to taxis.

Dear John,

Thank you for the opportunity to have you stay with us and thank you for being Holiday Inn Patron. We appreciate your feedback and always want our guests to leave happy. I will let the staff know that they did a wonderful job with preparing you room and for giving you a warm and friendly experience.

Unfortunately, we are a full service Holiday Inn and not Express. Therefore there's going to be some differences and one will be the breakfast. Holiday Inn Express's have breakfast packaged with the room rates. Holiday Inn's do not but so offer a competitive price and also offer options as well for buffet or a la carte. I apologize again and should you come back to our property in the future we can offer a package with breakfast as well which cost a little lower.

Thank you again for your understanding and we do appreciate your business and loyalty to IHG Brands.

Decent Holiday Inn with great views and great staff... but furniture badly in need of replacement, and windows in need of cleaning. Looks like renovations were done, but they chose to keep old furniture which is chipped, scratched, etc. Also, when the wind blew it whistled through the sliding door. Kept me awake for a while... still, loved the location and the view. Would stay again.

Dear Michael,

Thank you for your feedback regarding the your recent stay. I apologize in advance for the condition of the furniture but I assure you our maintenance program is currently in process. I will also investigate the whistle that you heard through the sliding door. This property, when windy has no cover as we are the tallest building in the surrounding area. We appreciate the recommendation and hope to see you back in the future. Thank you for choosing the Holiday Inn L.I. City-Manhattan View.

Warm Regards,

Just arrived home from a brilliant week in New York, which was made so good in part by our stay at this great hotel. On our arrival after a long journey we were greeted by very helpful and lovely staff, who informed us that our special requests had been observed, so we ended up with a room wth two queen beds, on a high floor, which gave us a great view of the Manhattan skyline. Our room also had a fridge, at no extra charge and we were able to use a safe box in reception for no extra charge too, both big bonuses. We were also able to use the printer in the business centre to print out our return boarding passes, once again for no extra charge. Each time we asked for assistance at reception all of the staff, as we met a fair number in a week, were all excellent. The hotel is also very close to the subway, has a number of convenience stores close to it and also a few eaterers are in the close vacinity. In particular we would recommend Napoli restaurant on 35th Street, which we ate at from the second night of our holiday. It serves excellent food at really good prices and we were made very welcome. We would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone and would definitely return to it ourselves. Well done everyone at the hotel!

I have just returned home to Ireland after my Husband and I spent five days in New York. We stayed in The Holiday Inn, Manhattan View,Long Island City, New York. We arrived very late at night due to flight delays, and were made feel very welcome by the duty manager Louis in spite of the late hour .Throughout our trip the hotel became our home from home, due to the attention given to us by the staff, especially, Elizabeth, Rambo, Melissa and the Brazilian lady in the bar whose name escapes me at present. We would recommend trying the Brazilian restaurant at least one evening of your trip. The hotel is situated only one hundered metres from the Subway station , which is only two stops from mid town Manhattan. Just one word of caution, I thought all local calls were free but on checking out found that just applies to calls made to the immediate area and had to pay for calls which I made to mid town Manhattan . This cost approx five dollars for a call to a destination which is only two subway stops away. Otherwise , we had great time at the hotel, and hope to revisit. Well done all. Mary t Quirke-Carroll.

Dear Mary,

Whilst another Paddy's day in NYC, you survived the grand events and graciously gave us your valuable time to give us your kind feedback! We're all delighted to have had the opportunity to have you as our guest and even more elated to know the Associates looked after you. As you mentioned, the real value is the proximity to Manhattan and ease of accessibility to the train stop from the hotel.

Glad to hear you experienced the Restaurant and found the Staff most inviting. I will research your phone calls because Local Calls are complimentary? I will get back to you shortly. Overall, if you find yourself over the pond for any reason looking down the road, we would certainly have a place here waiting for you! Thank you again for your time and I will be sure to send your regards to the Staff.

Most Sincerely,

I was very impressed with how easy the hotel was to get to. The subway stop is 1.5 blocks away so getting around the city is easy. Parking at the hotel is tricky. It looks like they are building a new tower where the parking lot was. There are two other lots near the hotel that offer parking for $9 per day.

The hotel room was very clean and comfortable. I would stay again at this hotel.
