“A Budget Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2010

I booked the jacuzzi room at the Verve after reading all the rave reviews. I had really high expectations since it was rated as the No 1 hotel in Queens. Much to my disappointment, upon arrival the area really is desolate. There is nothing nearby and it is about a 5-7 minute walk from the nearest metro station along a less than desirable rooad full of rubbish and busy traffic.

The room itself was fine apart from the noise of the train going past every few minutes. It was a fairly big room with a view of the building site and train line outside.

Breakfast was another let down with processed sausage cakes, processed peeled hard boiled eggs and processed scrambled eggs being the only hot food on offer served on polystyrene plates. The free 24/7 coffee is from a vending machine. Not quite as good "Starbucks" as other users have posted before - this is instant coffee.

After staying here and basing my stay on the amazing reviews below, I'd also have to question the validity of them as many of the people who have 1 contribution seem to have completely over exxagerated the hotel.

Whilst the Verve hotel is cheap, it really is a 2* hotel and everything about it reflects this. If you are on a shoe strong budget then stay here as you won't find cheaper in Manhattan but if you are looking for some classy romance then I would pay a little extra and look elsewhere.

If you want a great Hotel, walking distance to a variety of great resturants, easy access to subway, stay here. If you want a comfortable room, excellant bed and a staff that goes above and beyond stay here....I will only stay here in the future, I really don't think it get's better than this...Other Hotels need to send their staff here for training...Don't just take my word for this, try staying here...You will go back..

This is our second time at this hotel and we wont stay any place else !!! The last time we were here it was just the two of us and we rented the king jacuzzi suite,it was actually very large and in addition to being very clean and well decorated, there was a full bathroom with shower that was also quite large. This time around we came with friends,we rented the jacuzzi suite again and they rented a regular king suite. There room was also just as nice as ours. The staff at this hotel will do everything that they can to assist you with anything that you need while you are here, including directions if like us you get lost very easy....the subway station is a couple of blocks away and they offer parking under the hotel as well as on the street. The first time we were here we parked on the street for two days and our car was fine....this time we choose to use the underground parking as the street parking was pretty filled and its just as good.Breakfast was really nice, they offered a variety of cereals as well as eggs, sausage, juices, breads and fruit. They also have free coffee, tea, hot chocolate, cappachino and lattes 24 hours a day !!!!!! Im not a coffee drinker but the hot chocolate is better then you would get in dunkin doughnuts or starbucks ....Were actually pretty hard people to please and have stayed at many hotels, this one by far is the best.

We chose this hotel for a four night theater trip stay. This is an outstanding hotel with clean, new, spacious rooms and a very helpful staff. It's in Queens, but it's a very easy subway ride to 49th street in the middle of the theater district. We always felt safe walking the three blocks to the 39th street station.

All for an $89 rate with a King Bed, free breakfast, free internet and free business center printing (great for online check-in). We've spent $300 a night for a comparable room in Manhattan.

We've been frequent visitors to NYC and previously split time between Manhattan and other Queens Hotels. This was our first visit to the Verve and we highly recommend this hotel.

We stayed at The Verve for 6 nights in mid Dec 2009 and had a fantastic time. Whilst the hotel isn't located on Manhattan Island, there are two subway stops very close by so you can be in midtown Manhattan within 10-15 minutes. Chances are you will be so busy with sight seeing that you will leave the hotel first thing in the morning and won't return until late so with this in mind the location really isn't an issue at all! Our room was very spacious and clean, the bathroom was great and the bed was super comfortable!

However where The Verve really stood out was the staff. All the staff were very friendly, especially Tom who runs breakfast (amongst other things). Tom always went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable and had lots of good advice for us. And if you need tickets to the Knicks (or anything else for that matter), Tom is definitely your man!

We would absolutely recommend this hotel to anyone looking to see the sights of New York. In retrospect we were glad we didn't stay on Manhattan Island as to get a room and service like the Verve would have cost a lot more!

It's been 6 months since my stay at the Verve, but it popped up into my life again as my dad is staying there this weekend for a visit. My then fiance and I booked a block of rooms there for our wedding last summer. We live in and got married in Astoria/Long Island City and wanted a hotel both close to our wedding location and close to Manhattan. We visited the hotel and it was exactly what we were looking for. The rooms are spacious for the city (in this price range especially), very clean, and well-kept. Breakfast was included. The beds were comfortable. And our out of town guests had a place to park. The staff was friendly, making the planning easy. And the bridal suite we used for two nights was amazing--complete with jacuzzi!
The only qualm we had was that the actual area it's in is rather desolate. This was preferable to us, as we prefer to stay away from city bustle and noise and travel to the fun when desired (two subway stops/10 minutes to midtown Manhattan). We had guests who chose not to stay here to be around more stuff, but the guests that stayed here were very comfortable! All thumbs up!
